13. The Venezuelan Poodle Moth: The Venezuelan Poodle Moth was only discovered in 2009. They are found in Venezuela and not much is known about these fuzzy, dog-like moths just yet. 14. The Giant Isopod: This is one the largest species of the existing isopods. It’s so big because some creatures that live on the bottom of the ocean can experience “deep sea gigantism.” This is where the crustacean will grow much larger than its shallow sea dwelling counterparts. They look prehistoric because, honestly, they are. Isopods have been around for a long, long time. 15. The Saiga Antelope: The Saiga Antelope is known for its extremely unusual, over-sized, flexible nose structure. They are critically endangered and it is already completely extinct in China and southwestern Mongolia. 16. The Bush Viper: The Bush Viper lives in the trees of the tropical forests in Africa and it does most of its hunting at night. This snake may look fierce, but it’s actually one of the smallest species of snake, with a maximum length of only 78cm.

9. The Lowland Streaked Tenrec: The Lowland Streaked Tenrec is cute, but you have to watch out for this creature found in Madagascar, Africa. It’s covered in tiny little barbs and it is reportedly the only mammal known to use stridulation for generating sound. Usually, only insects and snakes make that kind of noise. 10. The Hummingbird Hawk-Moth: This little creature seems to be a hybrid of a hummingbird, a hawk and a moth (as the name implies) but it's actually just a funny little insect that feeds on flowers. 11. The Blue Dragon: This is the Glaucus Atlanticus, a crazy species of blue sea slug. The Blue Dragon is able to float on the water's surface because of a gas-filled sac in its stomach. This species can be found in the warm ocean waters, so be careful not to step on these beauties. 12. The Peacock Mantis Shrimp: The mantis shrimp is also known as “sea locusts“, “prawn killers” and “thumb splitters”. Their front claws can deliver a punch that is as powerful as a gunshot. The mantis shrimp can’t be kept in normal aquariums, as they punch through other sea life and even the glass.

5. The Narwhal: This is a toothed whale found in the Arctic. It’s one of the most recognizable whales on earth because of its enormous horn - it’s like the unicorn of the ocean. 6. The Red-Lipped Batfish: This frightening-looking fish is found near the Galapagos Islands, but it doesn’t swim. If can be found on the BOTTOM of the ocean, walking on its unusual fins. Don’t ask. 7. The Blind Snake: This unusual snake found in the Amazon has no eyes and its name is Atretochoana Eiselti. It is presumed to be an aquatic, almost eel-like animal due to its fleshy dorsal fin on the body, but most people that know of it just call it a blind snake. 8. The Umbonia Spinosa: Scientists are baffled by this unusual creature, but believe it to be closely related to cicadas. The Umbonia Spinosa use their beaks to pierce plant stems to feed upon their sap. It’s hard to tell what you’re looking at with the spinosa, but it’s easy to tell it’s beautiful.

1. The Shoebill: This species is also referred to using the names Whalehead or Shoe-billed Stork. The bird has a large shoe-shaped bill, hence its unusual name. The Shoebill lives in tropical east Africa in large swamps from Sudan to Zambia, and it is also known for its unique, blue feathers. These birds are quite large, and they can range in height from 110cm - 152cm. 2. Okapi: The Okapi species is closely related to the giraffe family, not the zebra or even a horse. The Okapi is native to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa. 3. The Pacu Fish: The terrifying Pacu Fish, a species native to South America, seem to have a full set of almost humanlike teeth. They are closely related to the piranha and are nicknamed the “ball cutter.” 4. The Panda Ant: Despite the panda ant’s name, this is actually a species of wasp. They are found in Chile, the wingless females resemble large, hairy ants. Even though these little bugs are cute, you may want to stay away, as they have a pretty bad sting.

Lagos State government has urged security personnel to comply with the State Traffic Law and desist from plying Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor along the Ikorodu Road axis. This is as it condemned the attitude of some personnel of the Nigerian Military, who it said threw caution and decency into the wind when they descended heavily on a LASTMA official Peter Owolabi, for daring to take the photographs of their vehicle which violated the BRT corridor at Obanikoro bus stop on Ikorodu road. The military officers were driving a black Honda Accord car with number registration CP 839 YAB. General Manager of the State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Bashir Braimah, made this known, while speaking against the backdrop of a joint enforcement carried out on Monday against BRT violation in collaboration of with the Military Police and the Nigeria Police. “The attack was a clear case of what LASTMA personnel usually go through in the hands of some uniform personnel at a time that the state government is making effort to restore orderliness on state roads. “It has become a habit for some of the military personnel driving commercial buses in uniform to flout the state traffic law and collaborate or encourage commercial drivers to violate Traffic Law on Lagos roads,” Braimah said. http://tribuneonlineng.com/node/19600 |

Students of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, EKSU, have expressed excitement over yesterday’s restoration of electricity supply to Iworoko-Ekiti, where a large percentage of them reside. They sang the praises of the governor, who ensured the restoration of power supply to the community. The town had been without power supply for nine months due to non-payment of electricity bills to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, by residents. The restoration of power supply was sequel to a meeting the governor held with the student leaders last Wednesday, where he promised to resolve the problems within one week. EKSU Students Union Government, SUG, President, Oladimeji Bayo, General Secretary, Okunoye Ayobami and Publicity Secretary, Daniel Stephen, in a statement described the governor as students’ friend, promise keeper and a passionate father. Also, Deputy Senate President of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Olusegun Famuyibo, praised the restoration. He said: “It is imperative to note that the Ekiti Students Stakeholders Forum had during an advocacy visit to the governor appealed to him to help restore electricity to the students’ area, which has been a problem for about nine months.”

Five of the suspected abductors of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, have been arrested. Falae was kidnapped on his farm, three weeks ago, at Ilado Village in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The elder statesman was released four days later. Family sources confirmed that three of the hoodlums were arrested in Niger State last Sunday; two others were picked up at the weekend. It was gathered that the suspects are in the custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the State Police Command, Akure, the state capital. Policemen are still on the trail of the other fleeing suspects. A source said: “Five of them were arrested, three in Niger State on Sunday. Two others were arrested somewhere I cannot say for now but the suspects are in SARS custody. “The police are still searching for the other seven suspects and I am sure they too will be arrested very soon.” Police spokesman Femi Joseph said the kidnap of the former Minister of Finance was being handled by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase. He said: “I don’t know anything about the issue again; it is the IG who has taken over the issue because it is a national issue. “He is likely to brief the press about the development today.” http://thenationonlineng.net/police-arrest-falaes-suspected-abductors/? The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, on Sunday confirmed that 145 Nigerians were killed in the September 24 stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia. Although Saudi authorities confirmed more than 769 pilgrims from across the world dead, the death toll is believed to be over 1,000 with Iran having the higher death casualty of over 400 people. About 1,000 people were also injured during the stampede on one of the roads leading to the Jamarat complex (stone throwing site) in Mina. Briefing journalists in Mecca in an update, NAHCON’s commissioner in charge of Planning, Research, Information and Library Services, Saleh Okenwa, said that seven of the 42 injured pilgrims were still on admission at various hospitals in Saudi Arabia. He, however, said that the number of pilgrims earlier declared missing had reduced from 214 to165 following the discovery of additional bodies of some Nigerians killed in the stampede. On the transportation of pilgrims back to Nigeria, NAHCON’s Commissioner in charge of Operation, Saleh Modibbo, said that more than 60 per cent of the pilgrims had been transported back to the country. Specifically, he said that 40,850 of the 76,000 Nigerians, who performed the pilgrimage had been transported back to the country. Among those transported back to Nigeria are pilgrims from Kwara, Gombe and Nassarawa states. Mr. Modibbo said that the various committees set up by NAHCON helped in processing the pilgrims’ documents and luggage. The Chairman of the commission, Abdullahi Mukhtar, said while fielding questions from journalists that the Nigerian mission in Saudi Arabia would continue to monitor the seven injured pilgrims still on admission at various Saudi hospitals even after the Hajj operation. “We have consistently been monitoring them; the Nigerian mission in Saudi Arabia will continue to monitor them after the hajj operation until they are discharged,” he said. Mr. Mukhtar said that bodies of the deceased had been buried according to Islamic rights. He said it was not true that the deceased were buried en masse as speculated in a section of the Nigerian society. The chairman said that the Saudi authorities took finger prints of the deceased and that DNA tests would be conducted on mutilated bodies to ascertain whether those declared missing were dead or alive. “Blood samples of the deceased pilgrims already in Saudi Arabia were taken while that of those who do not have immediate members of their families here will be taken in Nigeria and transported to Mecca for the test,” he stated. On victims of the crane crash, he said that the Nigerian mission had details on the affected persons, adding, “the mission is pursuing their cases until compensation is paid.” www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/191381-hajj-stampede-nigerias-death-toll-rises-to-145.html Cc @lalasticlala @Ishilove
