I believe James would still have fared well. He might not have the same assists that Arnold have but one thing is certain, his assists will be more higher than it is at Chelsea. TBF to Marcelo he was a good defender at his younger years as he had the energy to go up and be back in time to defend. As he grew older however his ability to get back in time became very hard so most times he's still in the opposition third when the opponent right side is already facing Ramos with the ball. However age is an excuse Trent doesn't have at all as he's still 23. there's no excuse to be caught napping so much and now that his attacking output has also taken a hit he's looking useless and that's actually why Marcelo was eventually benched, his attacking output became too little to sacrifice his defensive liabilities for

By the way, Trent isn't used to be this bad in the defence but he has been absolutely terrible this season.

He has always been like this. Reason he wasn’t getting exposed then was because VVD and Lovren were in a very good form, covering him up. That’s one thing about defense liabilities in fullback, just like Marcelo, he wasn’t getting exposed because Ramos the GOAT was always there to cover him up and sometimes, chop dribbling and humiliation from wingers who Marcelo should be marking,

Now deep it!! There was a reason Ramos was always getting red card, getting dribbled, fighting wingers and most times padlocking them. If Marcelo was a quality defender, Ramos for no chop all the red cards he got in Madrid.
