Emiliano Martínez would have been a great signing for Manchester United last season, and I genuinely think he could have had a similar impact to what Edwin van der Sar had.

United don’t just need a goalkeeper who can make saves ; they need a goalkeeper with personality, leadership, mentality and the ability to perform when the pressure is highest (same traits our GKs legend had VDS and PS). Martínez has all of that.

Van der Sar came to United with experience and immediately brought calmness, authority and a winning mentality to the team. Martínez has that same presence. He’s not perfect, but when the biggest moments arrive, he has repeatedly shown that he can deliver.

The World Cup, penalty shootouts, crucial saves, big-game performances, this is a goalkeeper who thrives under pressure.

Imagine Martínez behind a settled United defence commanding the box and giving the players in front of him that extra confidence.

For me, he would have been a very Van der Sar-type signing: an experienced goalkeeper arriving at the right stage of his career to give the team personality, belief and a genuine chance to compete for trophies.

He even helped the GOAT win his international trophies, with arguably the greatest save in football history and multiple crucial penalty saves.

Only someone with a seriously poor or even dead footballing brain would call Emiliano Martínez an average goalkeeper.

My comment was simply that I'd have preferred Martinez over Lammens, since that could've kickstarted the backline overhaul the same way signing an experienced keeper did back in 2005 after all the goalie heartbreak ( Caroll, Howard etc.) I don't know how that turned into 'that's why we lost today' or 'that's our major issue.'

I expect some bots to start tagging me every time Martinez concedes a goal or makes a mistake.

Lammens is not an issue, yes. Like I said, if we have enough cash to spend, there’s nothing wrong with signing another top GK to compete for the No. 1 spot.

Goalkeeping wasn’t an issue for Man City when they went from Hart → Bravo → Ederson → Donnarumma. But na the Glazers cause this kind of mentality at United, waiting for things to completely get out of hand before we fix them.

In 2011/12, De Gea single-handedly cost us the league with a series of errors, and Fergie responded by signing an attacker - RVP. That just goes to show that there are different ways to solve a problem; it doesn’t always have to be the most direct approach.

Those achievements you mentioned were four years ago. He's not the same Martinez of 2022. He was just there in 2026 world cup. Nothing special.

He wasn't just there, his introduction to the Argentina squad back in 2021 changed their fortunes, and he did the same this year, reaching the final.

He's arguably in an even better position than Van der Sar was 20 years ago: someone who just played a major part in Aston Villa winning the Europa League and reaching a World Cup final. Van der Sar, by contrast, was playing for relegation-battler Fulham when we signed him.

Again, I'm not saying Lammens isn't good. It's just a personal opinion/preference, the same way Harry Kane would have been a better signing than Hojlund, Zirkzee, and Sesko combined.
