Car owners especially in developing countries often drive with the low fuel indicator light on. Some drivers drive with faith hoping to take the car extra miles with the fuel light on. However, u put yourself at risk and also damage your vehicle with this practice. The following reasons are why you shouldn't drive around with the fuel light on: 1. Running out of fuel can damage your fuel catalytic converter. 2. Fuel acts like a coolant for the electric fuel pump, when your vehicle fuel runs low, it sucks air instead of fuel, which creates heat, and in turn cause your fuel pump to wear prematurely or fail. 3. Fuel also acts as a lubricant to the rotating part of a fuel pump, preventing the pump from premature wear. 4. Running out of fuel cause your pump to dredge sediments from the bottom of the vehicle, which can in turn clog your fuel filter and make less fuel available to your car engine 5. Fuel gauge shows an estimate of the amount of gas in your vehicle, it is not the actual measurement. 6. Moreover, It is dangerous to drive with the fuel gauge on, as you might end up being stranded in a deserted area or in the middle of a busy highway. It is even more dangerous considering the fact that most car airbags won't deploy when the car engine is off.
