What I did:
.
Multiply (i) by 1 and (ii) by 4
.
12m + 12n = -7 ........... (iii)
16m - 12n = 28 (iv)
.
Add (iii) and (iv) to eliminate n
.
28m = 21 ............ (v)
.
Divide both sides of (v) to isolate m
.
m = 21/28
.
I stopped there. But when I checked the answer on the book, it was reading a different thing. Please, where am I getting it wrong? I am open to learning.

You multiplied wrongly, it should be
12m+12n=-7
4m-3n=7
multiply eqn 1 by 3 and eqn 2 by 12
36m+36n=-21
48m-36n=84...I guess you can carry on from there m should be =1

Corrosive Greeting to our Amiable UNIBEST Students. As earlier promised to always keep us abreast with happenings on campus even while you are far away for Holidays. This is to clear the doubt and rumour on social media as regard Hostel Accommodation, School Resumption Date, Hike in School fees and Admission exercise.
Considering the Stance of the Dean of Students, Prof. Benson O. Osadolor, Hostel application exercise has NOT commenced and according to him, whether or not the application will be online has not been decided yet.
However, the Dean promised that fair and equal chance would be given to every UNIBEN INTELLECTUAL especially the incoming 100 level Students and the Final Year Brethren (FYB). And reiterating the words of the Dean of Students "Hostel Accommodation would be strictly on a first come first serve basis"
A chat today by The Public Relations Officer Student Hon. Ikotu Gideon Kelechi with the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Lawrence N. Ezemonye reveals that there is no new Date yet for Resumption and No New Calender for 2016/2017 Academic session. Consequently, Resumption Date for 2016/2017 Academic session Remains "For Now" 03/09/2016. Any subsequent change would be made known to the General Public via this same platform.
In addition, the SUG is Not Unaware of the recent dreaded rumour on social media about the HIKE in school fees. This is to bring to our Notice that University Of Benin School fees Still Remains the same.
Conclusively, University Of Benin in line with the federal Government Directive will NOT be conducting POST UTME exercise. This was made known to the Public Relations Officer SUG today by the University Admission Officer. The various departments in the University has started submitting their cut-off marks. Consequently, Admission considerations would be strictly based on JAMB SCORES.
According to him also, the University Merit list "FIRST BATCH" would be released any time within this week and next.
The Students' Union Government urge every UNIBEN aspirant to discard any news contrary to the above and continually check on UNIBEN website for any update and admission status.
Furthermore, this is to sound a very serious warning to anyone involved in spreading false news to desist from such act as the consequences would be too rough on such if been caught.
Greatest Uniben Students, please let's be properly guided and disregard any News contrary to an adequate and a verified information from the Office Of The Public Relations Officer Students' Union Government.

Jamb Set To Meet Tertiary Institutions Over 2016 Admissions The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Friday said it had concluded arrangements to hold its next technical meeting on admissions at the Bayero University in Kano. The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said in Lagos that it would hold from Aug. 22 to Aug. 26. Benjamin said that the meeting would receive the lists of candidates who had met the admission criteria from the various tertiary institutions for its ratification. Benjamin said, “ We are expecting a full complement of representatives from all the tertiary institutions in the country to attend the meeting. “They are expected to submit the lists of first choice candidates shortlisted for admission into the respective tertiary institutions, comprising universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. “ The board and all other stakeholders will collectively go through the lists to see if they had met the admission criteria. “The board, if satisfied, will ratify the lists and admission print-outs will be issued to the institutions.’’ He said that the names of successful candidates would also be uploaded on the website of respective institutions for candidates to print. According to him, the admission letters will contain details such as admission status, school and course of study as well as duration of chosen programme. NAN
