The Imo state government says there was a misrepresentation in name of the new ministry of happiness. Rochas Okorocha, the state governor, had on Tuesday appointed Ogechi Ololo, his sister, as commissioner of the ministry.

Just like the statues he erected in the state, the development was met with criticism from Nigerians. But in a statement by Sam Onwuemeodo, his chief press secretary, Okorocha said the intended name is ‘ministry of happiness and purpose fulfillment’, not couple’s fulfillment.

He said a typographic error, caused by the printer’s devil, led to the misrepresentation, Sources has reported. In the statement, Okorocha also justified the essence of the new ministry, its purpose and the choice of his sister to head it.

Tricycle operators in Owerri, the Imo State capital, yesterday, laid siege on the Imo Government House, protesting the injuries inflicted on their members by officials of Imo State Environmental Transformation Committee, ENTRACO, trying to enforce government’s ban on Keke operations.


It was gathered from the protesting cyclists that over 10 tricycles were destroyed by the said government officials, just as some said they lost some of their valuables in the process.

They added that their tricycles were “snatched from them” and the little money they had made forcefully collected from them.

Yesterday, fuel supply situation in the country took a turn for the worse as queues of desperate motorists grew longer at many petrol stations selling Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, in Lagos, Ogun, Kwara and other states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.

Many of the private depots in Apapa, Lagos, where many marketers get petroleum products from for distribution to other states, did not have PMS while those who had were doing “skeletal loading.”

Fuel queues, which started emerging in some parts of the country on Monday after more than a year of relief from scarcity of petroleum products in the country, were seen spilling onto some roads in Lagos and Ogun states on Tuesday and caused gridlock.

The federal government job programme for graduates, has released six important things applicants must know.

The government had said the physical screening for successfully pre-selected applicants will hold between December 4 and 14.

The N-Power Volunteer Corps is part of the federal government’s Social Investment Programmes, SIP, under which it plans to hire 300,000 unemployed graduates in 2017.

The duration of the programme is two years and participants will undergo an initial induction training prior to deployment.

Physical verification stage is the process of physically verifying the age, gender, residential address and local government, academic qualification, and NYSC completion of applicants, the scheme said in its official Facebook Page on Friday.

A Federal High Court Sitting in Lagos has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani.

Presiding Justice Chuka Obiozor made the order of arrest following the failure of the former governor’s lawyer, to give any reasonable evidence as to why his client was absent in court.

Nnamani is currently charged with an alleged fraud of N4.5billion.

Nnamani’s lawyer had told the court that the former governor had undergone a heart surgery in the United States and this was responsible for his absence but the prosecution said the photographs brought by the lawyer as proof had been taken in 2014.

The former governor was to be re-arraigned before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged money laundering of N4.5 billion an offense said to have been committed during his tenure as Governor of Enugu State between 1999 and 2007.

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State had earlier on December 30 adjourned the money laundering trial of the former Enugu State Governor to today, Monday, December 4.

This move to re-arraign the former Governor is coming 10 years after he was first arraigned alongside his aide, Sunday Anyaogu, and six firms.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has fixed a date for the commencement of the sale of the 2018 application forms.

The spokesperson of the board, Fabian Benjamin, said this in an interaction with newsmen, Sunday evening.



According to him, registration fee is N5,000 while an additional N500 will be paid to obtain a compulsory reading text “IN DEPENDENCE” for UTME candidates and “The Last Days at Forcados High School” for direct entry candidates.

National President of ASUP, Mr Usman Duste, announced the suspension of ASUP strike on Wednesday during the union’s 14th National Delegates Conference at the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi state.

He said the decision to suspend the strike followed the series of meetings held between the leadership of the union and the Federal Government. According to him, both parties agreed to a Memorandum of Settlement and Action (MoS) on each of the issues raised by the union.

“The union considered the suspension to give an opportunity for implementation of the content of Memorandum of Settlement and Action, and shall be reviewed according to the timelines outlined in the MoS,” Duste said.

The decision to commence an indefinite strike was the outcome of the National Executive Council meeting of ASUP which held on November 11 at the Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State.

According to the union, the industrial action followed the failure of the Federal Government to implement all the agreements it entered with them since 2016.

Some of the demands included non-implementation of the NEEDS Assessment Report and shortfalls in personnel releases and withdrawal of allowances.

Others were non-passage of the amended bill of the Polytechnic Act, alleged infractions in the appointment of rectors, as well as improving the conditions of state-owned institutions among other issues.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in September 2015 in New York, as the successor to the unfinished business of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The innovative idea of goal oriented planning pioneered, by the UNDP Millennium Project during the implementation of the MDGs, gained traction in Nigeria when MDGs needs assessment and costing was used by Nigeria as a basis for a ten-year development strategy (2006-2015).

Across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) too, SDGs-based planning has become a major plank in the pursuit of pro poor policy initiatives in the fight against poverty.


Unlike the MDGs, the integrated focus of the Agenda 2030 and the SDGs require an integrated approach incorporating the cross-sectoral linkages of policies, trade-offs and policy-synergies.

This is evidenced in the number of SSA countries, including Nigeria, Malawi, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire that are currently undertaking integrated SDG policy design as a basis for scaling up public investments in social and physical infrastructure towards achieving the Agenda 2030.

While the SDGs are not legally binding, governments are expected to take ownership and establish national frameworks for the achievement of the 17 Goals. Countries have the primary responsibility for follow-up and review of the progress made in implementing the Goals, which will require quality, accessible and timely data collection. Regional follow-up and review will be based on national-level analyses and contribute to follow-up and review at the global level.

To this end, Inclusive Growth Unit is lead hire an intern to support SDGs implementation and monitoring. The intern will be supporting the State and Federal governments to design strategies for SDG implementation and data collection to ensure that SDGs is achieved by 2030 at both state and national level.

Eligibility

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
