Feeding with forage
|
@dlskeeman, yes you can construct a wooden pen for the snails, you can also put them under your roof sir, the type of soil to use is loamy soil and you don't need to change your soil at all and may be after some weeks or some months you will be spraying them with supercal or just a calcium powder you can get it from a chemist store or a ventinary store, you will mix the drug with wat and spray it on the snails and likewise on their feeds.. Note the soil must be moist and not wet at all time. You can senticize the soil by spreading it under the sun for 24-48 hours before use. Thanks and feeding of snails does not require much time, you can give the snails the feeds they ought to eat for 3 days or more at a time and it will ease your work and save your time. Thanks |

@ dslkeeman, Factors to be consider in setting up snailery 1. Your interest and dedication 2. Layout -location, housing types, types of soils, vegetation, free predators environment.e.t.c 2. Best species A. Archachatina maginata B. Achatina achatina C.Achatina fulica 3. See some previous cost Analysis. And profit margin on snailery above. Thanks Motto: Breeding to be the best. To be honest, I didn't measure it so I just constructed it the way I wanted it, it can contain atleast 20 to 30 mature snails. |

The female is the main problem, may Be the female have a lot fats which leads to inability to conceive. |
I think the mating is a success, since it is not all the time after mating the male will make some sound or noise. Thanks. |
Thanks for showing up more interest in snailery. |
@Real, I must confess to you sir that your rabbit cage is so lovely, Actual cost for building a rabbit cages I.e wooden cages with 10 cells can be varies between 10k-20k depending on the choice of the owner since some farmer prefer less quality cages while some prefer highly quality cages, but the prices for some wood may be differ from one location to another. Price for a matured rabbit Let me start by saying when I first venture in to this rabbit business I bought my first female rabbit( Priya) by name at the rate of 4k, follows by Shorwa (4k), but this prices varies with location like Lagos now the rabbit I sold to one of my customer at the rate 1200 naira(Growers) because I was in a tight corner then preparing for my I.T program, then now goes for 2 for 5000 naira( same size or even smaller then mine I.e growers) in Lagos when I went to her place around last 2 weeks, definately now her matured rabbit would go for around 5k or so, here in Abeokuta some of my OGA NLA sales theirs at the rate 5k even more depending on the appearance of the bayers, likewise a mature ones goes for between 3500 - 4000 in Anambra, In IBADAN I heard that rabbit is cheap their but I'm yet to confirm. Sir, I'm bringing up this illustration in other to let you know that prices differs with location and in my own my farm If condition warrant it I can let a mature rabbit go for 3500 because of customer relationship,so therefore I can't say the least price a mature rabbit should go for because their is no joint price regulation amongst rabbit farmer so the least price would be determine by the farmer himself after knowing his or her cost of production, cost of feeding, cost of management, All these couple together can determine the least prices for the customer. I hope I have manage to answer your question sir. Sorry for the delay in reply. Thanks. MOTTO:Breeding to be the best. |
@ Matysu, thanks. To me sir, I would prefer half a plot or a plot of land. Reason been that since the snails would still multiply in large number and all procedures both present and the future must be plan now before it become too tedious for someone later in the future. And the management is paramount and snails do not really like a confined place. Thanks |
Alright @ runazz |
@Ebukasoso, thanks for showing up interest in snailery, Stocking in of 1000 snails of Archachatina maginata, you can only have 24000 - 40000 of Archachatina maginata at the end of the year, if you sell all of the snails then you will be making atleast 4-6 million if each goes for 150naira or more per snail. I know a master on snailery who made 20 million on snails within 2 years and he made his first sale at the rate of 500, and Later on he sold the same snails at the rate of 1000 naira but all these snails were sold during the dry season, the species he started with and the one sold is Achatina achatina... So I'm saying this so that there is market for any snails you started with but preferable I would advice you to go for the 3 species and maginata should be many. Yes, Maginata can be harvested within 7 months or so, it mean you will be feeding them with concentrated feeds and the monitory scheme will be maximum and all protocol for the management will be strictly adhere t Thanks Dyoung foreste. |
@1st, I don't have any farmer out there unless I may ask my co-farmer who knows IB very well. Thanks |
I'm located in Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria. |

Do you know that selling of snails requires measuring of the total length of the snails before selling which the outcome measurement will determine how much each snails can go for when I first heard it, it sound strange to me but with proper explaination from my CO-FARMER with several years experience I later understood while it is done so.
