Music/Radio / Wizkid, Tems Missing As Grammy Releases African Award Winners’ List by Dpaulie(m): 7:14pm On Jan 30
Ahead of the 66th Grammy Award on February 4, the organisers have released a list of African musicians who have bagged the golden gramophones since the 1960s.

The list sparked controversies on social media after singers Wizkid and Tems were omitted among the 10 African winners of the prestigious award.

Per the list, Miriam Makeba, the late South African singer, remained the first from Africa to win a Grammy award.
Sade, the pop singer, followed in the list, making her the first Nigerian to win the global award while Burna Boy is the most recent and last Nigerian to win the prestigious gong.

Grammy Award – Africa Winners List

Miriam Makeba (South Africa) — Best Folk Recording (with Harry Belafonte) – 1966

Sade Adu (Nigeria/UK) — Best New Artist – 1986

Ali Farka Touré (Mali) — Best World Music Album – 1994

Cesária Évora (Cape Verde) — Best Contemporary World Music Album – 2004

Youssou N’Dour (Senegal) — Best Contemporary World Music Album – 2005

Angélique Kidjo (Benin/France) — Best Contemporary World Music Album – 2008

RedOne (Morocco) — Best Dance/Electronic Album – 2010

Tinariwen (Mali/Algeria/Libya) — Best World Music Album – 2012

Burna Boy (Nigeria) — Best Global Music Album – 2021

Black Coffee (South Africa) – Best Dance/ Electronic Album — 2022

Recall in March 2021, Wizkid bagged his first-ever Grammy award for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl’, a 2019 song by Beyonce, the American musician. The project won the ‘Best Music Video’ category.

In 2023, Tems won her own first-ever Grammy award. The Afrobeats singer won the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U’, the 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.

Upon the release of the list by the organisers of the Grammys, questions were asked about what yardsticks were used to assemble the list.

Some users on X have argued that Wizkid and Tems were left off the list because they won Grammys as featured artists.

It, however, remains unclear why both music heavyweights from Nigeria were omitted from the list.

The 2024 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 4 in Los Angeles.

The award organizers also created the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category to recognize African artists.

Davido, Asake, Olamide, Tems, Burna Boy, Olamide, and Ayra Starr were all nominated in this category.

Here's the problem, you knew this and you kept mouth shut till you were out of the system, when they're eating at the table, nobody talks. Our patrotism is questionable in this country. If you probe further, some of these Governors are owners of BDCs. We're aware of certain politically exposed persons that are shareholders in banks that hoard dollars on their behalf.

Artiiclebeast:
What most people do not know about this job is that some of the individuals can be very nasty and difficult to work with particularly the seniors with the onset of dementia and all that stuff.

Most people in the field, even the whites, would never categorize this as an outright abuse though.

Human rights, human rights, is how they've emboldened and made the individuals difficult to manage, and when you allow them to keep their human rights in their filthiness and unkemptness, the authorities will still be the ones to complain about abandonment.

If we had a country or leadership, they would have been left to be cleaning up their own mess however it pleases them.

For the miscreant up there saying "People won't do this kind of job in Nigeria but will do it abroad". Your ignorance is "Harvard-trained". What government or private entities will pay people who do these jobs abroad what they make in 3-4 hours daily?

Nonsense.
You must be very wicked for justifying this, I couldn't even finish watching the video, I had to stop..

Business / To Small And Medium Scale Entrepreneurs, How Faithful Are Your Employees? by Dpaulie(m): 11:07am On Jan 12
Iam a Bet9ja agent in Ibadan, I have like four to five Bet9ja shop, well equipped( I meant standard ones) with huge turnover, but the expenses and maintenance is costly especially after the removal of fuel subsidy.
Therefore I had to switch to solar power which cost at least 2.5m for each shop, I've been having a bit relief though. Now to the topic I've had a lot of bad experiences from my employees despite that they are making a lot of money from customers everyday from excess( those who understand the business will understand this) they do still steal your money, sell paper rolls, use the shop data to watch movies at leisure and all sort of lies. To be candid I have some loyal ones, but most of them are not trustworthy. I had more than five shops before but I have to shut down like two shops due to nonchalant attitude of my staffs there.
Please is it like this in other businesses or this our own is exception?
Please share your experience.
