Ghaliz: They are actually paying it, it has steadily climbed from $2600 earlier in the war to $5k by late last year before some decline earlier this year but it is climbing again. They recruit a lot of ex military guys in Nigeria, the retired officers earn even higher. Just curious how you are so detailed in the mercenary payment structure. |

Exousiang01: If this happened in the UK, he would have returned to the clinic and it would be fixed Did he return to the clinic in Nigeria and the correction wasn't made, as it would have if it happened in the UK?
You lots demonize your country and then you blame the government when others insult your country. No one is demonising anything. You didn't read the story else you'd notice the procedure was done twice with same result. We all know nowhere is excellent but the fear of getting one's medical licence revoked gives no room for lackadaisical attitude |

YesDaddyTill203: People go to the dentist in the US and end up dead.
I currently know someone who had a tooth extraction in the US and is still having issues from the surgery. In fact, the man is getting worse by the day. People are praying for his quick recovery.
I also know people who went to Nigeria for medical services and are very satisfied.
People like you are the problem of Nigeria.
I went to Turkey for my crowns 4 years ago, and I'm very satisfied with the result. This was after I was warned not to try it by many US dentists. Such a thing happened in the US a d no one was sued? |

Exousiang01: You cannot base statistics on just one information too.
Thousands of people have done the same thing and they have good stories to tell. This is not a Nigerian issue. The fact that he had a it bad with a doctor or hospital doesn't mean it's the status quo. Even in the best places in the world people die in hospitals.
You lots need to stop demonizing your country. You want to tell me that nobody in Europe has had an issue with with dentist ever?
Make una dey use una head. I live in the UK and these things happen bro. Make una wake up Well he didn't call out the dental clinic he went to but I can bet if this happens in the UK, someone will definitely pay. |

Macphenson: Trust me a lot of smart investors will buy quickly. Scrap off the distillating chamber and install a Nano Technology based distillating chamber. Scrap off old pipes and fix new ones. If the reservoirs are ok, use them, if not replace them. A lot of smart investors are willing to pay now for that refinery. Not a petroleum engineer but if you are, how would the conversion take place and at what cost. Smart investors carry out detailed SWOT analysis before they jump in. |

The sad truth is if these kidnappers are highly connected, they will be freed and nothing will happen. The doctor has the done the right thing anyways. High profile cases don't work that way. lawani: If government floats a company and runs it profitably and is seeking investors via an IPO, then they will get investors. If an individual or group of individuals does the same they will get investors too. That is what I mean or why do you think the public won't buy into a profitable company? Which entity has the government in nigeria ever ran profitably? NITEL, NEPA, NICON, Airways, NNPC? Please which one to would generate that level of trust from diasporeans. |
Politics › Re: Why No Nigerian Leader Can Fix Power In One Year by erniok(m): 5:34pm On Feb 08 |
lawani: The private sector is doing ok and corruption is not a debilitating problem there. There is no country free of corruption. If any entity leads including government owned entities, people will subscribe if there is an IPO. I can recall saying any country on earth is free from corruption but there's a corruption index for every nation for a reason. The lobby system of the US for example is masked corruption. As it stands in our nation, the citizens still have a very low trust for the public officers which is as a result of corruption at pandemic level and this would definitely affect investment in public sector. |

TenQ: This is what they have projected as narrative to why they have been failing.
Nigeria needs 10GW, we generate less than 4GW.
Tell me, 1. Do we have the energy source to achieve this? 2. Is Gas-turbine technology Rocket Science?
Why do you think our politicians left the obvious problem of generation to face the problem of distribution? We have a serious power distribution problem is our hands. We have too much power losses like the OP stated. Let's not underrate that part. |
Politics › Re: Why No Nigerian Leader Can Fix Power In One Year by erniok(m): 1:16pm On Feb 08 |
lawani: If NNPC runs profitably for a while before the IPO people will invest. Even before that people can invest There is no way for government to harness diasporean funds for the economy than the way I stated. I'm glad you used the condition "if" which at this time sounds future impossible. Bro, we are too riddled with corruption. Our president just cancelled NNPC debt to the nation, no heads rolled and you think we won't witness it in the future? If dangote rolls out an IPO, You do not need government intervention before it's over subscribed. You can take this to the bank. |

Politics › Re: Why No Nigerian Leader Can Fix Power In One Year by erniok(m): 9:31pm On Feb 07 |
lawani: What is needed is just leadership which can come from government or the private sector. Diasporeans will invest in Dangote refinery when it goes public. Aradel or Seplat can do an IPO today to build a refinery and people will buy in and etc etc He was talking about government harnessing that potential which you and I know won't be trusted. Dangote is seen as a private individual and investors would expect a low corruption rate. If NNPC floats an IPO, would you invest? |

How old are you and how much education have you completed I guess I was a bit too quick to comment since you mentioned fg investing, thought it was another case of borrowing from dormant account idea they came up with back then but know that no one in diaspora will invest a dime in nigeria riddled with corruption. Gajagojo: State level power generation is not unrealistic
What is important is to have a plan It can be done in some states like Lagos, and several states in the Niger Delta
There is no requirement to put up the capital up front by government
Dangote did not put down 20billion to build his refinery He borrowed most of it
What is important is to create an environment where investors believe they can get their money back
That typically would be a payback period of 12 years in this industry
If the deal is right capita will come
Electricity cannot be fixed by government Just like the telephone system could not
We need private investors Government should look at how to mobilize and concentrate diaspora funds Nigerians send $20 billion home yearly maybe more
If they can invest 5 % of that in power it would be a game changer
The way forward is state or regional power generation and distribution
If Lagos state forgets about 4th Mainland bridge and focuses on power it will make sense I need to understand you. So if my siblings sends me funds from obodo oyibo, fg takes 5% as what na. |
