The Federal Road Safety Corps has engaged Nigeria's new ministry of livestock development on safe animal transportation. In what appears to be “war against illicit products”, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided an illegal herbal medicine factory in Mararaba, a suburb of Abuja, Nigeria's capital city. In a post shared on its official Facebook page, the agency says its witnessed the production of hazardous unregistered concoction. Mixtures, which are capable of causing severe health complications such as liver cirrhosis and kidney failure. The operation, NAFDAC say follows credible intelligence from concern Nigerians. And was led by its Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Mr. Tamanuwa Andrew. According to NAFDAC, the herbalist operating the factory was arrested and his factory, which is located in Amina Plaza sealed. He admitted to being in business for six months. He however, claimed his products, which were allegedly sourced from Osun are effective and wholesome. He also admitted to purchase products with fake NAFDAC number from Onitsha. He however, denied producing items with the fake numbers. NAFDAC has vowed to prosecute the herbalist once its completes of its investigation. In a related development, the enforcement team has also raided Wuse Market in Abuja, seizing counterfeit and substandard drugs valued at over 20 million Naira. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided counterfeit wine stores in Nasarawa State. The agency bursted stores in Mararaba, New Nyanya and Masaka seizing aldulterated wines and spirits worth ₦41.2 million. In a post shared on its official Facebook page, NAFDAC says it will trial the importers and manufacturers of the products. They urged consumers to to remain vigilant and report suspicious products. The Nigerian Senate has said the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government is work on the 2025 budget. Responding to the questions from parliamentary Journalists on when the Senate is expected to receive the 2025 budget from the executive, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa said, they are working on it. Read also: Senate reviews Tinubu economic reforms He said the minister of finance, budget and national planning are both collaborating critical stakeholders on the budget. “The executive should answer that but as chairman of finance I know they are doing their job – they are working. The Minister of finance just left here, the minister of national planning, they have been working in collaboration with National Executive Council and National Economic Council as well.” He mentioned the National Executive Council and National Economic Council as some the stakeholders being consulted.
