Igbosere magistrate court setting in Lagos state has jailed a pastor with a Pentecostal church, Fisayo Nehemiah, sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, after he was convicted of fraud.
He was sentenced by the Chief Magistrate R. Davies-led court on Friday.
The News Focast reported that the convict obtained iron rods valued at N1, 400,385 from a company, Mukaz Nigeria Limited, on falsified pretenses.
However, he issued a Diamond Bank dud cheque to the Manager of the company, Alhaji Babalola Wasiu, for the payment of the goods items.
The pastor was arraigned on four counts of inducing the company to deliver the iron rods, obtaining the items under falsified presences, conversion of the iron rods to his property, and presentation of a Diamond Bank dud cheque to the company as payment.
But the defendant still pleaded not guilty to the four counts charges against him.

1914, the geographical space called Nigeria existed in bifurcation – the northern and southern protectorates. And before the British savaged and carved out the area for immanent exploitation, there were thriving kingdoms, ethnic groups, cultures, traditions, and civilizations.
In the eastern section of the lower Niger, a republican system of government is more organized than that of the ancient city-states of Greece, flourished among the Igbo people. There were sacerdotal institutions upon which the society pivoted. And the people never referred to themselves as “Nigerians”.
However, in the western plains of the lower Niger, a form of constitutional monarchy, more polished than that of the British, burgeoned among the Yoruba people. There was a sophisticated system of checks and balance, a boisterous culture and civilization. But these people never referred to themselves as “Nigerians” as well.
At the hills of the upper Niger area, a disciplined monarchical system flourished among the Hausa people. And they never regarded themselves as “Nigerians”. In fact, they fought one of the bloodiest battles against the progenitors of “Nigeria”.
The founding fathers – Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello did not operate in the consciousness of “Nigeria” because the construction was not organic. They acted in cognizance of their people.
Before 1947, in his book, ‘Path to Nigeria Freedom’, Awolowo expressed concern about the artificiality of the colonial heritage. He said: “Nigeria is not a nation; it is a mere geographical expression. There are no Nigerians in the same sense as there are English or Welsh or French. The word Nigeria is merely a distinctive appellation to distinguish those who live within the boundaries of Nigeria from those who do not.
From the Awolowo, background “there are no Nigerians” in the true sense of the word. Nevertheless, owing to today’s realities, it is convenient to describe those occupying the “Niger area” as Nigerians.
However, Awolowo's statement should not be construed as an expression of hopelessness in Nigeria's unity. In fact, he was advancing reasons for unity and why each entity within Nigeria must be allowed to grow at its own pace.
But is Atiku Abubakar a real Nigerian or Cameroonian? In my essay, ‘Nnamdi Kanu is right; Atiku’s Adamawa was in northern Cameroon’, I had expounded a historical argument about his origins.
On 11 February 1961, a plebiscite was held in British Cameroons to determine which parts of the territory would stay in Cameroon or align with Nigeria. While northern Cameroon favored a union with Nigeria, southern Cameroon wanted an alignment with the mother country. On 1 June, 1961, northern Cameroon became part of Nigeria, and on 1 October 1961, the southern territory dissolved into Cameroon.
Much of the present day Adamawa state in Nigeria is part of the old northern Cameroon. In fact, there is a region called “Adamawa” in Cameroon today. And even the kingdom of the Lamido of Adamawa stretches into Cameroon. Atiku's hometown, Jada, was a part of Ganye, which was the headquarters of the British Cameroons.”

Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara to respond to suit challenging their defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, within five days.
Justice Okon Abang on Friday also directed 18 senators, 36 House of Representatives members, the Attorney General of the Federation, INEC, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun to file and serve others their papers before April 18, when the suit is set for hearing.
Justice Abang, however, ruled that counsel to the Senators Mahmud Magaji (SAN) would not be allowed to file any defense to the matter before the court.
However, the judge held that since he only filed an application for conditional appearance in the matter, without seeking leave of court to file a response out of time, the court cannot grant what was not requested it under Order 26 Rule 1 of the Federal High Court Rules.
“The court of law cannot grant a party any relief not sought, I so hold. What the 2nd to 18th and 57th defendants counsel sought for is just for a memorandum of conditional appearance, no more, no less, I so hold,” he summit.
LEDAP filed the suit in September 2018 seeking an interpretation of Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.
Recall the suit against the federal lawmakers who defected from their respective political parties was set for judgment on yesterday when the lawmakers appeared in court seeking to be granted fair hearing in the matter.
Senators Saraki, Godswill Akpabio, Musa Kwankwaso, Shaaba Lafiagi, and Rep Dogara among others defected to other political parties in the build-up to the 2019 general elections.

The declaration of Wike, who polled 886,264 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr. Biokpomabo Awara of the African Alliance Congress, AAC, who garnered 173,859 votes, provoked divergent reactions from interested parties.
The Collation Officer in the state, Prof Teddy Adias said the registered voters for areas where elections were cancelled due to violence, including the entire Abua Odua and Gokana LGAs were inconsequential to Wike’s winning margin of 712,405 votes.
While declaring the result, Prof Adias said: “Today marks the end of an era that commenced on March 9, 2019, when Rivers people were mobilized en-masse to elect their governor.
” We’ll study report—AAC While the AAC agent, Nenye Kocha said his party would take a position on the outcome, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, agent and former Speaker of House of Representatives, Chief Austin Opara, urged Awara and his supporters to accept the result and join in building the state. The decision of what to do next can’t be mine to determine alone. The party will sit and take a position.” On his part, Opara said: “This is a victory for Rivers people. It is more trouble for President Muhammadu Buhari, as three more presidential candidates have separately approached the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, asking it to void the outcome of the February 23 presidential election.
In their various petitions, the three presidential candidates urged the tribunal to invoke its powers and quash the declaration of President Buhari as the benefice winner of the 2019 presidential election.
However, the petitioners separately alleged that the election was characterized by manifest irregularities, adding that the Electoral Act was not substantially complied with by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Political parties asking the tribunal to sack President Buhari and order a fresh election, are the Presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party, HDP, Chief Ambrose Owuru, whose petition marked as CA/ PEPC/001/2019, also cited the All Progressives Congress, APC and the INEC as Respondents. Owuru secured a total of 1,663 in the presidential election. In another petition that was registered as CA/PEPC/004/2019, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, Pastor Aminchi Habu, as well challenged the outcome of the presidential poll. Similarly, in its own petition marked CA/PEPC/003/2019, the Coalition for Change, C4C and its presidential candidate, Geff Chizee Ojinka, also urged the tribunal to nullify President Buhari’s election. Remarkably, unlike in all the other petitions, the C4C, which garnered a total of 2,391 votes at the presidential poll, cited the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as the 2nd Respondent in its case. It told the tribunal that its candidate, Ojinka, was validly nominated to participate in the February 23 election in order to secure votes to occupy the presidential seat.
“Petitioners contend that the above election was vitiated by substantial non compliance with mandatory statutory provisions, which irregularity substantially affected the election such that the 1st Respondent was not entitled to be returned as the Winner of the Presidential election”, the party noted.
The Justice Abdul Aboki led tribunal had on Wednesday, ordered that President Buhari should be served with a copy of the the petition marked as CA/ PEPC/002/2019, which was filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
Ekwe kuo Amagbaa news sourced that the tribunal directed that Buhari should be served with all the legal processes, through any senior officer at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Atiku and the PDP had applied to be allowed to serve the petition on Buhari via substituted means, decrying that retinue of security operatives at the Presidential Villa, made it impossible for them to effect personal service of the process.

Ikwerre is one of the native ethnic groups in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. This group is a subgroup of the Igbo people, some small minority for political reason now dispute this account, saying that their history was rewritten during the colonial period because of the Igbo dominated larger group. Ikwerre share common ancestry with the Ogba,and Ekpeye . They trace their origins to Owerri , Ohaji , Etche , and Ngwa areas of Igbo land. They are the majority in Rivers state; notwithstanding, there are other populations in neighboring states. Ikwerre speak the Ikwerre dialect, this dialect is part of the many diverse Igbo dialects, which is predominantly settled in the Ikwerre, Obio-Akpor , Port Harcourt and Emohua local government areas of River State. They are farmers, fishermen and hunters, in recent times, the environmental degradation and urban sprawl associated with oil exploration and exploitation has caused a sharp decline in the amount of farmland, forests and rivers available for their traditional occupations. A total of over 92 oil wells, producing an estimated 100,000 barrels of crude daily, located in Ikwerre land. Therefore, the Ikwerre play host to several multinational oil-producing and servicing companies, and many other industries and establishments. Offside these, the Ikwerre people like nearly all other minorities of the Niger Delta, usually complain of marginalization by the oil operatives. The University of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, the three campuses of the Rivers State College of Education, as well as the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, are all located on Ikwerre land. The history of Origin is considered by a majority of scholars as a subgroup of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria. There are several perspective theories of the origin, and the strongest and most widely accepted one is the theory linking the Ikwerre to an Igbo origin. The Igbo scholars take Ikwerre as part of the Southern Igbo. Amadi, an Ikwerre scholar, says that the Igbo origin theory has some support even inside Ikwerre themselves, with Ikwerre would be descendants of a migration of Arochukwu Igbo, with Okpo Nwagidi being the leader of the Ikwerre tribe. Therefore, before the civil war, there had been dissident voices that claimed that Ikwerre could have migrated from Owerri , Ohaji, Ngwa, and Etche areas of Igbo land South East Nigeria. But when Port Harcourt was taken over by Nigeria during the Biafra/Nigeria civil War and the Igbo people from other parts of Igbo land fled the territory, a UN report says that the Ikwerre decided to claim that the Ikwerre were non-Igbo for convenience and protection. The Ikwerre are recognized officially as a separate group in the 1979 Nigerian Constitution.
