Eruditor: Juup went 1 full season and didn't win a spoon. The Bayern board decided to book Pep down against the following season. Juup was a caretaker manager that overperformed. Perhaps, if the board knew he'd win the treble, they won't have signed Pep.
But how good is this Bayern side? Would they have won the UCL back to back? If not then cut Pep some slack.
I don't know where you watched that Match, but on DSTV the commentary from Sky sports said after losing 1-0 away at Madrid, his players called him aside and told him he should not worry about the second leg since they knew the way to beat Madrid themselves. He took the ginger from his players and let them play their own way and they were 3-0 down before the 2nd half. I don't know how true the story is, but I am cocksure I heard the commentator say this story.
Sometimes you could have a perfect tactic and it just takes one player to destroy it. It could be your player or the oppositions. In Bayern's case, it was Messi.
Ask Wenger about Messi (6-3 and 4-3 of 2010 and 2011). Ask Mou of Messi in 2011. Both managers felt they had Barca cornered till La Puga atomica upturned that feeling.
Now Pep is poised to die by the legs of the monster he created. Gary Neville and co said exactly this in the match commentary on Bein Sport UK, during the Barca vs Bayern match. |

mithel: 1 shot on target for 90 minutes... But people be like it was an exciting end to end stuff.... The game was boring, only the trickery and flair of Neymar n Messi saved the day... Na why na Messi we dey praise, not the barca performance In the official stat, they didn't record any shot on goal. |

Eruditor: This Barca team definitely attacks better than Pep's Barca and that is down to MSN really. In 2009-2013 Barca heavily relied on Messi. As we can see today, Suarez did the job against City and PSG and now Messi has done it against Bayern. That's the difference.
Comparing Rakitic to Xavi doesn't cut it. Barca had only 48% of the ball yesterday but they won the game 3-0. This would never have happened in Pep's day. Barca have made up in attack what they have lost in Midfield.
Mou could not KO LFC but Avram Grant did. So is Avram now better than Mou? 2009 Barca also KOed Chelsea. What's the fuss?
Pep is like Messi- they are guilty of their own high standards. If Pep wins, they'd say it is his players not him. If he loses, they still blame him. Dortmund thrashed Madrid 4-1 at their home ground, why didn't Mou park the bus and lose just 1nil?
Bayern's Midfield matched Barcas. Till 76mins Pep's tactics worked. As a Barca fan, I was scared we would draw because we had missed 2 good chances in the first half. If Pep's players make an individual mistake why should he be blamed? Did you blame Blanc when Luiz was getting nutmegged? Did you ask Blanc why he didn't park the bus? Cut Pep some slack. Spot on jare. |

Spencer63: A more active figure in the second half was also the referee, who showed four yellow cards after 25 minutes of play, two to each side. But because of new rules that UEFA implemented, these cards would have no lasting effect - only if a player picks up two in one game - as all players came into this game with zero yellow cards on their accounts. Quoted from goal.com Someone should please explain this.. Cc dmcdad homesteady krasid, et all What it means is that; like in the World Cup, from the semi final stages, the accumulation of yellows (back-to-back matches) or the 5 yellows accumulation, wouldn't be effective in order for teams not to lose their best players in the finals. So, aside having 2 yellows in a match (RED) or a straight red card, then there is nothing like suspension from the semi-finals to the final stage. |

Mcleo007: Looking at the game, on the tactical front, Pep won. Hes the boss when it comes to tweaks and tactics. He started the game with a 3-5-2 that drifts to a 3-4-3 as the game progressed, especially when they have the ball. That raised a high line of defence and hard pressing from the midfield players. Would have been a difficult one for us had their key players played. They controlled the game better and would have gotten a decent result from the game. Perhaps, a draw or slight loss.
Lucho deserves some praise tho... He was firm with his philosophy? His is: What use is possession in the middle of the pack when you have a terrific front three. It was a case of struggle more to win back the ball when lost(ball interceptions), feed I. Rakitic whose job is then to look out for god-Messi and co. It is simple, straightforward and lethargic.
On the players:
1. Ter Stegen is the best. He laid no foot wrong on the night. So assuring on the ball.
2. The full backs did great in defending and working down the flanks.
3. G. Pique and J. Mascherano were assuring as always. Thank goodness, the vintage G. Pique is back.
4. l. Rakitic? Total upgrade from Cesc. A worthy wearer of the No 4 jersey.
5. Don Iniesta had a quiet and effective game tho. Funny how it panned out.
6. S. Busquets is the best pivot midfielder in the world. Superb performance!
7. Neymar Jnr was OK. Was marked well but had his moments. Great golazo from him.
8. L. Suarez? The best of him is yet to come. 40 goals is sure next season.
9. god-Messi? Thunder fire me if I say anything about his performance! |

homesteady: I'm still trying to come to terms with what happened!
The match was just so even! Those bayern players really tried, their midfield game worked well! And our players soaked up the pressure!
But the match was decided by Messi! his 2nd goal the height of the evening!
I must also commend Rakitić, damnn! that guy was rock solid and I was so impressed with his skills, he played like a real classy midfielder! Rakitic played like he was on drugs! Yet some say he is just ordinary. Nothing special about him. Imagine combining his skill-set, passing game and his tackles. That guy play ball abeg. And Shakira? Rock! |
