‘Good, where is the beans I left in that black small pot in the kitchen? Before you answer me Ebelechukwu, remember I have warned you not to lie to me. If you try it, you will see what I will do to you. Ngwa, answer me, who ate the beans I left in the kitchen?’

‘Mummy, I ate the beans.’

‘Why, Ebelechukwu? Who told you to eat it? How many times have I warned you not to eat anything that doesn’t belong to you in this house, ehn? I kept that beans so that your little sister would have something to eat when she returns from school. You are becoming very fond of this. Go and bring me my cane. I will flog some sense into that head of yours today.’

‘Mummy, I am sorry naa. It is not my fault.’

‘It is not your fault? What do you mean it is not your fault? Whose fault is it Ebelechukwu? Open that your mouth and talk to me now or you will see my red eye today.’

‘Mummy, please naa, I didn’t mean to eat the beans. It was when I got back from school and sat down on that broken chair near the kitchen door and was about removing my sandals, that I heard a voice calling my name from inside the kitchen. I was very afraid because I was the only one at home at that time. And when I finally entered the kitchen, I noticed that the voice was coming out of the black small pot on the old stove. Mummy I was afraid to touch the pot, so I used the turning stick to remove the cover. As I looked inside, the beans was calling my name and begging me to eat it. So I obeyed.’

‘My beans was calling your name Ebelechukwu? And you obeyed and sat down and ate everything? Did you use garri?’

‘Yes mummy.’

‘Oh you even had time to soak garri with it? So Ebelechukwu, at my age you expect me to believe this nonsense you are saying? How come the beans didn’t talk to me all the time I was cooking it? How come the remaining beans in the bag have not spoken to anybody in this house since we bought it? You have become so special that you can hear the voice of beans ehn?’

‘Mummy, I am not lying, the beans begged me to eat it and I was very hungry at the time.’

‘This child, you will not kill me before my time. I am tired of your case. I will wait for your daddy to come back from work to hear this latest story of yours. Common, get out of here before I break that your coconut head.’

Ebelechukwu must be the most ridiculous liar since dinosaurs and homo habilis. But his story of talking beans is no different from the stories we will be hearing from politicians as we are being ushered into another political campaign season. Like Ebelechukwu’s mum, some of the political campaign lies have left a lot of us quite confused and shocked. We have often heard politicians use ridiculous lines like, “I had no intention of running for this election but the people have begged me to run and who am I to say no to the wishes of my people?”

Politicians lie so much that they can’t even tell when they are lying. They lie about one another, they lie about themselves, they lie about issues they know intimately, and they lie about issues they barely understand.

When you meet a politician, he’d tell you a lie within 15 seconds of shaking your hand, and if he’s going to meet your mother, he’ll invent a special set of lies for her. Nigerians have become used to politicians lying that they receive honours for lying more frequently and more brazenly.

But let us also understand that politicians lie not because they are wicked (though some are) but because they have learned that political markets rarely reward honest campaigners. The winner of the 1993 presidential election centered his campaign on how he was once a poor man who hawked firewood on the streets. It worked brilliantly and got him a landslide victory.

That may never be seen in the country again. It wasn’t surprising when the preacher cum politician claimed to have been asked by God to contest in 2003 and 2007. Evidently, the ‘God sent’ tag didn’t go down well with a vast majority of the public. In politics, lying is part of the job requirement, a necessary evil.

Just four years ago, the president’s story of having no shoes can be said to be the masterstroke that got him elected. With just that line of “I once had no shoes,” he shattered every dream his opponents had of taking up residence at the presidential villa. If I was one of the candidates of the 2011 presidential election, after hearing the president’s jaw-dropping punch line, I would have sacked my campaign manager for failing to think up something better or equally unbelievable.

From the various campaign slogans I have heard in the past few weeks, it is embarrassingly obvious that the campaign managers these days are downright lazy or dumb. Everything from their campaign themes to music and press releases reeks of the same template used since the 1983 elections. It is a letdown for those of us who find all the political mumbo-jumbos of an election year hilarious. But maybe we should chill a bit for it is still early into the campaign season.


And even so, this campaign season has already seen two presidential hopefuls unleashed some rib-cracking lines such as, “My nomination and expression of interest forms were purchased for me by Nigerian market women and students” and “I took a loan from the bank to purchase my forms.” All we have to do now is watch as the lines roll in until February when it will be left for INEC to determine whether the winner would be a bigger liar than the loser.

A bomb explosion rocked Azare town of Bauchi State today, killing scores of bank customers withdrawing money from an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) of the First Bank Nigeria PLC.

According to eyewitnesses, the blast occurred around 10:30am after an Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) was sneaked into the bank premises and kept close to the major ATM machine. A medical officer working with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Azare, told Channels Television that 18 bodies were brought to the mortuary while the 35 capacity female ward of the hospital was allocated to those brought with various degrees of injuries.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, detectives have begun investigation into the incident, with five suspects already arrested. The identities of the suspects were however not disclosed.

Azare town have had its fair share of terrorists attack since the commencement of the Boko Haram insurgency as last three weeks, an explosion at the Yankari Motor Park of the town went-off killing 13 people while over 20 others sustained injuries.

It is commonplace to see some presidents of countries living lavish lifestyles, and in some extreme cases, looting their countries’ finances for personal gain. But not Mujica.

He is commonly known as the world’s “poorest” president because of his austere lifestyle.

Mujica rejected the luxurious presidential residence the government provided for him and instead opted to live on his wife’s farm located on a dirt road outside the country’s capital. They have no domestic workers – they do all the farm work by themselves. The only staff they have are two police officers.

“Does this planet have enough resources so seven or eight billion can have the same level of consumption and waste that today is seen in rich societies? It is this level of hyper-consumption that is harming our planet.

An Arab sheikh recently offered him $1 million for his Beetle. Mujica is currently considering the offer, and says that if he does sell it, he will donate the money to charity.

What has changed since she got married?

We haven’t done our traditional and white wedding because there is no money. Of course when money comes, we will do it. On the controversy of being paid N1.5million to emcee a friend’s wedding recently:

I wasn’t paid N1.5million for any MC job. The I.5M tag on Instagram was the price of the ring, it was an exclusive diamond ring and I haven’t seen such before, I don’t know why bloggers will assume I was paid such, none of them bothered to confirm it from me. Sometimes when you are bored, you know you just write stuffs on social media but these bloggers blow it out of proportion. And even if I was paid N1.5million, why will I come on internet to let people know I was paid so. Olorun Maje (God forbid), I don’t have such upbringing about showing off my wealth to oppress others, when some don’t even have food to eat. Yet you see some celebs showing off almost 30 cars.

That is why I love comedian AY and his wife, Mabel, Jesus Christ their house is awesome and out of this world, 2face’s house nko. Those are rich people yet they don’t come online to brag about their wealth or fake bags and shoes. Imagine someone buying a $3000 shoe, I dey mad.

Most times it is fans that cause it; they make many celebs lie on social media. They expect too much, forgetting that we are humans too. Imagine if I buy a 3k shoe for instance and I wear it to an event once, fans expect me not to wear it again, they will be like “is that not the shoe she wore last week” so celebrities have to please the fans, I don’t let it affect me though. if I should buy such a shoe, I will still wear it for 7months”

The most expensive item in my wardrobe is nothing. My phone is the only expensive thing I have and it is even cheap sef. My clothes, shoes and bags are China or Uk primary new look which I get from the Island.

According to Premium Times, Boko Haram members who captured Mubi town in Adamawa State as renamed the town as Madinatul Islam, meaning the City of Islam. Here’s how Premium Times reports it;

Contrary to the claim by the Nigerian military that it is on top of the security challenge in the commercial town of Mubi in Adamawa state, the dreaded Boko Haram sect is consolidating its position in the the captured town and has indeed renamed it “Madinatul Islam” meaning the city of Islam.
Aliyu Bala, one of the residents, who could not leave Mubi at the time of the invasion of the town by the insurgents, disclosed this in a telephone chat with journalists. He said the insurgents had taken complete control of the town.

“They mounted check points and surveillance at strategic locations, brandishing riffles but asking us not to panic or run away,” Mr. Bala said.

The trapped Mr. Bala said despite assurances of safety given to them by Boko Haram, thousands of the trapped residents have been sneaking out preferring not to take any chances.

Sunday Wugira, a Yola-based legal practitioner who went to Maiha town to pick up his aged parents that fled Mubi when it was captured said, despite the assurance by the insurgents several trapped residents are still fleeing, including soldiers.

‘’I was in Maiha few hours ago,” he said “The pathetic plight of the people I saw was simply beyond imagination. We were in a commercial bus when some fleeing soldiers said we must adjust for them to get space in the bus to flee, which we objected to. It’s unfortunate that even soldiers joined civilians to run away.”

Meanwhile, Boko Haram have urged displaced residents of captured communities of Adamawa state to return home, assuring them of safety in the “Islamic Caliphate.”

Four local governments: Michika, Madagali, Mubi North and Mubi South of Adamawa State, have fallen under the grip of Boko Haram leading to the displacement of thousands.

A resident of Uba town, Salisu Baba, said normal activities have picked up in the captured territories as Boko Haram enjoined residents to go about their normal activities and open their shops for business.

The resident added that the insurgents have warned politicians not to try to hold any election in the state, vowing to frustrate such actions.

The terrorists also vowed to capture the entire state soon.

“The insurgents have assured people of freedom and have been telling shop owners to open their shops threatening that anyone who fails to open their shop will have it broken into,” Mr. Baba said.

“Whenever the insurgents want any commodity, they pay for it. This encouraged meat sellers, tea sellers and others to open for business,” another resident disclosed.

“They provided security during the market day of Uba town last Thursday while promising to continue to give marketers and residents who come to the area utmost security as long as they comply with Islamic rules.”


“They have opened one of the filling stations belonging to A.A Garba in Uba town as motorists’ troops to buy the commodity due to high demand,” Mr. Baba said.

Lagos State Governor, Batunde Raji Fashola has condemned the present administration and says the president does not deserve a 2nd term. While speaking at the opening ceremony of Women In Business Conference in Lagos on Monday, BRF lambasted the Transformation Ambassadors Of Nigeria (TAN) for deceiving Nigerians and the world that all was well with the country with their false numerous television adverts.

According to him the rate of unemployment in Nigeria is too high and it’s rather unfortunate that Nigeria a major oil exporter is depending on importation.

“Where the North East is under siege and the economy has continued to nosedive, the transformation ambassadors have continued to distort the true information that all is well. All it takes to cripple our economy by those countries from where we buy oil is to say they won’t sell to us any longer.

“We have seen a good example where the country was denied access from buying arms. This is the situation we are in as regards importation of oil. In 2010 alone, we spent N2.5trillion importing fuel into this country. Now, we have less money to import. If we can’t pay for our oil importation, we all know its implication for the country. In not too distant a future, the fuel queues will return.

“The government has yet to give us power as promised, they have yet to give us fuel, we have yet to see the standard highways they promised. There are so many Nigerians living without electricity.

“Within their transformation period, thousands of people in the North East have been killed, thousands turned refugee in their father land, over 200 girls are still in captivity of insurgents and the North East is still under siege. With all these, the transformation ambassadors are telling Nigerians that all is well.”

While rounding up his speech he said the present administration had in 2011 promised to generate 16,000 megawatts by 2013, including harnessing coal opportunity, wind and solar to generate 13,000 megawatts electricity, but nothing of such has been done till date.

Like a scene from a horror movie, a police corporal, Lucky Ikharia, on October 30, allegedly used a bus to crush the legs of his wife, Dupe. Having left her for dead, Lucky went home where he allegedly stabbed his baby, David, to death, ripping out the toddler’s intestines.

Still in a rage, the policeman turned the knife on himself in an attempt to take his own life. Punch Metro, however, learnt that Lucky and his wife survived but both were in critical conditions.


The incident occurred at the family’s rented apartment in Kale Close, Mafoluku, Oshodi last week.

It was gathered that four days prior to the incident, 34-year-old Lucky, who hails from Sabon Gida Ora, Edo State, had a quarrel with his wife, Dupe over N2,000, after which he reportedly sent her packing.

The policeman, who is attached to the Makinde Police Division, Oshodi, Lagos had also ‘seized’ their only child from Dupe as a means of ‘punishing’ her.

It was learnt that around 8pm on the day of the attack, Dupe, a 30-year-old indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, was heading for her mother’s house in Mushin unknown to her that Lucky was waiting in a bus to attack her.

It was learnt that on getting to Olorunshogo junction, Lucky pursued his wife with the bus, crushing her legs in the process.

Leaving her for dead, Lucky was said to have fled the scene while passersby initially thought the attack was random.

However, after Dupe was rushed to a nearby hospital on same evening for treatment and had regained consciousness the following morning, she explained that the man who drove the bus which crushed her legs was her own husband.

Unknown to Dupe, after her husband attacked her, he reportedly drove back to their apartment where he stabbed their child, David, in the belly, before fleeing the residence.

Punch correspondent learnt that Lucky’s co-tenants and Dupe’s relatives who discovered the baby’s corpse on Friday morning, reported the incident at the Akinpelu Police Division. It was also gathered that the knife and the bus had both been recovered.

When Punch Metro visited the hospital where Dupe was receiving treatment on Monday, the woman, who could hardly speak, said the cause of the fight was a sum of N2000 which Lucky claimed she stole.

She said, “We got married and started living together around October 2013. We usually had quarrels and that was not the first time he would beat me up, and send me out of the house. But this incident started on Sunday, October 26. Lucky had initially kept N15,000 with me.

“Then, on Sunday, he collected N5, 000 to repair the bus. Later I gave him the rest, only to realise it was N8, 000. So, he began to question where I kept the remaining N2000. But I knew that it was his nature to stir up trouble because he had a habit of keeping money with me and going again to take it.

“So, we began to fight, and he asked me to leave the house. He did not allow me to take the child with me that day. I was sleeping in friends’ places until Thursday when I decided to go back home. I did not find my baby, and when I asked him, he threatened that if he met me in the house by evening, he would kill me, kill the baby and himself.”

Dupe said she was then called by her mother to come to their family house in Mushin, adding that as she got on her way, and was at the Olorunshogo junction, a commercial bus swerved to her path and hit her several times.

She said, “The commercial bus was his bus. He was the only man inside. He hit me and I fell. Then he reversed and came over my legs again. I lost consciousness. That was the last thing I knew.”

Punch learnt from one of the nurses that Dupe might be admitted in the hospital for about two months and might spend over N600,000 for treatment owing to the severity of the attack.

One of Dupe’s relatives, Mr. Segun Akiode, told our correspondent that the family had yet to inform Dupe of her son’s death. He added that the family also did not know Lucky’s whereabouts.

He said, “I was called on the phone on Thursday evening that my sister was knocked down at Olorunshogo junction. When I got there, I met her in a pool of blood. So, we rushed her to a hospital. It was already around 9.30pm.

“On Friday, when we went to their apartment, we found the baby boy, stabbed in the belly and already dead on the floor. We have not told Dupe about his death yet. So, we went to report at the Akinpelu Police Division, and we were asked to describe the bus which hit Dupe. When we did, they said the bus was with them in the station, but the whereabouts of Lucky were still unknown.”

When our correspondent got to the couple’s rented apartment in Kale Close, Mafoluku, it was learnt from neighbours that Lucky had not been seen at home since the day of incident.

At the Makinde Division, a police source told our correspondent that the suspect was one of the patrol van drivers, but he had not come to work since the day of the incident.

The source added that Lucky, who was believed to have also stabbed himself, was in an undisclosed hospital receiving treatment.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, when contacted promised to get back to our correspondent on the matter, but he had yet to do so as of press time.


Meanwhile, the corpse of the baby had been deposited at a morgue in Yaba, Lagos.

Ace comedian, Julius Agwu who declared his intentions of ruling Rivers State in 2015 three months ago has stepped down. The comedian stepped down after having a meeting with his Kinsmen from Ikwere who asked him to step down for another person from another part of the state to rule in 2015, considering the state Governor and himself come from the same area. Here’s what is manager, Sunday Uwen said in a press statement;

“There was a meeting between Julius Agwu and his kinsmen from Ikwere, and it was agreed that he should step down from the governorship race.

“Because the current Gov. Rotimi Amaechi, is his friend and they are both from the same area.

“They will want the position to rotate to another part of the state and Agwu has decided to listen to his people and withdraw from contesting,” the statement said.
