Chief Willie Obiano, Governor of Anambra State,said that security agencies had a lead that could make possible the arrest of the gunmen that killed 13 people at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Amankwa, Ozubulu in the state.
Obiano insisted that the target of the shooting was a business partner of the alleged killer of the worshippers, but said that while the target was not found, his father was killed during the attack.

The governor spoke with journalists in Abuja on Friday at the national headquarters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, where he submitted his governorship nomination form.

He said, “We are taking precautions, we have a lead and the police have made some arrests and we are very confident that we will resolve the matter very soon.”
He said that the state government was bankrolling both the cost of treating the injured and the burial of dead victims of the attack.

The governor said that despite the killings, his state remains the safest state in the country.



“We can’t use that singular incident to judge the state. We have stopped kidnapping, assassinations and all that in the state. So, whichever way you look at it, we remain a safe state,” he said.
On why he is gunning for a second term as governor, Obiano said that his target was that by the time he had done eight years in office, he would have touched the life of everyone in the state.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday screened candidates for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.
The screening process which began few minutes at 10: 30 AM at the party national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja was attended by six of the seven aspirants including Prince John Okechukwu Emeka, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Honourable Linda Ikpeazu, Oseloka Obaze Senator Stella Oduah and Dr. Ifeanyi Uba.
Adamu Maina Waziri ,the Chairman of the screening committee and former Minister of Police Affairs, while welcoming the aspirants urged them not to forget that the entire PDP family has everything to lose if Anambra is lost to a rival political party on November 18. “Each one of us has everything to lose if we lose Anambra State,” he said in his opening remarks, while promising that the screening committee would do its job fairly and justly. He also added that in line with the PDP constitution, the N6 million fee for the collection of nomination and expression of interest form for women aspirants was waived as a way of encouraging the female folk to take active interest in partisan politics. Shortly before the commencement of the exercise, Waziri told newsmen that the screening committee had received a petition against one of the aspirants, but failed to reveal the identity. Meanwhile, Ubah who was the last to be screened was whisked away by a retinue of aides, after spending hours with the screening committee. As at the time of filing this report, it could not be established if he scaled the screening or not.

Ozubulu Catholic Church has released the names of victims of the attack that took place at the St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu, Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State, last Sunday.13 people have so far died from the attack while several others sustained injuries. A statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Diocesan Bishop of Nnewi, Most Rev. Hilary Paul Odili Okeke, gives the names of the 13 dead victims as:
