My take on the above issue is a simple take. While we cannot rewind the hands of the clock back to the 90s when we held sway in the African and global scene, we must understand that times have changed which seems to lend credence to the school of thought that we need foreign based professionals more than we need Home based players. However all of these arguments need to be balanced. We seem to have a weird view depending on current circumstances. When eagles are winning, we seem to lean on the idea of we don't need Home based. Once we start getting poor results, the tune changes. Truth is can we really beat our chest and say we have the best representing us both Home and abroad?

Forget the club a player plays in. Does the said player have the skillset required for his role in the national team? If all things are being equal and we will be devoid of bias and sentiments, who says we have to shop abroad always to find the next big thing? Once a player starts scoring weekly we must invite him to come and justle for shirts. Everyone cannot play. We need to stop the idea of polarizing folks against certain demographics based on where they play. Akpoguma akpogunma... now he has played what has he brought to the national team? We fail to look at the team through the eyes of every coach that has been inviting these players. Do they fit into their ideals or philosophy if they have any? When a coach keeps inviting players based on media recommendations and not based on requisite qualities of said players it's sad to say we will always have the same results. Keep also in mind that nigeria is a great footballing country which means we have limited patience and tolerance for mediocre performances on pitch especially when they are on for a long period of time.

While I don't subscribe to the idea of playing a home based players who will end up jetting out to obscure leagues into oblivion, I think finding the right fit who will play with passion regardless of where he plays should be the objective and the criterion for what player is being invited into the National team.

Basically we helped their career but did they improve the national team?? we have a plethora of teams to use for showcasing talents but the super eagles should never be one of them. Nice Analogy which makes a lot of sense. However, a player's trajectory in foreign based clubs is first dependent on the player's well informed choice and his Club and National Team form and his fitness in his first 2 clubs.
Analyse Finidi George from Sharks to Ajax, Tijanni Babangida from Niger Tornadoes to VVV Venlo, Daniel Amokachi from Ranchers Bees to Club Brugge, Okechukwu Uche from Iwuanyanwu Nationale to Brondby, then recent times Kelechi Iheanacho's first move to Man City, Victor Osimhen's 1st move to Wolfsburg. Compare with the likes of Dele Alampasu, Late Sam Okoye, Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike Egwuekwe, etc.

Playing an opposition parading players from local clubsides that have not done well in the past 15years up till last year in any CAF COMPETITION does you no real good bringing your Foreign based best legs when there could be a blend of the best legs from the home scene and the foreign based.
More especially in dead rubber games you gain more in player discovery.

How did you start your football career?

Well, I started like any other Nigerian youth. I started with street football but began to play club football with a small club known as Golden Age of Gboko. In 1996 I joined BCC Lions Junior team. In less than a yea, I was promoted to the senior team where I played for two seasons before moving to Gabros International of Nnewi. I played one season in Gabros and then moved to El-Kanemi Warriors where I played the FA Cup. I then returned to Gabros for another half season and during mid-season I moved to back to El-Kanemi. From El-Kanemi, I moved to Enyimba in the 2002 season. Luckily when I joined Enyimba, we won the Champions League back to back. I played for like four years in Enyimba before joining Lobi Stars in the 2007/2008 season. I played one season and then left Lobi mid-season back to Enyimba. I did another three seasons with Enyimba before returning to Lobi at the beginning of this season.

Just before the world cup in 1994 we played our last friendly match against Georgia in Ibadan. We won that 5-1 after going one nil down. I remember all those years very well because that's about when I started watching football (1989-1993).
