According to a recent report by the Environmental Defense Fund, South Africa has the potential to become a major supplier of zero carbon fuels. The key factors identified in the report are the country's large renewable energy sources, geographical position, and economic development.

It is enough to supply the country’s domestic electrical demand as well as the production of zero carbon fuels to supply commercial vessels refueling in its international ports,” Aoife O’Leary, EDF's International Climate director, said.
