A three-year-old girl, Haliya Abolore, has died in the Gbagada area of Lagos State after she was allegedly made to sit on a hot water container by her class teacher, identified only as Maryam.
Mcebisco.com learnt that Haliya, who attended a private school on Idoluwo Street, Dosunmu, Lagos Island, was allegedly made to sit on the container on Wednesday, October 21.
It was learnt that Haliya, who suffered burns in her buttocks and private parts, was thereafter rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment.

It was gathered that the matter was reported at the Adeniji Adele Police Division, while Maryam was arrested.
The school proprietress, Mrs. Bose Shomoade, was also said to have been invited for questioning by the police, and made to pay parts of the treatment expenses.
Our correspondent gathered that Haliya, after two weeks, was moved to the Gbagada General Hospital, for further treatment. The girl, however, died on Tuesday.
Speaking with Mcebisco.com, Haliya’s father, Abolore, said he took the incident as a mistake on the part of the teacher, who knew the container had hot water, and made his daughter to sit on it.
He added that the school brought an undisclosed sum of money for the girl’s treatment before she eventually died.
He said, “She was first taken to the Lagos Island General Hospital. Later, she was taken to the Gbagada General Hospital. We have spent about N300,000 on her treatment. The proprietress gave us N5,000 on the day of the incident. One week later, she visited the girl. She gave some money to my wife’s mother.
“The school teacher has been arrested and detained after the matter was reported at the Adeniji Adele division. The teacher was careless. He knew the container was used to keep hot water and she still sat her on it. All my daughter’s private parts were burnt. She was asked to sit on a container containing hot water.
“My wife is distraught. She has been taken to our family house in Kwara State. Haliya is our jewel. We are so sad to lose her.”
The Coordinator, Lagos State Domestic and S*xual Violence Response Team, Mrs. Lola Vivour Adeniyi, said they had written to the state Ministry of Education to investigate the school.

A 22-year-old student of Delta State University, DELSU, was over the weekend r@ped by a mentally derailed man popularly called Theophilus at an ATM unit in Abraka-Delta state while she was trying to withdraw some cash.

It was gathered that the victim identified as Ejiro while waiting to use the ATM machine was attacked and dragged into a nearby bush by the mad man where he allegedly r@ped her. Report says her effort to getting the attention of those waiting to use the same machine yielded no result.

A group of batch B National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members have been involved in a car crash in Ogun state.

According to reports, the corpers who were just through with their 3-week orientation exercise, left the NYSC camp in Sagamu for their places of primary assignment in the state capital, Abeokuta. They had an accident on the Ifo-Ota road. The accident happened when a coaster bus on which the corpers were travelling collided with an oncoming Dangote truck.

Members of the Boko Haram sect attacked a village in southern Niger on Wednesday, November 11.
Reuters reports that the insurgents killed five civilians in their initial attack on the village located in the West African nation’s Bosso district.

Niger military officials revealed that at least 20 people were killed in subsequent clashes between the Islamist militants and the army.
One of the officers said that Niger soldiers drove back the militants, killing around 20 of them.

“Reactingly quickly, the government’s forces were able to push them back. Most of the Boko Haram elements have been neutralized.

“The situation is under control and we are carrying out clean-up operations,” he said.

Nigerian troops have rescued 338 people from Boko Haram Islamists.
The Boko Haram survivors who escaped from the terrorists’ main base, also known as Markaz placed in Sambisa forest, have narrated their ordeal.
They said that the insurgents have been deteriorated and are in anguish with only one safe route left for them to run from the army onslaught in the forest.

Daily Trust reports that one of the captives that survived in the camp of the militants said: “I have been with them (insurgents) for a very long time. How I survived under them all this while only calls for thanksgiving. We knew when they were going out for operation and returned with stories of destructions they did. Though General Buratai has never gone beyond Konduga this way, the news of his frequency to Borno has left the insurgents worried.

“The most terrifying news to the Boko Haram insurgents was when they learnt that President Buhari gave soldiers December deadline to end the war. The insurgents knew that the soldiers will do everything possible to flush them out.

“There was a time the soldiers increased operations in Sambisa and the insurgents ran from Markaz through Pirgi to Banki axis hoping to enter Cameroon but the Cameroonian soldiers had sealed up their border.

“All the insurgents that ran towards Banki had given up that they will be crushed by the Nigerian soldiers because they thought the Pirgi route would have been blocked. But they ran back to Markaz through Pirgi. If the soldiers can block that Pirgi route then attack Sambisa and the bushes around Banki, I am not sure there will be no insurgent left.

“Since Buhari became president, whenever there is news of planned attack on Sambisa, the Boko Haram insurgents around Markaz will always run towards Banki through Pirgi and stay away for some time. The insurgents knew that there are soldiers around Damaturu road or when running towards Konduga. Of recent, they have been kind with the captives in the forest may be because they are planning to use us as shield,” he said.

Some other survivors that escaped from the forest added that the Boko Haram sect is very much aware of the December deadline given to the army by Buhari to crush the insurgency and are ready for what they always called the last fight.

Nwabueze had gone to buy something but when he got to the shop, he saw the little boy playing alone outside while his mother was busy inside the shop and he quickly kidnapped him.
He demanded a ransom of N500,000 which was paid the next day. He however kept the boy in his custody, hoping to release him immediately after cashing the money. He succeeded in withdrawing only N120,000 through the ATM machine. When the ATM machine didn’t dispense the rest of the money, he was forced to go inside the bank to make a complaint. He was immediately nabbed by the police.

Confirming the arrest, the state command Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Andrew Enwerem said the arrest was made by the operatives of the Anti-kidnapping squad of the command following a tip-off. Enwerem said.

Lopsided Appointments: Afenifere fumes; warns Buhari against treating Yoruba with disdain

The Afenifere Renewal Group has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to make a strong “first impression” following anxious agitation across the country over recent presidential appointments.

The pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, in a statement Tuesday, signed by its Publicity Secretary, Kunle Famoriyo, said the appointments have created many confusing interpretations, instead of galvanising the country towards an expected course to rebuild Nigeria as charted in APC’s manifesto.
“While we call for the continued support of our people for Buhari’s administration, we also want to remind Mr President that Yoruba people have never been a cannon fodder and will resist any such treatment,”‎ the group said.

“ARG demands therefore a reassuring response from the presidency, especially in subsequent presidential appointments and decisions, because if this scenario continues to play out, it will be difficult to retain the trust and expectation that drove what eventually brought to reality the current coalesced federal government.”

‎As the countdown to Mr. Buhari’s first 100 days in office continues, there has been a growing outrage over his appointment of some key officials into his administration.
