A recent study published by the British Journal on their August edition has praised the popular muslim dressing called the hijab, saying it protects the body from plagues. The team who made the study included, Malaysian-born British psychologist Viren Swami at the U.K.’s University of Westminster and they examined 587 muslim women in England and 369 regurlar hijab users. The women ages ranged from 18 to 70 with a total mean of 27. Majority of the women were unmarried and came from different countries like Bengali, Pakistani, Indian, and Arab. Around 200 held an undergraduate degree. Swami revealed that after the women had undergone tests to know their behavior towards their bodies, women who wore Western dress scored higher on every scale of body dissatisfaction. When the subject were told to look at some drawings of the female body and chose the one they truly desired, the women wearing the hijab chose the bodies that resembled the bodies they actually possessed. While their western counterparts where more invloved on how to get thiner and the hijab wearing women did not really fathom such thoughts in high regard. The scientists concluded that it was not only due to the women’s faith that made them less caring of idealized depictions of beauty. The report read: “It might thus be concluded that use of the hijab offers Muslim women a small protective effect in terms of their body image … the use of the hijab may act as a buffer against negative body image,”. The authors ended up saying that even though the, The veil might be oppressive — but so are unrealistic beauty standards. When Swami was asked if he had any discomfort with this impression, and he said:,” We’re not making a judgment” one way or the other. “We’re certainly not saying that everyone should be wearing a hijab.” And there might be any number of other reasons for the disparity in self-image between the cohort of women who wear the hijab and those who don’t. Perhaps cultural factors that are related, but not directly derived from the prevalence of the hijab, affect how women talk about their bodies. In societies where the hijab is more prevalent, many choices are foreclosed to women, and that may affect how they conceive of and talk about their bodies. Despite huge protests against ban of hijabs in public places some European nations have kept the highly discriminatory law. It would suprise all to know despite the amount of hijab use in Iran, Iran has more nose jobs done in the country than in the USA. www.naij.com/289989-new-study-women-wear-hijab-better-fresher-skins.html |

Messi is one of the best players in the world and has nothing left to prove...hala da magician!!! |
Lionel Messi is one of the greatest footballers to have played the beautiful game. The Argentine set records tumbling over the years and we can expect more of the same from him. Even after all his achievements there are doubters who suggest that the Barcelona man needs to prove himself with other teams or in other leagues. Here are five reasons why Messi doesn’t need to leave Barcelona to prove his greatness. #5 He has broken the myth of his over dependency on Xavi and Iniesta Contrary to popular arguments, Xavi or Iniesta do not assist a major chunk of Messi’s goals It is a popular argument that Leo Messi scores so many goals because he plays along with Xavi and Iniesta. This can easily be countered when you look at the number of goals scored by Messi that are assisted by the Spanish duo. In fact during Messi’s record breaking year when he scored 91 goals in a calendar year to break Gerd Muller’s record, he was assisted eight times by Iniesta and five times by Xavi . He was also assisted by 16 other players. 14/91 goals doesn’t seem like a big figure does it? Some might even argue that assists alone cannot determine the impact Xavi or Iniesta has on Messi’s game. That’s a fair point and this is where you look at Messi’s performances for Argentina. In the past there were claims that he couldn’t replicate his Barcelona form with his national side, but the captain proved his doubters wrong. In the year 2012, Messi equaled Batistuta’s record of 12 goals in a calendar year for Argentina . He continued down the same path in 2013 and 2014. He played a major role in Argentina’s road to the final during the World Cup and he didn’t have Xavi or Iniesta to depend on. #4 Even the legendary Pele only played for Santos and New York Cosmos Pele is considered to be one of the greatest players ever, even though he played majority of his club career in Brazil Pele is considered to be one of the greatest footballers of all time or in fact ‘the’ greatest. The legendary Brazilian never played for a club in Europe. He spent 18 years of his career playing for Santos in Brazil and then another two years for New York Cosmos. Other famous players like Paolo Maldini or Francesco Torri or Steven Gerrard or Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes have all played for a single club throughout their career and they are all considered to be among few of the best of their generations. This further emphasizes the point that playing for one club throughout a player’s career or for a major part of their career doesn’t take anything away from what they have achieved. #3 Messi has already performed against the top teams from the top leagues around Europe Messi scored a goal in the final of the 2011 Champions League, against Manchester United. Messi doesn’t need to move to a different league or club to prove he is one of the best in the world. The champions league is a battle ground where the best in Europe face each other and Lionel Messi has proved himself on the biggest stage in club football on several occasions. Messi has scored against teams like Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Arsenal, AC Milan, Manchester City, PSG and Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League. These teams are or were arguably the best in their league when Leo Messi and Barcelona played them. In fact both of Messi’s goals against Manchester United came in the final of the tournament. Again some would argue that Messi has never scored against Chelsea, but that is in no way a measure of a player’s greatness. #2 He has surpassed the records of renowned players. Messi has broken numerous records in his career and set new ones as well. Players like Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho and Samel Eto’o have also played for Barcelona, but none of them were able to even come close to Messi’s record breaking spree. This alone is a testament of the player’s skill and caliber. The 27 year old is already the all-time leading goal scorer for Barcelona. He has scored 356 goals for them in 384 appearances. Messi is also the leading scorer in El Clasicos , if that game is not challenging enough to test a player like Messi, I don’t know what is. He has scored 21 times in this fixture so far, breaking the record of the late Di Stefano (18). Real Madrid’s icon Raul is third in the list with 15 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo on the other hand is 7th in the list with 13 goals and Messi has at least 5 or 6 good years of football left in him. Messi is second in the list of all-time leading scorers in the UEFA Champions League. He is tied with Cristiano Ronaldo on 67 goals. Messi though has a better goals to game ratio of 0.78 compared to Ronaldo’s 0.65. Even if Ronaldo is the first one to break Raul’s record of 71 goals, Messi can still catch up to and break that record as he is almost 2 years younger to Ronaldo. The biggest record that the Barcelona man has set has to be his 91 goals in a calendar year , breaking Gerd Muller’s 40 year old record of 85 goals. He has also won the Ballon d’Or a record 4 times! In March 2013 Messi had set or broken a whopping 125 records ! What more does Messi need to do to prove his greatness? Leave Barcelona? #1 Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi vs Ronaldo has to be one of the biggest individual battles in football. It is a never ending debate. Real Madrid is one of the best teams in the World and their rivalry with Barcelona is unmatched. So when these two teams play, it will put even the best of players under pressure and there cannot be a better game to shine and prove you are the best. Moreover when Ronaldo plays in the same league, it is best that Messi plays in the same one in an opposite team so that the world can see these two great players go head to head and fight it out on the pitch every year. source: m.sportskeeda.com/slideshow/5-reasons-messi-leave-barcelona-greatness |

After months of speculations, the Ondo state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko on Friday formally declared his intention to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). In effect, Governor Mimiko has dumped his party, Labour Party (LP) he has sustained as its only governor and national leader since 2006. The governor has already informed members of his cabinet and close political associates in a chain of meetings which took place on Friday at the Government House Akure. Some of his aides were already on their way to their various local government areas as at the time of this report to inform their constituents of the governor’s decision. source: www.dailytimes.com.ng/article/mimiko-dumps-lp-joins-pdp |

A candidate, Lukman Olawale, has accused the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board of issuing him two conflicting results in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Olawale, who claimed he scored 203 in one of the results and 191 in the second one, said the conflict was frustrating him from seeking admission to the University of Lagos and the Yaba College of Technology. With registration number 474040321J, the youngster said he sat for the UTME at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State. According to him, his first check on the board’s online portal on June 2, 2014, showed that he had a total score of 203 from the four subjects he sat for. He gave the breakdown of the score as follows: 50 marks in Use of English, 53 in Mathematics, 50 in Physics and 50 in Chemistry. But Olawale said he got the shock of his life when he returned online on July 20, 2014 to print the result. According to him, instead of 203, the new aggregate score he saw on the portal was 191. The youngster, who wants to study Mechanical Engineering, said, “The new score on my result sheet read: English 49; Mathematics 53; Physics 42 and Chemistry 47.” But the JAMB Public Relations Officer, Fabian Benjamin, not only dismissed Olawale’s claim but also accused him of forgery. Benjamin explained that a check in the system showed that Olawale’s correct score was 191. According to him, the first result in which the candidate claimed he scored 203 might have been forged. He said, “We have searched our system and his score is 191. I do not know where he got the second result from. It might have been forged or doctored because we live in an IT world and many candidates engage in all kinds of crooked acts. “We have caught many candidates who come with such results and when interrogated, they owned up to doctoring the results and that is why the National Youth Service Corps is collaborating with JAMB to ensure that only those with genuine UTME results are mobilised for the national service.” But reacting to JAMB’s position, Olawale insisted that he did not forge or doctor any result. He said, “There was no way I could have forged or doctored the result; anyone with good eyesight can compare the two results and see that they are from the JAMB website, I don’t understand why the board did not want to admit and correct the discrepancy in my result.” Olawale’s father, Abdulwahab, also faulted JAMB’s position on forgery, saying his son printed the first result from the board’s web portal. He explained that his son went back to print the second result when he could not use the score (203) to fill the post-UTME form of the UNILAG. According to him, it was when his son printed out the result the second time that the discrepancy was observed. Abdulwahab said his son had applied for a Diploma programme in Engineering at UNILAG, following the rejection of the UTME result by the institution because of the discrepancy. He said, “The discrepancy in the results is from JAMB, don’t believe what they say. The fault is from their personnel, but we have left everything because we cannot fight them. I know how much I spent for that boy (Lukman) to go to Akure to sit for the exam, including the accommodation and transport cost. “My son is a brilliant boy and there is no way he could have forged that result, as it was printed out for him. Anyway, he has already applied for a Diploma in Engineering and we have decided to put this behind us.” source: myschool.com.ng/school/news/29630/jamb--candidate-accuses-jamb-conflicting-his-results.html |

Barcelona have completed the signing of valencia defender jeremy mathieu for €20m. The 30yrs old will sign a 4yrs deal with an option of one more yr |
Dear Luis, It is with great hope we welcome you back to Barcelona. These are testing times for our club with our golden generation slowly fading and the team in the midst of a major overhaul. Last season we ended trophyless - a first after many seasons and for an ambitious club like ours, it does not make for good reading. We are in need of a true Captain who can steady the ship and bring us back to our glory days. And in you Mister, we have placed all our hopes. I sincerely hope you will not let us down. Despite your spell (as a player) at Real Madrid, we would like to believe that you are one of our own. You have, as a player, been a part of successful Barcelona teams and identify with our way of playing. Unlike other clubs, we require one of our own sons to lead us because we adhere to our rich philosophy which has brought us immense success over the past decade. You are not completely new to the managerial position either, having led the Barcelona B team for three years. Your qualities as a manager were never in doubt, especially among us, having led our B team to their best-ever finish in the 2009/10 season. We know you are a hard-working coach who leaves no page unturned and expects the same from the players. Your spell at Roma may have been unsuccessful but not everybody can fully understand your vision and your methods. Given the right players, you have shown that you can achieve fantastic results while playing an attractive brand of football. It was evident from Celta Vigo’s impressive season last year. We just hope you can handle the pressure of taking charge of one of the most demanding clubs in the World. Much has been said about the one-dimensional nature of our play. It has been a major problem for us in the past few seasons. Martino tried to fix that but in the process he made the team lose its identity. A proper synchronization of styles is a desparate need at our club. We want an alternative way of playing but without losing our core values. We are not in need of a revolution but an evolution in our style. Our defence too needs some major reinforcements which has been the case for quite a while now. The impending signature of Mathieu from Valencia is a step in the right direction but we also need a world-class centre-back in the mould of Mats Hummels or Thiago Silva to lead our defensive line. A marquee signing in the centre-back position would go a long way in relieving our anxiety. The attacking trio of Messi, Neymar and Suarez is an exciting prospect heading into the new season. However, making the three of them play together is going to be a major task for you. As was evident last season, Neymar and Messi could not play their best while playing together. It was no coincidence that Neymar’s best spell came when Messi was out injured. Messi is another major source of concern. Despite his exploits in front of goal, it looked like the injuries were starting to take a toll on Messi and he looked jaded. It was also quite concerning for us as he went missing in some crucial matches when we needed his magic to see us through. It is going to be crucial that you take care of our famed forward line and turn them into a potent attacking force. Like one of your illustrious predecessors Pep Guardiola, you too have come up the ranks after having taken charge of our B team. It is also well known that you are always open to giving the youngsters a chance to shine. The fact that inspite of signing Ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo, you have said that Barcelona B team goalkeeper Jordi Masip has as much a chance of playing speaks volumes of your readiness to give the youth a chance. We have an exciting line of youngsters in Gerard Deulofeu, Jean Marie Dongou, Rafinha and Alen Halilovic, waiting to step up to the limelight. It is my sincere hope that you make the best use of them and make sure that we do not have witness another Thiago-like incident. Barcelona’s image has taken some beating over the past few seasons. The Neymar transfer saga and the resulting transfer ban (removed now) have seen Barcelona be in the news for all the wrong reasons. And to top it, we have signed Suarez. He may be one of the World’s best players but he has penchant for courting controversy. You can take a leaf from Brendan Rodger’s book and handle him with the special care he needs. There have also been some accusations that we have treated stalwarts like Abidal with disrespect. What has been done cannot be undone but we can learn from such mistakes. We expect you to treat Xavi’s case with special care. He has rightly earned his elevated status at our club and although he may not be the Xavi of old, his decision, whatever it may be, should be treated with respect. Even if he cannot play week in week out, the youngsters could learn a lot from playing alongside a legend like him. Losing the League title to Atletico at Camp Nou and then seeing Real Madrid lift La Decima was a cruel sight for all of us. A season which promised much ended with us being empty-handed. We simply cannot have another season like that. I know that we are putting you under enormous pressure but you must have been well aware of it before taking up the job. You were magnificent as a player for our club and you know what it feels like to play for the scarlet and blue of the Blaugrana. We are sure that you will be a success for us. There might be bumps on the road but do not worry, we will help smoothen the journey for you. As we head into the new season, we wish you have a great time leading our beloved club and we hope to see you at the end of the season celebrating our team’s success. For Barcelona, as is rightly said, are more than a club. Visca el Barca! |
You’re probably wondering how a soccer team could be so bad that they let 149 goals be scored, but the truth is it was a form of protest. The event occurred in 2002 after a 2-2 draw between rival teams Stade Olympique de L’emyrne, or SOE, and AS Adema of Madagascar, which resulted in the referees awarding a penalty causing SOE to lose the game. As a form of protest for being robbed of the title because of a penalty, the players purposefully scored 149 goals into their own net at the next game as spectators stormed the ticket booths demanding refunds. Besides being very confused at first, the opposing team eventually stood around in good humor at the planned stunt. The result? Besides losing 149-0 and breaking the previous record from 1885 of 36-0, the SOE coach was suspended along with several of his players and captain.. source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AS_Adema_149–0_SO_l'Emyrne |

Juventus have signed forward Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid for £15.8m. Morata, 21, has signed a five-year contract with the Serie A champions, and is the first major signing for new manager Massimiliano Allegri, who was appointed after Antonio Conte resigned. The Spaniard scored 10 goals in 37 league games in four seasons with Real. The terms of his move to Italy include an option for Real to buy him back for a fee dependent on the number of games he plays, up to a maximum of £23.75m. Juventus, who won three Italian league titles in a row under Conte, have also signed 18-year-old Spanish defender Carlos Blanco Moreno, who arrived on a free transfer on the expiry of his contract with Barcelona. The ex-Barcelona forward thinks that the Ballon d'Or star is has more graft than gift and has tipped Luis Suarez to be a success at Camp Nou Thierry Henry believes that his former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi is untouchable in terms of pure talent, even from Cristiano Ronaldo . The Camp Nou star was unseated as Ballon d'Or holder earlier this year by the Real Madrid forward, but he starred in the World Cup as Argentina reached the final and won the tournament's Golden Ball for his efforts. Henry, who played with Messi at Barca before joining New York Red Bulls in 2010, stressed that he rates Ronaldo but just does not think that the Portugal international - or anyone else in the world - can match Messi toe-to-toe for talent. "Lionel Messi is the best player in the world but I respect the amount of work Cristiano Ronaldo has put into the game," Henry told BBC in a chat with ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand. "But Messi is just a freak. It is nice for kids to watch as they can see one guy who was given a gift and the other guy who does it through hard work. "Louis Saha used to tell me Ronaldo was the hardest worker at Manchester United. I am not saying Messi does not work hard - but it is more natural. "Ronaldo had to work really hard to reach the top. They have the same mentality but that's the difference." Arsenal legend Henry also weighed in on the future on Luis Suarez, who has joined Luis Enrique's side this summer for €88 million, and suggested that the Uruguayan would be a massive hit in La Liga. "He has everything. He's in your face, he's arrogant in a good way, he can volley it, he can score headers," the Frenchman added. "He has that vicious side to his game - I will not call it cheating. He knows how to score goals. We have seen it against England. They gave him two chances and he scored two goals."[color=#000000]The ex-Barcelona forward thinks that the Ballon d'Or star is has more graft than gift and has tipped Luis Suarez to be a success at Camp Nou Thierry Henry believes that his former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi is untouchable in terms of pure talent, even from Cristiano Ronaldo . They gave him two chances and he scored two goals." culled from www.goal.com |
