Buhari Sends Ministerial List From New York Following his promise to unveil his ministerial list at the end of September, President Muhammadu Buhari has sent the list of his nominees through Senator Ita Enang, his special adviser on National Assembly Matters, who departed New York last night. The prized document should be submitted immediately to the Senate, which resumes from its six-week break on September 29, Tuesday. A top presidential source, who is the member of Buhari’s entourage, said the president who is currently in New York had already briefed the Senate president Bukola Saraki on the development, emphasizing that Ita Enang is expected to hand over the list to either the Senate president today, September 29, at the resumption of the plenary or tomorrow depending on the mood of the upper legislative chamber. Meanwhile, Buhari’s aide who departed New York for Nigeria, will not arrive Abuja before 3pm today, when the Senate would have completed its session for the day. Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has discharged as a family affair perceived misgivings between the party and President Buhari over the ministerial list. Femi Adesina, presidential media aide, told reporters that he would not be surprised if the list was ready. “I will not be surprised if the list is ready because it is within the timeline that the President gave. He said he would name his cabinet in September. Today (Monday) is September 28, so if it happens that it is ready, it is within the timeline,” he said. “The constitution already gives you an idea of the number of people that can be on the cabinet because it stipulates that we must have at least one minister per state.” The presidency had many times repeated its promise that the names of the appointees would be available this month and tomorrow is the last day of September. President Buhari is currently at the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York. He is expected to return to Nigeria on Wednesday, September 30, before the celebration of the Independence Day The list of politicians and technocrats expected to form the cabinet to be sent to the Senate include:... read on http://www.naijastoryteller.com |

ETHIOPIA V NIGERIA A match Preview by Emmanuel Ethiopia v Nigeria Football: African Cup of Nations Tuesday 29 January 2013 - Kick Off 5pm This game is live on TV PREVIEW This is part of the final games in Group C at the African Cup of Nations and all four teams are still in with a chance of qualifying for the Quarter Finals. Nigeria currently have 2 points from their opening games at the tournament, although it has to be said that they are not as good as some of their previous teams of recent years. However, they have left themselves in this awkward situation where they will likely need a win to go through because of their own concentration issues. The side have led both Group games they have played so far, both 1-0, heading into the final five minutes. However, Burkino Faso and Zambia both managed to level the games in those minutes and put Nigeria on the brink of elimination. The last draw against Zambia was particularly disappointing considering Jon Mikel Obi missed a first half penalty, before Zambia were given a contentious penalty in the last 5 minutes to equalise. It was a controversial ending considering the 'penalty' looked a soft one and certainly looked outside the box. While Nigeria will be very disappointed if they were to exit the competition at this stage, Ethiopia are playing in their first African Cup of Nations since 1982 and even getting to this stage was a bonus for them. They have earned 1 point so far from their 2 Group games and that means they have to win and hope Zambia fail to win their last game against Burkino Faso if they are to qualify. Ethiopia are the lowest ranked team in the competition, but the pride of picking up a point from their game with Zambia, despite playing with ten men for the majority of the game, has surely disappeared now. That could be down to the fact that they lost 4-0 to Burkino Faso in their last game, conceding 3 goals AFTER their opponents were reduced to ten men. It is clear that Sewnet Bishaw is just hoping that his side can show they are capable of playing at this level and they had been unbeaten in 4 games before the loss to Burkino Faso. The manager is all too aware that all the pressure is going to be on the Nigerians who have much higher expectations and they have been preaching about taking control of this match and making sure any late lapses in concentration will not be costly as it has in the first two games. HEAD TO HEAD These two nations played twice in 2011 in a qualifying group for the African Cup of Nations. Nigeria beat Ethiopia 4-0 at home, but it was a 2-2 draw in the second game that cost the Nigerians their place in the main competition. PREDICTION All the Nigerian fans must be vastly disappointed with the 2 point haul for their team in the Group so far, particularly as they entered the last 5 minutes of both opening games with the lead. I think it should be a different story when they meet Ethiopia, whose short comings were exposed by Burkino Faso in their last game. The games have not exactly been the most exciting so far, but I do think Nigeria will likely win this with a clean sheet to boot. THE PICK : Ethiopia 0-2 Nigeria |
