According to multiple reports, the transfer fee will be around £57m (€65m), breaking Man City's previous transfer record - the £55m paid for Kevin de Bruyne in 2015. The deal also makes Aymeric Laporte the second most expensive defender in the world. Laporte has been a regular since his Spanish top-flight debut in 2012 but is yet to play for France's senior side. He joined Bilbao aged 16 and has scored 10 goals in 222 appearances for the Basque club, as well as representing France 19 times at under-21 level. His arrival will provide Guardiola with a valuable additional option in central defence. Apart from the first-choice pair of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, the fitness of skipper Vincent Kompany has proved unreliable and Guardiola appears to lack confidence in the ability of Eliaquim Mangala. Announcement Official The 23-year-old joins the Club from Athletic Bilbao as Pep Guardiola’s sixth signing of the 2017/18 season and has signed a deal until 2023. Regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe, Laporte will take the number 14 shirt and is eager to help the Blues in their hunt for silverware. “I am very happy to be here,” Laporte declared. “City are a Club with a lot of ambition and they are one of the best teams in Europe. “I am looking forward to working under Pep Guardiola and trying to help the Club to achieve success. “It means a lot that the Club have shown faith in me and I am excited to get started.” Laporte is a left-footed defender, recognised for his calmness, strength and passing ability. He began his senior career with Bilbao in 2012, after representing their B side and gaining first-team experience with CD Basconia. At youth level, he began his journey with hometown Club SU Agen and French outfit Bayonne before making the switch to Spain. Impressed by his skill and potential, Bilbao quickly secured his services and he went on to become a first-team regular. In total, he clocked up 222 appearances for the Club, scoring ten goals. Also employed as a left-back, the Frenchman was named in La Liga’s 2013/14 Team of the Year. In the 2015/16 campaign, he helped Bilbao to Supercopa de Espana glory – their first piece of major silverware for 31 years. On the international stage, he has represented France at youth level. Txiki Begiristain, City’s Director of Football, stated: “We are delighted to have signed Aymeric. “We have assessed defensive options and he is a player we have admired for a long time. “With his quality and ability to play out from the back, we feel Aymeric will fit in perfectly with Pep Guardiola’s playing style.” Source : https://www.epldaily.org/news/c/0/i/19827496/man-city-complete-club-record-deal-sign-athletic-bilbao-defender-laporte

Arsenal are edging ever closer to reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. That is, according to BBC Sport reporter David Ornstein, who claims that a sum near £60 million is close to being agreed on between the two clubs as a late move continues to develop. Arsenal have been chasing Aubameyang’s signature for the duration of the January transfer window and want to recruit the Gabon international in swift fashion. The experienced forward has been subject to exclusions from the Dortmund squad on several occasions this season, mainly on disciplinary grounds. He was also jeered by the club’s fans as he took to the field in Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Freiburg at the weekend. Ornstein claims, though, that Dortmund will only sanction the sale of their star man if they can successfully secure the services of a replacement. They have previously targeted Olivier Giroud but it is unclear whether or not a deal will be struck for the Frenchman. Manchester City winger Leroy Sane suffered an ankle injury against Cardiff City in the FA Cup on Sunday. News of the issue came via football correspondent Sam Cunningham , as manager Pep Guardiola said the midfielder will be "out for a while." The Germany international joined City from Schalke 04 in 2016 in a big-money move, and plenty have been excited about his raw potential. Operating on either side, the 22-year-old can cut infield, link play and fire off shots. But he also has the pace to attack his marker on the outside and the versatility to play in a variety of positions. For Guardiola, Sane is an ideal man to have around the squad, and his youthful exuberance has added a refreshing edge to City's forward forays, particularly in partnership with Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling. Guardiola has a lot of options to call upon in the wide positions, including Sterling, Jesus and Bernardo Silva. The adaptable Kevin De Bruyne, while excelling from a central berth in 2016-17, can also do a fine job on either flank. With such quality in this area of the squad, an injury to Sane is unlikely to significantly derail City's momentum. Nevertheless, it'll be a major disappointment to the Etihad Stadium crowd that this bright young player has picked up a knock. Dimitri Payet has advised Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar to forget playing in the Premier League if he believes that defenders in Ligue 1 are too rough in their approach. Payet is now back at Marseille but enjoyed a successful spell in England with West Ham, while Neymar is still in his first year in France, having made a record €222 million move from Barcelona last summer. The Brazilian has reportedly complained privately about the heavy-handed attitude of defenders towards him since moving to the French capital, but Payet has told the 25-year-old it is something he will have to put up with. Asked if he agreed with such an assessment, the OM star told L’Equipe: “He better not go and play in England then! “I think that every team talk the opposing coach gives must focus on him. Unhappily, he takes the kind of blows that make him lose his rhythm because it’s one of the ways that he can be stopped. He’s a victim of his talent. “It happens to other players, like Florian Thauvin [of Marseille] and Nabil Fekir [of Lyon]. All the players who are specialists in dribbling and committing defenders are liable to be kicked.” Neymar, who will be allowed to join Real Madrid should PSG win the Champions League this season, helped PSG to a 4-0 win over Montpellier at Parc des Princes on Saturday. Meanwhile, Payet’s Marseille tackle Monaco in Sunday’s big Ligue 1 clash. Source : Epldaily.org For more premier league news & Videos

‘I really like to play down the left, through the middle… but to tell you the truth, as long as I’m playing football, I’ll fit in anywhere,’ Sanchez said. So the left was his first answer, though the man currently occupying that space has made a case for why he should not be ousted by Jose Mourinho. It’s been a clinical January for Anthony Martial, who only turned 22 last month. For the first time since joining United, he has scored in three successive Premier League games – against Everton, Stoke then the winner at Burnley. Each one of those was a screamer too. Last season, Martial might only show his quality once in a while. Now, he is going for the award of Most Improved at Old Trafford with nine goals and four assists in 22 games. Considering he has started only 13 of those 22, the Frenchman has taken his chances. He is the third-top player in the Premier League for minutes-per-goal involvement. After Sergio Aguero on 72.3 minutes and Mohamed Salah on 73.9, Martial is sitting pretty on 83.5. There is still plenty of room for improvement, such as in the pressing and passing departments, yet the youngster has shown a great deal of determination in recent weeks. Scoring in three straight league games while every man and his dog debates whether the new man in Manchester will steal your spot shows some steely focus. Martial has knuckled down and gotten on with business while his club brought in a player who knows his position well. Following the signing of Sanchez, Mourinho was asked where he would use him. The Portuguese said he can play on the left, on the right and in the middle, both as a striker or behind a frontman. He kept us guessing, in other words. The left wing was where Sanchez spent a lot of time over the last four years for Arsenal and it is a position he clearly prefers. It allows him to cut inside on his favourite foot – he has scored 47 with his right and five with his left in the Premier League – and to get involved in the build-up of goals. Sanchez knows how to do a job in the centre and spent time on the right in Barcelona, and Mourinho must consider how to use him but not upset the balance. United have not signed a 29-year-old on lavish £600,000-a-week wages to sit on the substitutes’ bench, after all. Their new No 7 started at Yeovil in the FA Cup on Friday and was used on the left while Martial was rested ahead of Tottenham away on Wednesday. Mourinho’s first Premier League XI at Wembley will be intriguing, to say the least. All this will leave Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata wondering whether it is their spots that are more in jeopardy than Martial’s. And from what we’ve seen this season, rightly so. Martial has had to fight to become one of the first on Mourinho's team sheet. Only Kevin De Bruyne and Philippe Coutinho (4) have scored more from outside of the box than him (3) and he has already more than doubled his league goals tally from last season. The youngster who was signed for £36million rising to £58m in 2015 has delivered in what must have been a testing month for him amid all this talk of Sanchez's arrival. Stopping Martial now could only kill his confidence and that is a risk United should be wary of running. More Premier League News & Videos On Epldaily.org

The Brazilian joined the French side in a £38m deal back in 2013. Since then, he has gone onto make 228 appearances for the club - scoring 45 goals and collecting four Ligue 1 titles in the process. But Lucas has fallen down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes this season following the big-money arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, meaning he is now being tipped to leave in the January transfer window. So who are the favourites to sign him before the window slams shut on February 3rd? Source: Epldaily.org

The Hammers were trailing Gomes, 24, last summer and were ready to swoop for him on transfer deadline day before Barca's demands proved too much. And new manager David Moyes has found a similar barrier as he looks to boost his midfield this month. Barcelona are looking for a fee of around £30million for Gomes, while West Ham would prefer a loan. The Spanish league leaders would consider letting Gomes move on a temporary deal — but would plan to include a compulsory purchase option if he starts a percentage of matches in the second half of the season. West Ham experienced problems with a similar clause for flop striker Simone Zaza last season before the forward had his loan cut short and moved on to Valencia. Gomes has started Barcelona's last two La Liga games but will fall down the pecking order again now Philippe Coutinho is nearing full fitness after his move from Liverpool. According to the Independent , Manchester United are keen to sign another key player from the Arsenal team – Mesut Ozil. Manager Jose Mourinho has been keen to renew acquaintances with the German international for some time, although excessive wage demands could prove a stumbling block. Ozil, who is out of contract in the summer, is reportedly seeking around £300k-per-week from a suitor, a figure that would see him on par with United’s highest-earning duo Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba. The report says Ozil is no longer a transfer priority for the Red Devils, however. The 29-year-old has been playing a move this season, scoring and creating 10 goals in 17 Premier League starts, while making 64 chances. Ozil has been an ever-present in the side, but he’s still yet to commit his future to the club which raises questions about his signature. Mourinho and Ozil worked together at Real Madrid in the past, and the Portuguese coach has long praised the playmaker for his talents. United have been linked with the midfielder for many months this season, and the chance to sign such a coveted creative player for free in the summer is almost too good to be true. Ozil is worth around £30m currently, and a bid matching that amount might get Arsenal’s attention. Unless the London club have been lining up a replacement, however, it’s unlikely they would entertain any more bids. Nevertheless, it doesn’t appear Mourinho is giving up Source : [/https://www.epldaily.org/news/c/0/i/19701328/manchester-united-consider-another-world-class-signing-arsenal]
