Senator Kabiru Marafa has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a use-and-dump leader.

Marafa, who recently announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, APC, made the claim in an interview on Channels Television on Monday,September 1.

According to Marafa, the treatment of Nasir El-Rufai, him, and the erstwhile national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, proves his point that the President only ‘use people and then discard them.’

“Looking at the treatment of El-Rufai, the treatment of Ganduje, and the treatment of me, we are now convinced that Mr. President (Tinubu) is a ‘use and dump leader,’” he said

Marafa served as  Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Coordinator in Zamfara State during the 2023 elections, He announced his resignation from the party over the weekend.

He also vowed to cut one million votes from President Bola Tinubu’s tally in the 2027 presidential election.

“I’m going to assure you something today. I’m going to deduct one million out of Mr. President’s votes that he got in 2023. Mark my words. I’m going to do it. I would work for it and by the special grace of God, I’m going to win that,” Marafa declared.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that discussions about Peter Obi’s possible return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are detrimental to the party.

Some PDP chieftains are said to be making moves to woo the former Governor of Anambra State to rejoin the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election with a view to making him the party’s presidential candidate.

In separate interviews, two PDP leaders, the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, affirmed that the party is wooing Obi to rejoin the PDP.

However, speaking during a media chat on Monday, September 1, Wike dismissed the talks about Obi’s return, saying the ex-governor’s return to the PDP is dangerous and hypocritical.

‘’Bringing Obi to where? You want to k!ll the party the more? Some of these people don't have character. Obi that was abusing the party? That the party is rotten…so the party is good for you to come and run? These people's ambition can even make you to go to satan's house.

A former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that he won’t contest for any political office in the 2027 general elections, stating that his renewed involvement in politics was to support credible leadership at all levels of government.

El-Rufai made the declaration in Kaduna during the reception of new decampees from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Aliyu Bello.

The former governor said that his initial plan after leaving office in 2023 was to step back from partisan politics; however, recent developments, he noted, compelled him to return, not for any personal ambition, but to play a supportive role.

El-Rufai also took a swipe at the present administration, stating that Nigerians do not need further explanation to recognise its shortcomings.

He said, “This government does nothing but lie every day. I am not contesting for anything. I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not contesting for any position. That’s why I am calling on you, let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors.

“When I finished my tenure as governor of Kaduna State, I intended to rest but given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” he said.

According to El-Rufai, his focus now was to mentor and support young people, women and reform-minded Nigerians to take ownership of the political process.

He urged the youth in Kaduna to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise.

“In Lagos and Osun, at least 600,000 people registered. But in Kaduna, only 60,000. Anyone who is 18 years old should go and register, even with their phone. Registration is what gives you the right to choose who governs you”, El-Rufai said.

Publisher and politician, Dele Momodu, has condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, describing it as “the most reckless decision in the history of our nascent democracy.”

The party had on Monday, August 25 at its National Executive Council Meeting zoned its presidential ticket to the South ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Reacting to the development via his social media handle, Momodu accused the party of “shooting itself in the leg” by bowing to what he called “cheap and puerile blackmail” from opposition figures secretly working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun State, Oba Joseph Oloyede, has been sentenced to more than four years imprisonment in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States for creating and leading a scheme that bilked more than $4.2 million from federal loan and grant programs that were intended to assist small businesses with economic hardship they suffered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Oloyede, 62, who holds both U.S. and Nigerian citizenship and resides in Medina, Ohio, was sentenced to 56 months (4 and ⅔ years) in prison by U.S. District Judge Christopher A. Boyko on August 26, 2025 after he pleaded guilty in April to the following charges: one count of Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud, three counts of Engaging in Monetary Transactions in Criminally Derived Property, two counts of Making and Subscribing a False Tax Return.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio in a statement on Tuesday said Oloyede was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release after imprisonment and pay $4,408,543.38 in restitution.

He also forfeited his Medina home on Foote Road, which he had acquired with proceeds of the scheme, and an additional $96,006.89 in fraud proceeds investigators had seized.

Court documents show that from about April 2020 to February 2022, Oloyede and his co-conspirator, Edward Oluwasanmi, 62, of Willoughby, conspired to submit fraudulent applications for loans that were made available through the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Among these were the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, which aided small businesses that suffered financial hardship as a result of the pandemic with loans and grants.

During the investigation, agents found that Oloyede operated as a tax preparer and owned five businesses and one nonprofit. His co-defendant—and tax client—Oluwasanmi, owned an additional three business entities; all were incorporated in Ohio.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Ajiboye, has dismissed the capacity of opposition figure Peter Obi to perform better in office, insisting that even “a million Obi” could not outdo President Bola Tinubu.

Ina chat with Channels TV, Ajiboye criticised the former Anambra State governor, arguing that his record as governor did not reflect the credentials of someone capable of leading Nigeria.

“Bring a million Obi, he can’t do better, I know, I can even take a bet on it. What miracle will he perform in government? What miracle was he able to perform in Anambra?

Bring the records. How can you say he was successful in Anambra? He wasn’t. He was even much younger then. He was only chairman of a bank. Do you need to study Accounting and Finance to be the chairman of a bank?” Ajiboye asked

Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has expressed confidence that the president will record a significant surge in votes from the South-East in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s current affairs programme on Wednesday night, Bwala said Tinubu could secure up to two million votes from the region — a figure he claimed would be at least four to six times higher than what the president got in 2023. In the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu recorded 127,370 votes in the South-East.

“This is going to be like, I don’t know how to describe it, but let me take you zone by zone. You see the South-East, I guarantee you, President Bola Tinubu is going to get more than four times, if not six times, the value of the vote he got. He’ll get up to two million,” Bwala said.

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has decried the erosion of values among different strata of the Nigerian society.


According to him, many people in public office today were simply not well brought up, and so they go into office to loot the national treasury with reckless abandon.

‘’I think what has failed in this country is upbringing. The truth is that many people you have in public office today were simply not well brought up. When I was in Kings college in form 1 and 2, we had a class called Civics and it was taught the principal himself.

So from a very young age you were taught certain values. You were taught the importance of honesty and integrity, you were taught the importance of human rights, you know it's important to live a good name, you know that when you go into public office, it is an opportunity to serve. You do not go into public office to make money.

Many of the people that have assumed office simply did not have that upbringing, they did not have that training. Many people go into government for the wrong reasons.''

He said the Nigerian society must stop rewarding people who stole the nation’s commonwealth as public office holders with more public opportunities.

UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, has addressed questions about her nationality and identity, explaining why she “no longer identifies as Nigerian.”

Speaking on former MP and television presenter Gyles Brandreth's Rosebud podcast, she had said she was "Nigerian through ancestry" but "by identity, I'm not really".

Clarifying the statement in an interview with GB News, Kemi, who was born in the UK and spent part of her early years in Nigeria, acknowledged her Nigerian roots but stated that she primarily sees herself as British.

“It wasn’t quite what I said. But it is true. My main identity is British. That is how I see myself.

Former England and Barcelona striker Gary Lineker has claimed that several top European clubs backed out of signing Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen due to concerns about his character.

Before sealing a €75 million move to Turkish giants, Osimhen was one of the most in-demand strikers in world football. Premier League sides like Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly interested in securing his signature.

Media personality, Dele Momodu, has taken to social media to ask God to “deliver”  leader of the British Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch from “whatever might have traumatized her so much while growing up in Nigeria.”

He made the public prayer while reacting to a video in which Kemi said she went to a boarding school in Nigeria that looked like prison. In a fresh interview, Badenoch said that attending the Federal Government Girls College, FGGC, Sagamu, Ogun State, Nigeria, was a prison experience.

The British politician said she was made to cut the grass and wash the toilets with no running water, as a student.

“I went to a secondary school, it was called a federal government girls school in a place called Sagamu. And that was like being in prison when I tell the stories about using a machete and having to fetch buckets of water.

And that was the first time that I was away from home, away from my family. It’s a federal boarding school. And it was a dormitory with about 150 [girls] I think, 20 to 30 in a room. And there were, you know, six rooms.

The machete was for cutting the grass. Well, because, who else is going to cut the grass?

Award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has shared her deep worry about the current state of the country, saying what troubles her most is not statistics or market figures, but how ordinary Nigerians are struggling to survive.

Speaking in a recent interview, Adichie explained that life has become extremely hard, even for those who used to be considered securely middle class.

“I can see it in how people who were formerly securely middle class—and not that life was rosy for them, but they got by—are now people who beg and who are in need. That worries me greatly,” she said.

She described how skyrocketing food prices and the cost of basic needs have pushed many into desperation.

According to her, the true measure of political leadership is the daily reality of ordinary people, not economic indexes that don’t reflect on people’s plates.

“When people say the stock market, I don’t really care about that sort of thing. What I care about is that person who has an almost minimum wage job—how is that person getting on in this economy?”

Adichie also warned that prolonged hardship can push people into choices they never imagined.

“When life gets very hard, even people who before would not have considered certain things suddenly are willing to. And that’s dangerous for society.”

The Minister of Aviation an Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says that ahead of the 2027 general election, any presidential ticket where Peter Obi is made the running mate to Atiku Abubakar will fail and can never unseat President Tinubu.

In an interview with Channels TV on Sunday, August 3, Keyamo said if such a ticket is floated by the African Democratic Congress ADC, the Christians will not give them their votes likewise the South East electorates who voted massively for Obi during the 2023 general elections.

“This so-called ADC, in 2027, what they are working on is to bring Peter Obi and Atiku (Abubakar) together to join those numbers and beat our over eight million votes. Let me tell you why it is wrong. If you make Peter Obi the deputy to Atiku, three demographic factors delivered Peter Obi in 2023, but the three will collapse.

The other candidates were Muslims, and so there was only one Christian candidate, and the Christians went to one candidate. The South-East felt cheated, so the South-East went to one point because of the Igbo man.

And the third demography, the Obidients, young Nigerians who felt they were angry, they wanted a younger person and all of that because the other candidates were older than him (Obi).So those three demography delivered the 6 million votes Obi had in 2023.

Once you make Obi the deputy to Atiku, the Christian demography will pull out of that 6 million votes. Don't forget the President also has a pastor who is his wife and so that Christian demography will snatch some of them and increase our votes. Don't forget too that that South East demography that supported him, once it is Atiku, they will pull out. They will not support him.
