just confirmd.optometry is also in fac. of lyf sci. About tha indomie ish,dnt u think the more people eat indomie with its seasoning n go down wif glaucoma,the more lucrative our job become.without sick people,docs would be useless.

exactly! such a wide course should share a faculty with medicine like Dentistry does. I once saw a 400l optometry student reading, mehn! you need to see elaborate diagrams of laborious standards, more like those diagrams in anatomy where you can't even tongue the labels.

Lol. Some Optometry students wear lenses even though their sights isn't frail..

LOL,i read this twice.really insightful. I think one problem optometry is facing nigeria is publicity.very few people know what optometry is. A large percentage of the populace would still visit a 'DOCTOR' when they've got eye issues.they are oblivious of tha fact that there are specialists.Optometry has got potentials and is fast gaining ground as evidenced in the US where it is now the 12th most lucrative job.this is the US am talking about(where even drug pushing myt be considered as a job).i think in a couple more years,optometry will be up there

nice piece, even i was a bit skeptical abt d course.. I believe if people ar enlighten d mor, d course should gain more ground.. Rememba, the eye is most important part of d body,, dats after d brain ofcos..lol.. Tanx alot

no p.am a newbie too buh 4rm the little i know....optometry is just primary healthcare coz as much as i know,optometrists DO NOT carry out surgical operations EXCEPT on VERY FEW occassions.however,i think dentistry should be on the same rung as opthalmology.f abzgrace,plz come in on this

yea, its very true that dentistry is more revered than optometry.
And you know,optometry is not yet well known in nigeria.
To a layman,its all about cutting glasses.
And even in uniben,its hardly regarded as an important department.
Now,i dont want to wash its dirty linen in public so i wont say more (lol).
I once asked why it wasnt in the college of medicine like others or at least a faculty on its own.
The answer i got was; It wasnt as specialized as ophthamology.
Its in faculty of life sciences here in uniben,dont know about unilorin(that's why i asked.
Anyway,i find the course really very interesting {having to learn about the human eye and about lenses,curing some diseases and contacts,etc}
Hi Ray360 , i dont think its a general tendency for all optometrists to wear glasses.
Some final yr studs i know don't.
(although i do, not because of optometry tho. )
