SportsMoyes: Van Persie Not Leaving. by Emmadex1(op): 10:47am On Dec 08, 2013
Manchester United manager David Moyes has
rejected claims by Mark Lawrenson that Robin
van Persie has asked to leave Old Trafford.
Pundit and former Liverpool player Lawrenson
made his observation in an interview on an Irish
radio stadium on Friday.
Given Lawrenson knows Moyes through a
connection at Preston, the comments were
noteworthy, even if United privately distanced
themselves from them.
However, offered the opportunity to respond
following Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by
Newcastle, when Van Persie returned from a
groin injury after a four-match absence, Moyes
did not mince his words.
"That is absolute nonsense," said Moyes.
"I don't know what harder or tougher word I
could say but that's as good as I've got."

SportsDavid Moyes: We Are In Transitiion. by Emmadex1(op): 7:44pm On Dec 07, 2013
Manchester United boss David Moyes admits
they are in a transitional period after Newcastle
condemned them to their second straight home
defeat for the first time in 11 years.
Yohan Cabaye's second half goal earned
Newcastle their first win at Old Trafford in 41
years and piled the pressure on under-fire
manager Moyes.
The defeat to Newcastle was Manchester
United's fifth Premier League loss of the season
and the reigning champions will find themselves
15 points behind league leaders Arsenal should
the Gunners beat Everton on Sunday.
Moyes was disappointed with the defeat and he
has called on the fans to give him time to get
things right at Old Trafford.
"There will be [light at the end of the tunnel]
because it is a transitional period and that was
always going to be the case," said Moyes.
"I hoped it wouldn't have been as poor as it has
been in the last few games. When I came here I
knew it was never going to be easy and it's
proved to be that way."
Moyes believes the Old Trafford faithful
understand the club's current predicament and
he has vowed to work hard to get United back
on track.
"I think the United supporters have been great
to me and great to the club," added Moyes.
"They understand there is a big transition going
on here and, like me, I don't think they expected
us to have lost five games at this stage of the
season. We didn't expect that.
"But I think they understand that there is a
change going on. We'll work, try to improve and
try to get better."

SportsEnglands Fears Realised by Emmadex1(op): 7:05pm On Dec 06, 2013
England's worst fears were realised today when
they were drawn in an extremely tough World
Cup group, playing in the venue they least
wanted.
Roy Hodgson's side were pulled out of pot four
by Sir Geoff Hurst in Group D, where they will
face Uruguay, Costa Rica and Italy.
The manager had said that venues rather than
other nations provided his worst fears for next
summer's tournament but England have got the
worst of both worlds.
They will play their opening game, against Italy,
in Manaus, in Amazonia, where the average
summer temperature reaches up to 33C and the
level of humidity is extremely high.
Having to play there also means that England
will have to travel vast distances too -
1,773miles, in fact, which is a five-and-a-half
hour flight each way - from their intended base
in Rio de Janeiro.
Before the draw, Hodgson said: "The tropical
nature of Manaus is the problem.
"Manaus is the place ideally to avoid. It will be a
difficult venue for everyone, including the
Colombians, but for northern European players
it will be a little bit harder."
England had avoided the worst case scenario in
the preliminary part of the draw: being the
unseeded European side moved from pot four.
Zinedine Zidane drew out Italy instead, moving
them into pot two, but the change gave England
short-lived relief when they were later pulled
out in the same group.
If England progress out of the group their
opponents in the last 16 will be from Group C,
which comprises Colombia, Greece, Ivory Coast
and Japan.
England's opening game will be played on 15
June in the only World Cup game which kicks off
at 2am British time.
They take on Uruguay in Sao Paulo on 19 June
and then play Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte on
24 June.
Here are the eight groups:
Group A: Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Cameroon
Group B: Spain, Holland, Chile, Australia
Group C: Colombia, Greece, Ivory Coast, Japan
Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy
Group E: Switzerland, Ecuador, France,
Honduras
Group F: Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran,
Nigeria
Group G: Germany, Portugal, Ghana, USA
