Yes the gas is perfect for it, as its circulating it detect any small leakage and seals it up.

is it used to detect leaks, stop leaks or both? am having issues with leaking ac gas (two day leak after refill ) , have been tracing it with two unsuccessful attempts by two unreliable ac guys , bought another compressor and condenser but no success

It can serve as a leak detector as well cos it has a red color. Also its a sealant for minor leakages. See YouTube for videos. As for urs its a major leak
