The Imo State Police Command has recovered the remains of a 78-year-old woman, Mrs. Lucy Osigweh, who was declared missing in 2003. Making the revelation, yesterday, state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, disclosed that the woman’s lifeless body was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine located in her son’s private room. Katsina said: “The missing woman’s lifeless body was found in a village called Ezuru Umuagwu, Ejemekwuru, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.” According to him, “the corpse of the 78-year- old Mrs. Osigweh, earlier declared missing in 2003, was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine of a private room in a circumstance depicting ritual practice. “The embalmed body, which was kept in that condition for about 10 years, was believed to have been placed in the warehouse by her son, Chief Chimezie Osigweh, a 64-year-old retired school principal.” The Imo police boss said there was every reason to believe that the late woman’s son is a member of a sect, adding: “Preliminary assessment of the scene of crime revealed that the late woman must have been murdered by her son for ritual purpose.” Katsina also said members of the sect used to hold secret nocturnal meetings in the place to enhance their occultic powers. “The principal suspect, Chief Chimezie Osigweh, who is the son of the woman, has been arrested and is making useful statement to the police,” the CP said. Although Katsina did not say how the police got wind of the crime, feelers from the late woman’s maiden home, Amakohia, Awa, Oguta local council area, showed that. They made the startling discovery. A villager, who spoke on grounds of anonymity, said that angered by the unresolved and inexplicable disappearance of their relation from her marital home, some villagers decided to double check earlier stories bandied by Osigweh. According to a villager, “on getting to Ejemekwuru, our people demanded to know why their relations had remained missing for 10 years. Her son told our villagers that his mother was mad at a point and ran away to unknown place. “Apparently not satisfied with the response, as well as the nonchalant attitude allegedly exhibited by her son, the villagers went beserk, destroying things in sight and ended up spotting the large cupboard containing the remains of their loved one. “With this startling discovery, the villagers quickly lodged a complaint with the police who subsequently swung into action.” Source http://www.informationng.com/2013/05/police-uncover-78-year-old-womans-corpse-in-sons-shrine-cupboard.html

The survival of about ten policemen in Tuesday’s onslaught from the Ombatse militia group in Nasarawa State has been attributed to luck by one of the police officers who spoke on behalf of the other survivors. Narrating their escape, the officer – (names withheld), said it took the grace of God as they were outnumbered and overpowered by the militiamen. He further disclosed that the militiamen must have had prior knowledge of their coming as they were way-laid on the narrow road leading to the village, Alakyo, where they were supposed to effect the arrest of their leader and recover arms said to be in his possession. He said, “The road is narrow and they allowed us into their midst before opening fire on us at close range. Efforts to return fire and scare them into hiding ware futile as bullets were not penetrating them”, he said. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the police officer described the militiamen as dressed in black shirts and caps and kept approaching amidst heavy gunfire, which forced their Hilux van, the last van on the convoy, to beat a retreat. “Due to the nature of the road and ensuing gun duel, our men could not turn back and 10 of us in our van were able to manoeuvre our way out but not without suffering bullet wounds,” he said. The officer who is recuperating, added that the driver of their van sustained gunshot wound to the leg but as fate would have it, one of them with him in the front seat could drive and immediately took control of the van. According to his testimony, many of the officers who escaped into nearby bushes were largely outnumbered by the militiamen who were familiar with the terrain and overpowered them. “As soon as they killed an officer, his rifle was taken off him.” Source http://www.informationng.com/2013/05/nasarawa-bloodbath-chilling-story-of-narrow-escape-by-survivors

Rescue workers were stunned on Friday afternoon when a female garment worker was rescued alive from the rubble 17 days after the Rana Plaza building collapsed outside Dhaka, Bangladesh. Reshma Begum, who identified herself as a seamstress who worked on the 3rd floor of Rana Plaza, had been breathing through a pipe from inside the wreckage, soldiers conducting the rescue operation said. Abdur Razzaq, an army sergeant who helped to rescue Begum, said she had been hitting the concrete with the pipe and he had heard the sound after bulldozers had lifted loose rubble covering the spot. “I heard the sound and rushed towards the spot. I knelt down and heard a faint voice. ‘Sir, please help me,’ she cried,” he said. Begum told rescuers she was unhurt and had survived by scavenging for biscuits in the rucksacks of dead colleagues. Begum’s body was covered in dust and her hair was completely white. A woman wailing near the wreckage said Reshma was her niece. “We’d only expected to see her body,” she cried. As Begum was lifted from the rubble, crowds ringing the site broke into cheers of “God is great!” Rescue workers were seen wiping away tears. Army officers co-ordinating the rescue expressed astonishment at finding a survivor in the rubble at a time when the operation was winding down. “It is incredible that someone could have survived in the wreckage 408 hours after the building came down,” Lieutenant Shah Jamal said. “Her will to live is amazing. We’ve given her oxygen and she has been rushed to hospital.” Army officials said the death toll had reached 1,050 on Friday afternoon. According to my source, the total number of armed men that went on that arrest were a hundred and one(don't know how true).now the witch doctor has dealt with them. So sad!!! May God console their families. So 2 policemen should go nd arrest an "arms dealer". |

The Ogun State Police Command has debunked rumour that headless bodies of three suspected female students were dumped in an area in Ijebu Ode on Monday. A message circulated via BlackBerry about the incident caused confusion in the town. It reads, “Three headless bodies suspected to be that of females were thrown off a Range Rover Sport Jeep at Ijebu Ode-Ibadan Road just now. “One is fair in complexion with University of Lagos identity card (Yetunde Ajao) inside her bag. The second is an Olabisi Onabanjo University student, Oyindamola Esan, also fair in complexion and tall. “The last one is short, plump and dark with no identity. Please kindly notify their families and friends if you know them before the bodies are run over by vehicles.” But the spokesperson for the state police command, Muyiwa Adejobi, told our correspondent that the rumours were mischievous and simply untrue. “When I heard about it, I alerted our men who went there but saw nothing and got no report of such thing in the area,” Adejobi said. It was also learnt that many residents of the town, who read the broadcast, abandoned their activities and went to Ijebu Ode-Ibadan Road in search of the corpses. One of them, Tolu Olaleye, said, “We have been here for the past three hours searching all the bushes, but we are yet to see anything. People have turned this road to tourist centre.” A visit to UNILAG by PUNCH Metro showed that there was no student in its database with the name of Yetunde Ajao. A source said school officials had cross referenced the institution’s data with the name without success. The source said, “We also received the message about the headless bodies of three girls, one of which was believed to be a student of UNILAG. We checked all our digital records but the name Yetunde Ajao did not come up.” Source http://ngscholars.com/2013/03/police-debunk-headless-bodies-broadcast |

A woman allegedly had a heart attack after she was told her baby was strangled to death by the thief who stole her car. Zhou Xijun, 48, stole the car in the north- eastern Jilin province of Chinese after the baby’s parents had left the child alone for 10 minutes with the car doors unlocked and the engine running. According to reports, the father had only just run into the shop where he worked to turn the heat up so the room could get warm before he brought his two-month-old baby inside but in a statement, Zhou said he had “discovered a baby in the back seat of the stolen car, stopped at the side of a road before strangling the baby to death and burying it in the snow”. He handed himself in a day later and confessed, according to state-run media. Jilin police said the body of the baby has been recovered and the child’s mother was being treated in hospital. Sky News reports: The case caused a storm in China, generating far more attention than the annual meeting of China’s parliament which opened on Tuesday. Internet users expressed their disgust at the crime and many called for Zhou to be put to death. “Killing him once would not be enough,” one user of Sina Weibo, a website similar to Twitter, wrote. Another added: “I would never have imagined that what people most feared would actually happen … The killer should be severely punished.” However others entered into debates about negligent parents, calling for harsher punishments for those who fail to protect their children. A candlelit vigil for the baby was held in Changchun on Tuesday evening. Lights were dimmed at 10.10pm and a moment of silence was observed. The latest UN figures on the murder rate in China puts it at one per 100,000 people, among the lowest in the world Source http://www.ynaija.com/horrible-man-steals-car-with-baby-strangles-it-to-death-and-buries-it-in-snow-pictured/
