Greatihex:Yes! But that was a team that was built as a mechanical team. A team that was good in the art of defending, a team that was the antithesis or antidote for those teams(barca/bayern). Now, we are trying to match them, to play like them and that requires time. |
The Conte effect: Chelsea boss hailed for turning David Luiz into a 'serious defender' Luiz rejoined the Blues from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window. Chelsea's summer recruit David Luiz looks like a "serious defender" under Antonio Conte, according to Jamie Redknapp. The pundit has been impressed by the Brazilian since his move from Paris Saint-Germain, observing that Luiz looks a much better player than he did during his first spell at Stamford Bridge. Luiz, 29, played for the Blues from 2011 until 2014, when he moved to the French capital. But his career at Stamford Bridge was blighted by high-profile errors – and Luiz's shock return to West London during the summer transfer window created a lot of discussion among fans.). "There is a hunger about this Chelsea team," Redknapp said on Sky Sports. "The manager has brought that in and the players are buying into it. "Every single player on that pitch is working hard and there's a desire about them again. Conte has got them so well drilled. Everybody knows their job when they have the ball and it suits them defensively as well. "Luiz looks – I'm scared to say it – like a serious defender. You've got him buying into it as well, and that was a problem for Chelsea for many years. But when he's like that, he looks the real deal." Chelsea's disciplined defensive display also impressed Gary Neville, who was previously critical of Luiz for overplaying in dangerous areas of the pitch. "This Chelsea team have not made a mistake today, they've not put a foot wrong," the former Manchester United captain said. "The concentration and focus is there but the clean sheet mentality is the big thing for me, and it's there right through the team these past few weeks. Even Luiz is kicking it into the stand when two years ago he might have done a Cruyff turn and tried to beat the attacker."

City lost the away leg 4-0 in Spain and are second in Group C, one point in front of Borussia Monchengladbach. Sergio Aguero is expected to start for City on Tuesday, and right-back Pablo Zabaleta could be available. "We dropped two points against Celtic, so we have to recover those points," said the former Barcelona manager. "It's not a final for them, it is a final for us." Aguero started the game at the Nou Camp on the bench but, following two goals in a win over West Brom in the Premier League on Saturday, is expected to start. "We have to be focused for 90 minutes, knowing they are going to provoke mistakes because of the quality they have," added Guardiola. "But we had a few chances [in the first game] and have to keep going in that sense and try to finish better than we did in Barcelona. "We will try. I have never entered a match thinking we can't win but we have to play almost perfectly." http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37823784 |
raumdeuter:You are still attempting to draw me back and forth with this but I think I'll pass. All I'll say is that this argument should take place by December /January, then can we begin to assess both Chelsea and man-u's projects. By the way, what happened to your dayokano account Abi them give you life ban ![]() |
raumdeuter:I don't think anyone has ever called him a success in Europe. He lacked experience in Europe as it was his first time of trying but his ideas and methods finally triumphed as one can boldly say that the team that played in the finals when he left was a team made in his image and which had all his imprints on it. As for Chelseas last season, I really don't want to go back and forth with you on this matter as it would lead to nowhere, you hate mourinho so there is nothing I would say which would change your stance on what you feel about him and many here will see my view as being sentimental but I don't think mourinho is to be fully blamed for last seasons woes. He definitely has a share of the blame but there were many factors which I can't go into right now due to time. |
elampiro:The only good thing about Ramirez was his versatility and hardwork just like willan. They have no end product. If you have up to 3 players like that in your Team, you're finished. We once finished 6th in the league with these players. |
Those sending me some kind pm, ![]() Ayam not understanding ![]()

It's definitely too early to say this team can beat the elite teams in Europe but it's also wrong to say conte won't succeed in the Champions League because of his pedigree Raumdeuter, juve had finished 7th when conte was appointed, they had not been in Europe for four consecutive seasons and Moreso their appearances preceding their eventual demise from Europe was very underwhelming. As for conte himself, he was making his debut in the Champions League as a manager so he could be forgiven for underwhelming in his first season considering the factors I have earlier accentuated. For juve to have eventually reached the final immediately conte left is proof that his gradual task of rebuilding juve had been completed. Many fans and pundits certainly appreciate his efforts in rebuilding juve so it's very unfair to for raumdeuter to call him a failure in Europe but it's will certainly be a grand delusion of the highest order to say this Chelsea can beat Barça or Bayern or any of the elite yet but as a Chelsea fan, I believe we are gradually getting there. |

Report: Southampton 0 Chelsea 2 It was a pleasingly familiar tale for the Blues on our Sunday afternoon visit to the South Coast as we recorded a fourth straight league win without conceding a goal since the change in team shape at the start of the month. In its way, this well-deserved victory that came courtesy of an early Eden Hazard goal and an outstanding Diego Costa strike in the second half, matched the home wins over champions Leicester and Manchester United given Southampton’s strong home record. They had not been beaten at St Mary’s in the previous 11 games. Chelsea’s win here last February had preceded that run. Following the four goal-mauling of Man United in this slot last weekend, it was no surprise to see Antonio Conte leave his selection unchanged for our final game of October, especially as he had rested a few legs at West Ham in the midweek cup outing. Pedro, following such an early impact on that game a week ago, took only marginally longer to make his presence felt today when his run and pass found Eden Hazard inside the Saints penalty area but although the Belgian slammed on the breaks and centred the ball, Diego Costa at the near post was not allowed a chance to shoot. It was a good start from the visitors. Nemanja Matic was called upon to block a shot from Dusan Tadic and our former midfielder Oriol Romeu hooked over from range as the home side had their initial go at goal, but with just five minutes on the clock they went behind. Goalscorer Hazard was involved earlier in the move. He then took a return pass from Victor Moses on the right and sold the Southampton defence the same dummy they fell for on his earlier attack, but he this time went for goal rather than a pass and a great choice it was too. The ball flew through Fraser Forster’s legs and into the net for Hazard’s fifth Premier League goal already this season, and one that kept his team’s momentum turned up high. Southampton spent the following minutes playing safe in an attempt to steady ship but our forward play was looking lively enough to suggest the next chance was not too far away. It didn’t come and by the midway point in the half the Saints were gaining the initiative. Marcos Alonso gave away a free-kick on Tadic which the Serbian took and drew a save low down in the bottom corner from Thibaut Courtois. That would prove to be the home side's one shot on target. Gary Cahill and Alonso won aerial contests which were the platform for a Blues counter-attack. Hazard’s crossfield pass was meant for Pedro but instead found Moses whose shot was deflected off-target. No goal but it did herald a spell of more Chelsea possession and greater control. Hazard, this time from a position on the left, drifted inside and had a good effort saved. Diego Costa had not been greatly involved up to this stage but he was the next to be denied by the now busy Forster after Matic, impressive throughout, won the ball forcefully. Our striker’s shot was saved by the keeper’s foot so the teams went in at half-time with the Londoners one goal ahead. It was Conte’s side who started the second half with the greater impetus too, and Fonte was not far away from turning a dangerous Alonso cross past his own keeper as he defended it facing goal. Alonso on the run then shot several yards wide after an impressive turn and surge down the middle of the pitch from Diego Costa. Our striker would do even better a couple of minutes later. In his two and a bit seasons in the Premier League, the 28-year-old has built his goalscoring reputation mostly on being a penalty-area predator but his 56th-minute strike that doubled our lead was worthy of any long-range specialist. He received the ball outside the area towards the left, worked it inside a yard or so and then gave Forster no chance with a rocket into the far side of the net. The exuberant celebration was worthy of the strike. Diego Costa was back above Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku as the Premier League’s topscorer. This was goal no.8. This afternoon’s two goalscorers nearly combined for another shortly after and then Pedro had the chance to make the Saints pay after Forster failed to hold onto a Moses shot, but delayed shooting too long. The home side had a good chance to halve the deficit with a quarter of the game to go but Charlie Austin headed over. Later in the game, Steven Davis challenged David Luiz in the air and the ball looped onto the top of the Chelsea crossbar. Moses tested Forster with a stinging effort shortly before Austin had the ball in the net at the other end, only to see the flag raised for offside. The clean sheet did not come under threat again. With these three points we retain our fourth place at the top of a very tight league table. Nihilist:Not only were you trolling, you were sounding so amateurish and childish. As though you were thinking through the anal hole( covers nose). To show how much of a dimwit you are and a half baked cretin, the same you who made the comment below; Nihilist:Is still the same person now saying it is an "attention seeking" function. Of course it's not anyone's responsibility to keep the place lively or post the articles like I do( not that I have the time anyways) but this place became so boring!! There was a time when ibime, cougar, Chelseabmw, raumdeuter, cfcman, elampiro, Tval and other old users used to regularly engage in matured, sensible debates, discussions and banters. That has long died and I can be forgiven for trying to revive the thread, only an ignorant fool would see a nice innovation and call it an attention seeking exercise after already commending it. I could have stopped if I saw it didn't have any effect whatsoever but the recent surge I had in followers( of which you are one) indicated that people liked it but maybe couldn't comment always. If you are not comfortable with them, make the transformer your best friend I have never taken credit for the articles, so you saying I lack ideas by "copy and pasting"( sourcing and editing nice articles) is a further proof of your Tom foolery. If anyone is "attention seeking ", it's you at least I don't go around making a public diary of my life.that reeks of high narcissism . Nobody wants to see your dreaded god-forsaken drug-taking lifestyle. In your words. BE GONE CLOWN |
Ibime:Absolutely!!!! Conte is really proving to be a bargain. I am highly impressed. |
Nihilist:For someone who is supposed to be learned, you ought to know that there is nothing such as "private convo" in a public forum. If you had thought well before posting, you would know that this is a public forum where general ideas are shared, discussed and debated upon. If you were also adequately literate, enlightened and informed, you would have known that this is a Chelsea fan thread where Chelsea fans discuss ideas about the club and debate sensibly on issues. as such only an ignoramus would see a fans interjection or opinion as "notice me". You were trolling and you had to be called to other. If you have a problem with that, that's your cup of tea. I would advise you to go and learn further about a public forum. PS; nice game!! Costa and Hazard, keep flying the blue flag high. ![]() |
I hope we win with a large margin today |

Another away game for Manchester United and a chance for José Mourinho’s players to respond to the manager’s scathing criticism of their efforts against Fenerbahce. Swansea, on the face of it, should be benign opponents. They are second from bottom, without a victory since the opening day and have collected only two points from a possible 27, prompting Bob Bradley to describe keeping Swansea up as a “huge” job. Mourinho must feel the same way about turning United around. Oasis007: larride:@ larridee thanks for the compliments, although I feel that my aims of doing it are defeated most at times. I use little piece of my lucrative time to source for nice articles, opinions or matters concerning Chelsea and a few fans will complain with one even inferring that I was "seeking attention " .But all the same, seeing these comments and the amount of followers I have amassed since I started suggest some fans are okay with it, when I have the time, I will try my best. ![]() |
The mood at Manchester United is one of frustration mixed with confidence that very soon everything will begin to click and performance will match result. Tottenham Hotspur are six points ahead of José Mourinho’s side in fifth place and given Mauricio Pochettino was of interest to United before hiring the Portuguese each man may have a little extra motivation to deliver three points.
