Matter of time: Ford is seriously thinking about Mustang electric sports car When the model can be transferred to electric traction is still unknown. However, a hybrid modification will be in the next generation.The legendary car began its history in 1964. The current, sixth, generation of the ponicar has been produced since 2015, the model was updated in 2018. The American company plans to introduce the next generation Mustang in 2021. It will receive the same platform as the next Explorer. Ford does not rule out that in the future there will be an electric version of the Mustang, although specific dates are not yet known. The fact that the company was thinking about the release of the Mustang electric sports car was told in an interview by Motor Ron Heyzer, the developer of the brand’s recent news – the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover. According to him, the future “outlet” muscle car will receive the same “cart”, which formed the basis for the Mach-e SUV. Ron Heyzer added that subsequently other cars of the brand will be based on it, optionally with the Mustang prefix to the name. The platform can be “stretched” and “shortened” if necessary, it is suitable for placing various types of batteries, as well as electric motors on either the rear or both axles. The engineer added that the thoughts on the release of the “outlet” Mustang are not related to the Lithium EV concept, which was created in conjunction with Webasto and shown at the SEMA tuning show in Las Vegas earlier this month. Recall, this car was equipped with a two-rotor electric motor of the Swiss company Phi-Power. Its output exceeds 900 hp, and the maximum torque is 1350 Nm. A feature was the presence of a 6-speed manual gearbox Getrag MT82. The concept sports car is powered by an 800-volt liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery (its capacity has not been disclosed). According to Ron Hazer, indicative plans for the creation of an “electric mast” are based on the assumption that subsequently the car market will switch to “green” cars. However, this is still not a prospect of the very near future, so, probably, the serial “outlet” Ford Mustang will appear soon.
