...TOMORROW NEVER COMES?
It is necessary I reconcile my past with my present
definitely because I know the efficacy of the past
which I have learned in pages of human history
and so my mind was actually oscillating between
my past and present when suddenly my mind was
completely engulfed in a pool of thought which
made me keep asking myself for several minutes,
tomorrow never comes?
Everything I learned in primary school days may
be gone,but there is this saying by my teacher
"we are the leaders of tomorrow" and it keeps
ringing a bell in my ear even as my mind was still
wallowing in tomorrow never comes?. Considering
my age, you wouldn't blame me or even if you do,
you may be quick to pardon me if I say the first
time I heard it being a little child, I taught I was
probably going to become the governor or even if
by chance, president the following day and I
couldn't hide the euphoric mood when I got
home.
You wouldn't expect me to remain a child forever,
so I grew in size, age and of course my intelligence
qoutient grew in a geometric progression and I
understood what they meant by that. however, I
wish my primary school teacher had explained to
me earlier!
My mind was still in this pool of thoughts so I
couldn't help asking again, tomorrow never
comes? What actually prompted this is the
political shambles my dear country is in. We
became British independent on the 1st of october
1960 and that joy of course propelled songs
accompanied by dances from both old and young,
independence indeed!. Our past heroes who
fought gloriously for this feat envisaged a kind of
political environment whereby the adult and youth
citizen of the country will work for the betterment
and by large, development of our fatherland.
"Your future, O Nigeria lies slain
on your heights. How the youth are being
relegated. Tell it not across the
borders of Nigeria, lest our enemies
rejoice over our inert political system".
In actual point of fact, the people who had been
steering the wheel of political leadership since the
country's independence are still the one steering
and would do anything to continue steering. A lot
of children who their teacher might have told
them they were the leader of tomorrow as at the
time nigeria gained independence must have had
grown up sons and daughters and some even
grandsons and daughters and you still telling me
they are the leaders of tomorrow? What age will
they actually become and at what age will we
takeover and steer appropriately?, tomorrow never
comes?
