PetsColossal Biosciences Brings Back Dire Wolf From Extinction; by DolapoX(op): 6:00am On Apr 08, 2025
Colossal Biosciences, the genetic engineering company working to bring back the woolly mammoth, has actually already brought back one of its extinct Ice Age cohabitants: the dire wolf.

The Dallas, Texas-based biotech company revealed Monday the recent successful birth of three dire wolf puppies, a major step in proving the viability of Colossal's "de-extinction technologies" and its potential use in bringing back other species.

The birth of the dire wolf pups marks the first successfully de-extincted animal, Colossal CEO and co-founder Ben Lamm said in a press release.

“Our team took DNA from a 13,000-year-old tooth and a 72,000-year-old skull and made healthy dire wolf puppies," Lamm said. "It was once said, ‘any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.’ Today, our team gets to unveil some of the magic they are working on and its broader impact on conservation.”

Lamm and George Church, a biologist at Harvard Medical School, founded Colossal in 2021 with the goal of bringing back the woolly mammoth. Since then, the private company, valued at about $10 billion, according to Bloomberg, has expanded its plans to include the de-extinction of the Australian thylacine (Tasmanian tiger) and the dodo.

With the reveal of the dire wolf puppies, Colossal shows "that our end-to-end (de-extinction) toolkit that we talked about with the mouse works, but now it's working with ancient DNA and it's been pretty incredible," Lamm told USA TODAY.

Many may have first heard of the dire wolf from HBO's "Game of Thrones" and George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of fantasy novels, on which the TV show is based. (The dire wolf was the sigil, or mascot, of House Stark.) Others may be familiar with the Grateful Dead song, "Dire Wolf."

Dire wolves have also appeared in video games including Final Fantasy and World of Warcraft, tabletop game classic Dungeons & Dragons, and card game Magic the Gathering.

But the dire wolf is an actual real-world predator, which went extinct about 13,000 years ago after roaming North America for thousands of years before that, alongside saber tooth tigers and mastodons.

During the project to de-extinct the dire wolf, the Colossal researchers developed a cloning shortcut using blood instead of tissue samples from wild coyote-Red Wolf mix wolves, which carry Red Wolf DNA, to birth two litters of Red Wolf puppies. "So we're able to inject these new genetics into the recovery population in a way that can bolster their adaptive ability," James said.

Colossal plans to breed more dire wolves and study them and how they act in packs. As of now, there's no plan for the wolves to breed.

They hope North Carolina is interested in using the company's technology to bring more Red Wolves into nature, too. Wolves are "critical to ecosystems, they're helpful to the planet and they're also an American icon," Lamm said.

Reaching out to all corpers out here and to anyone that can offer solution

I got an Nysc loan this year January, the amount I collected was 30,000 naira and I was told the money will be removed twice from my allawee starting from the month of January then extending to February which was done like that but few days ago I started receiving messages from them through my mail that I haven’t balanced my loan, I reached out to them and I was told that I need to forward my deduction record from remita so that they can solve the issues from their end. I did that and the customer care agent sent me a message that it has been resolved only for me to receive my allawee yesterday and I got the sum of 8,000 naira instead of 77,000. I reached out to remita again for my deduction record only for me to see that my account was debited four times by this so called helppo africa loan company despite the fact that I already balanced my loan. On getting to their twitter page, I realized I’m not the only one going through this issue, helppo Africa is scamming other corpers like me as well.

Please stay safe out there.
Christianity EtcPastor Femi Lazarus Clarifies Stance On Music Ministers by DolapoX(op): 5:06pm On Mar 24, 2025
Nigerian pastor, Femi Lazarus, who recently ignited controversy about the gospel music industry by challenging the financial expectations of gospel ministers, has provided explanations to defend his stance.

In a sermon on aired on YouTube Sunday, Lazarus insisted that music ministry is for those who were called into it as a ministry and should not be commercialised.

He added that those who charge for performances are not music ministers but music artists and are doing business not ministry.

He said, “A music minister is one who expresses his ministry through music. A music artist is not a kingdom-based minister, hence is not for the church. Churches, we don’t have music artists, although there’s nothing wrong with being a music artist, what we have is a music minister.

Any music minister you can’t trace to a church to see a pastor where the fellow is primarily learning doctrine is not a music minister. He’s an artist.

“A music minister is not just one who sings but is sound in doctrine and full of the spirit. How can you be charging when the atmosphere is not charged?

“A music minister is given the training we give pastors. He stewards God’s gift without commercialising it. The moment you bargain to sing, you are a businessman. If you pay every music minister, ushers will say ‘We are standing for so long you have to pay us.'”

There’s nothing wrong with music business,” he clarified, “just don’t claim to be a minister if you are an artist. If you are a pastor and you call a music minister who charges you and you pay, God will judge you.”

Lazarus cited gospel artists Nathaniel Bassey and Bukola Bekes as examples of true ministers, saying, “A music minister is primarily established in a local assembly from where he primarily operates. You have no access to the body of Christ without the authorisation of the local church.

“If you say there are no templates, I tell you there are templates. Nathaniel Bassey is a template. The man who plays sax for Daddy G.O. is a template. You don’t see Bukola Bekes miss Holy Ghost meetings. “

Responding to concerns about how gospel ministers can sustain themselves financially, Lazarus suggested they should seek alternative income sources unless they have a divine calling into full-time ministry.

He said, “Did God call you into full-time? If not, get a job while you serve with your gift. This is not for just music ministers, it’s for all ministers. If you allow that to limit you to 150k, 200k you will not rise. If God did not say follow me in full-time, plan your life. If not, you will suffer and say it’s the church that used you.

“Have plans, have businesses. Go to school and get a certificate. There are many opportunities out there, you can do all those things, fly around the world, come back to church and still play (instrument). You can be the MD of a bank and yet be a keyboardist.

“A music minister can have an academy which definitely can be paid because people are coming to gain knowledge professionally. Such is an academy where you use your skill to equip people who enrol in the academy the same way people enrol in a school.”

While acknowledging that some churches may offer salaries to their ministers for dedication and focus, Lazarus stressed that such arrangements must remain ministry-oriented and not become transactional.

“It is very possible that a local assembly decided to put you on salary for the purpose of being dedicated and committed without distraction in your assignment. It is 100% scriptural,” he noted.

“If you marry and you claim to be in full time and there’s no structure for the way your family is to be fed, then you’re worse than an infidel. People are suffering for what God did not call them into,” the cleric cautioned.

Lazarus also urged pastors to be supportive of their music ministers, admitting that many struggle because their churches fail to provide proper assistance.

However, he advised against the pressure of using excessive funds to promote themselves.

“Pastors should stop the pressure of bankrolling with millions of Naira. If God has not promoted you, you cannot promote yourself. YouTubers have become kingmakers that pastors say ‘just push us’ even if it is controversial. Once there’s a controversy, it’s an opportunity to make money. It’s business.

“If you are a Christian YouTuber understand that you chose it but what you want to do is that you’re trying to publicise doctrine. You’re trying to publicise the word. If you divide the body of Christ for dollars, you’ll cry for it at the end.

CrimeOgunbode Quadri; Missing And No Where To Be Found by DolapoX(op):
A thread was created sometimes ago here on nairaland about a friend of us who got missing, kidnapped and killed by a so called pastor which is somehow not true because police officers at panti are claiming it’s a baseless information

Link to the previous thread: https://www.nairaland.com/8358839/man-god-arrested-after-k#134406579

However there’s also a disturbing news that has been circulating on social media, claiming that Quadri's body was exhumed from the church belonging to the suspected prophet but Quadri's parents have denied any knowledge of a grave being dug up or a body being exhumed. The police have also dismissed the reports, labeling them as fake news and misinformation. Nevertheless, eyewitnesses from the area insist that they witnessed the exhumation of a body from the pastor's church.
It's essential to understand that Quadri's parents have made concerted efforts to keep this matter private, away from social media and public attention. Their sole desire is for the police to conduct a thorough investigation and help them locate their son.
One can only imagine the immense pain and distress they endured while granting that Interview with Oriyomi Hamzat, Now they're left feeling helpless and clueless, which is why they're crying out to Nigerians!
Despite spending a substantial amount of money in the case, they're still unable to find their son, “Dead or Alive”

The old students of ABEOKUTA GRAMMAR SCHOOL are hereby appealing to Nigerians to help take us this matter as it seems the NPF is trying to cover up the whole case.
