Ivan IV of Russia (Ivan IV Vasilyevich), also know as Ivan the Terrible, was the Grand Duke of Muscovy from 1533 to 1547 and was the first ruler of Russia and the first to be proclaimed tsar of Russia (from 1547). Historic sources present disparate accounts of Ivan’s complex personality: he was described as intelligent and devout, yet given to rages and prone to episodic outbreaks of mental illness. He enjoyed burning 1000s of people in frying pans, and was fond of impaling people. Ivan’s soldiers built walls around the perimeter of the city in order to prevent the people of the city escaping. Between 500 and 1000 people were gathered every day by the troops, then tortured and killed in front of Ivan and his son. He is also remembered for his paranoiac suspiciousness and cruel persecution of nobility. Ivan died from a stroke while playing chess with Bogdan Belsky on 28 March.

the councel of nicaen interesting, the claim of our they introduced the trinity into Christianity blah, blah, any ways am a protestant, don't care or believe in any "holy" holidays, they are all pagan, let's talk about the trinity. One of the most commonly held anti christain myths is that Christianity as we know it today was not invented until the fourth century, after the council of Nicaea in 325 A.D. The book, and recently released movie, The Da Vinci Code, makes this very claim (among other very bizarre assertions). Many say that the early Christian church thought of Jesus Christ as just a good moral teacher, and did not worship Him until the 4th century when the Trinity and deity of Christ was "invented." However, our examination of this question, using biblical sources, the writings of the early church fathers, and secular sources, will clearly establish that Jesus was worshipped as God no later than the early second century (113 A.D.). Citing all the biblical sources that claim Jesus is God is beyond the scope of this paper. However, other pages on this site examine these issues in detail. They can be found below: Even though many acknowledge that the Bible says clearly that Jesus is God, those people have claimed that the Bible was edited long after originally penned. Such claims fly in the face of volumes of documents written by the early church fathers, who cited verses liberally from New Testament gospels and letters in their own writings. Since many of these writings can be definitively dated to the first and second centuries, 1 such claims of rewriting are obviously false. Some of this evidence will be cited below. The earliest Aramaic-speaking Christians refer to Jesus as "Lord" in the earliest extra-canonical Christian book, the Didache , which scholars agree was written no later than the late 100s. The word "Lord" (Greek Kyrios ) was used by the Greeks to designate divinity. Justin Martyr, a second-century church father, baptized new believers in the name of the triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, acknowledging the equality of the three distinct persons of the Trinity. Pliny the Younger as governor of Pontus/Bithynia from 111-113 A.D. wrote (in his Letters 10.96-97 ) to Emperor Trajan regarding the early Christian church, their worship of Christ, and how he persecuted , tortured, and murdered them: "They asserted, however, that the sum and substance of their fault or error had been that they were accustomed to meet on a fixed day before dawn and sing responsively a hymn to Christ as to a god, and to bind themselves by oath, not to some crime, but not to commit fraud, theft, or adultery, not falsify their trust, nor to refuse to return a trust when called upon to do so." This example shows quite clearly that even the Romans knew that Jesus was being worshipped and wanted to "check and cure" "the contagion of this superstition" that had "spread not only to the cities but also to the villages and farms." 2 Although not as early as the Pliny letter, another secular source indicating that Jesus was worshipped as God before the fourth century was recently discovered in Megiddo, Israel. The discovery is a third century Christian church with a tile floor inlaid with inscriptions. One of the inscriptions was a tribute to Jesus, "Akeptous, the God-loving, offered this table for (the) god Jesus Christ, as a remembrance." Obviously, the discovery of a third century inscription calling Jesus God discredits the idea that Jesus was not worshipped until the fourth century (see Early (3rd Century A.D.) Gaddafithe2nd |

, Jesus encounters a Canaanite woman who begs Him to cure her daughter. Jesus initially refuses her request by saying, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs” ( Matthew 15:26 ). Taken out of context, and especially in English, it’s easy to mistake this for an insult. In the flow of the story, however, it’s clear Jesus is creating a metaphor meant to explain the priorities of His ministry. He is also teaching an important lesson to His disciples. Jews in Jesus’ day sometimes referred to Gentiles as “dogs.” In Greek, this word is kuon , meaning “wild cur” (Matthew 7:6 ; Luke 16:21 ; Philippians 3:2 ). Non-Jews were considered so unspiritual that even being in their presence could make a person ceremonially unclean (John 18:28 ). Much of Jesus’ ministry, however, involved turning expectations and prejudices on their heads ( Matthew 11:19 ; John 4:9–10 ). According to Matthew’s narrative, Jesus left Israel and went into Tyre and Sidon, which was Gentile territory (Matthew 15:21 ). When the Canaanite woman approached and repeatedly asked for healing, the disciples were annoyed and asked Jesus to send her away (Matthew 15:23 ). At this point, Jesus explained His current ministry in a way that both the woman and the watching disciples could understand. At that time, His duty was to the people of Israel, not to the Gentiles ( Matthew 15:24 ). Recklessly taking His attention from Israel, in violation of His mission, would be like a father taking food from his children in order to throw it to their pets (Matthews 15:26). The exact word Jesus used here, in Greek, was kunarion , meaning “small dog” or “pet dog.” This is a completely different word from the term kuon , used to refer to unspiritual people or to an “unclean” animal. Jesus frequently tested people to prove their intentions, often through response questions or challenges (see John 4:16–18 ; and 4:50–53 ). His response to the Canaanite woman is similar. In testing her, Jesus declined her request and explained that she had no legitimate expectation of His help. The woman, however, lived out the principle Jesus Himself taught in the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18:1–8 ). Her response proved that she understood fully what Jesus was saying, yet had enough conviction to ask anyway (Matthew 15:27 ). Jesus acknowledged her faith—calling it “great”—and granted her request (Matthew 15:28 ). So, according to both the context and language involved, Jesus wasn’t referring to the Canaanite woman as a “dog,” either directly or indirectly. He wasn’t using an epithet or racial slur but making a point about the priorities He’d been given by God. He was also testing the faith of the woman and teaching an important lesson to His disciples. |
