cconcept: @dinlin,can you tell us more about accommodation in the different cities-how easy to get, rent and bills etc?Accomodation is a national political issue in the country..its not easy to get accommodation as demand is more than supply..many kiwis r returning frm Australia cos of austerity measures there..so ther is a pressure on the housing...visit trademe.co.nz to see the diff. cities...a 1 bedroom in aukland central is abt 250 a wk...3 bed room in suburbs is btw 320 to 450 a wk..u need to pay bond abt 3 to 4 wks in advanc bfor u get the house...u get the bond back wen u move elsewher provided the house is well lookd after..student accmodatn flatmatin is cheapest..u guys share the rent cost..or best if u got a relative here.. |
cconcept: the fees are quite fair. Some do stay permanently and those that leave become good alumni of the university. universities sell themselves on the world stage by the quality of their Alumni especially the PH.D research fellows..Auck uni is on the top 100 in the world. most Nz unis are in the top 500. |
wahabcoal: Why do ALL of their Universities or Colleges make compulsory first year FULL Tuition payment before Confirmation of enrollent is given?@wahabcoal, Australia and NZ are good neighbours with similar systems but their laws are not the same...nz charge fees up front, autralia charge half fees up front, most US skools wudnt charge u up front, finland doesnt even have fees...so different law 4 diff folks |
@cconcept, Doctorate degree students pay domestic tuition of abt 6k or thereabout plus u can bring ur wife if you have one..she may get a work visa under ur student visa(visit NZ immigration)...the domestic tuition scheme is to market NZ skools and increase its value in the world of research..also to attract the best brains frm all over the world..most doctorates complete their studies compared to the number of dropouts frm bachelors or lesser programs.. |
When you live in Rome you live like a Roman...mingle with d different cultures..visit a Maori Marae..as a foreign student ur mates wud usually be koreans, chinese, indians, japanese, british among others...they all got accents in class so not t worry..ur 9ja accent wud only sell u out when u meet kiwis but ul get ova it and blend wit time..u hear alot of phrases like..mate, no worries, sweet as, crack a woody etc..keep to weather charts cos d weather changes weneva..cook ur own food ul sav alot..heaps of fast food here & one can b temptd to eat out often..y u fink dey got obesity problem..u can get a student bus pass to get on buses for cheap..bring enough money cos it might take awhile to find a parttime job dat suits ur course timetable..ur money flys when u live near d city. even cost of living in many American cities are cheaper than here from rent to food. food is cheaper in the UK than here as well. study hard, play hard, focus, careful wit ladies(NZ women are researchd to be promiscus) and stay safe |
@oknee, u will find people to b generally acceptin and very friendly but not to say some dont have som hidden resentment towrds black 9ja. most jobs are not advertised so best to network wit mates, friends, church, teachers and wuteva 1 cud fink of..social life is great depending on what u lyk...drinkin, partying, niteclub, religion, camping, lots of barbecue picnics and festivals cos its very multicultural...but cud get very borin very quick..tv chanels r borin..people hav fun togeda but tend to be timid & slow t mak long term profitable friendship. we got th 9ja assosiatn that have meetings, picnics, & independence..ther som 9ja stores sellin importd food stuffs notably in South auckland.buy cheapchat callin card to dial 9ja..40mins for $5 frm landline..health & enginerin are stable and got good wages but given to citizens and PR b4 odas.student flatmatin is cheaper in rent...rugby is the main sport.."All blacks" is the rugby national team. Pirate of the carribean was shot in here. |
@cconcept...what exactly would you wana know? Politics, sports, education, social life or economy..specify pls.. |
@cconcept, while i havnt been there in christchurch, i have heard about the city from friends and the media..d ground always shake without warning..the city is still under rebuild for abt 3 years now, floods, I consider Aukland cold in winter but chch is very cold..heard many white supremacist click are there..the pros of chch is unemployment is lowest in NZ at 3.3 %..but i fink its because alot of people moved away for cos of the earthquake destroyin their properties.heard d skools there got the lowest fees to help bring more students to the city.. |
OAU is not over-hyped. It just stands out as a very great uni compared to other naija institution...infact outside 9ja it doesnt carry much weight..have u seen webometric university rankings at all ? read how they also came about their rankings. |
What are rankings of these universities in the world or least in Africa? stop celebrating mediocrity. |
@cconcept, yeah faceless section of NZ immigration(even a case officer doent know much if u ask why your application is taking forever to decide, cos they put u on hold until they establish ur identity and history) ...heard they prevent terrorists from getting through the borders...they supposedly got an uncle of saddam tryna seek asylum..I bet 9ja is on the list as well..They work with international organisation for migration, Nigerian branch. |
Yeah u r right. lucky if one gets a date with IPG...oh boy! they can take their time running worldwide checks on u..they liase wit IOM for 9ja checks..ve heard checks taking up to 2 years..lol |
@moneybag100....5k will not get u any skool..plus u cant just come study courses that aint needed if u intend to stay...they are aware these traditional courses like biz admin, accounting, law, philosophy etc are in naija unis, ghanian and even souty unis..at most UK..so the question is "Why would he wana go 38hrs to achieve this 1 year course? "...u need to enrol in courses that are seriously needed here before u can even b considerd..some naija guys hav given us a bad name dealing drugs, scams and false documents..fake passport, qualifications and birth cert. scams..some arrange marriages wit citizens to get a stay leave her and later tries to bring naija wife and up to 10 children..cos govt pays weekly allowanc for each dependant child...football player wiring drug millions to naija...confrence guys that woundnt go back after visa runs out, pali fraud when dey could obtain a real naija passport...govt here is aware of Boko threats as well...so one has got to prove to be exceptional..& a few of us r legit |
@cconcept, NZ is family friendly, multicultural with maoris(natives), the white majority, asians, pacific islanders and others..most africans are refugees..people party alot here and hav a drinkin problem...an average naija student shuld pass easily as they do more practical hands on training than theory(naija vice versa)...big hiphop culture.lots of jobs dependin on skills, closest neighbour is 3hrs flight away to sydney..stay in cities for job access.. auckland is the largest city n u need a car to get arnd and its right hand drive..sub tropical climate...its winter now in july...hamilton city is good..wellington is windy but nice, avoid christchurch. dunedin is bitter cold but great uni Otago. queenstown if u r into skiing and climbing stuff, Nelson if u love wines..Auckld uni, AUT uni, massey uni, Otago uni, waikato uni..are world recognised..tho they are better in specific courses...eg..otago boast best health programs in Nz...no snakes or wild animals.. u gotta work hard to pay bills... |
@JustCare, a sayin goes like this "the numbers after 7 is more than just 8". what I mean here is that u got to build on the little info that you get on here. do ur own further finding and google search. see what more you can discover. My few ABC here might not be adequate to spark ur dreams in motion...tuition is abt 16 to 21 depending on institution you choose...how much in ur bank statement? Am sure you are not naive or new to making overseas travel application. Hence, a typical statement that u will submit if u were gona study in the Uk or Us would do i guess. dont use bogus or fake papers...10 years ban mate..and they do confirm every bit of info u suppy to the T. they also run an advance passanger screening on u..so if uve applied to UK,US,Canada,australia..better be truthful as they share info on a central system to protect their borders...naija application is considered a high rish..so like I said previously..visit NZ immigration and double check d info there...its worth it |
@cconcept, it depends. when I got here diploma in early chilhood studies was a years course that could lead to residence. clinary certificate for chefs was on the list. diploma in hospitality, diploma in applid sciences(anaethetic technician) b.sc occupational therapy, masters in clinical psycology. medical laboratory degree, mbbs for docs and ph.ds in any field as univ. lecturers and so on..are on the shortage list....so it varies widely. 20 Hrs a wk may only help with accomodation. visit NZ immigration for more info. |
@justcare. I mean hustling illegally. fees are btw 16 to 23k depending on skool. skools can be a polytec, institute, college and degree awarding university. 20 hrs a wk work on a valid student visa. dont think r sharp theyl catch u and send u home...processin for naija can take anywher from 3 to 6 months..u need a confirmation of enrolment, police report, medical report, bank statement and ties to home country. its a time consuming process. u send applicatn to nz embassy in pretoria. fulltime jobs shuld earn you abt 40k or more depending on skilled area per yr on a 16.50 dols an hr. some occupations are on the shortage list so you can do ur research and see what course u can invest ur money. shortage skills lead to residence. google these infos. you can do it all by urself. I did...dont come study course wey dem no need if u want to stay to get residence. finance, bis admin, chemistry are nt needed so package ursef...nursing,social work, physical therapy, engineers e.t.c. so yeah all up to u. |
NZ and Australia are the next best secret, thats why you wouldnt get much info on here. 9ja folk messed up the Uk, ireland,us, and canada and a few other destinations. You will be fine here if you are legitimate. very multicultural. lots of jobs , Never witnessed racism..u'L be suprised how influence the hip hop culture has...laid back..they have many public holidays usually to mix the weekend. nz passport can reside indefinitely in aussie and vice versa...if you can keep cool and invest financially in a course that is needed (skilled) will pay off a path to residency and susequently citizenship. skools are good and expensive. bottom line is u need lots of cash for studies and accomodation as they rarely give scholarships. u L be on the nxt flight home if u become homeless and dont attend classes. avoid hustling or illegal Africans. ur 9ja passport must not expire here cos no 9ja embassy. avoid christchuch cos of flood and earthquakes. Your hard work pays off here but u l be 38 hrs away from naija. |
