I somehow suspect it wasn’t intentional, more like he was making a move for a pass, but then.... it’s safe to say his move gave Mount and Harvertz space to work easily.
Unlimited22: It was definitely intentional. Like patrickmuf said, Werner is a necessary evil. He does everything right until it is time to actually score.
Very true.
And Harvertz was smart enough to make the run after Werner dragged Diaz out.
Thanks to Pep for not starting Fernandiho, he would have been in a perfect position to intercept that memorable pass from Mount.
patrickmuf: Before the lineup was out, I told my Chelsea pals that if Pep started Sterling, they'd lose. He should have started Fernandinho instead of Sterling, that guy is finished...
If Werner was clinical, the game would have ended in the first half but then again, no matter how many chances Werner's misses, his presence meant Stones and Dias couldn't step up into midfield as often as possible to make the field compact whenever City pressed...That guy is a necessary evil.
Your second line said it all. Werner was wasteful, but stopped Diaz and Stones from contributing in the DM lacking midfield.
Why Pep started Sterling I don’t know, why he chose to start without a top9 I don’t know.
Imagine benching Fernandiho and Cancelo in such a big game. He has paid the price of his overthinking and unnecessary experiment against a tactical TT.
Emaprince: I actually don't see pep as a very tactically astute manager. He just believes in getting the best players who are very sleek in moving the ball ..and has an eye for goals. He depends on his attack and neglects the defence most times.
He has majorly his gung-ho attack style and mad pressing from the front which helps them recover the ball fast when they lose it. When he meets a tactician like tuchel who has players that can try to execute his tactics, you will find pep being confused when his team starts chasing the game.
Tuchel beating him thrice in the space of 6 weeks actually exposed him. He’s not as tactical as they hype him, he’s been successful because of the kind of clubs he goes to, if they are not bossing a farmers league, they are spending recklessly or they’ve got world stars he’ll be using.
Can he do what Mou did with Inter and Porto? Can he do what Tuchel did with Chelsea without spending or world class players? Look at Liverpool’s condition prior to Klopp’s appointment and look at how he has transformed the team, winning Epl and Ucl from nowhere.
Pep days are numbered as a manager. If ManCity sack him, the only team he’s likely to rush to is PSG, for obvious reasons.
We should troll the likes of Madrid and Bayern, ManU just be like Arsenal and won’t feel the pain of trolling because they celebrate mediocre, both players and managers.
They are beneath us and it’s a big let down to be trolling them.
Joins Chelsea the season after we win the UCL. Plays his best football but consistently comes short.
Joins Madrid the season after the threepeat. Immediately loses the Hazard factor and becomes a shell of his former self. Chelsea win the UCL just two seasons after he leaves, defeating his new club along the way.
Omo. E choke.
And ballack? Lost 2 Ucl finals, World Cup finals and I think German Pokal with Leverkusen.
Some players are meant not to win memorable trophies, no matter how good they are.
BikeMan: Scored in the semis, assisted in the final. We are still waiting for the day Bruno “best in the world” Fernandes will turn up when it matters.
