With Barcelona winning the European champions league on saturday night in Berlin and Sevilla winning the Europa league last week wednesday in Warsaw, the Spanish La Liga has confirmed its superiority over the Premier league. Barcelona winning the title on saturday makes it the 15th time clubs from Spain have won the Champions league or European cup as it was earlier called. A breakdown of titles won by clubs from some of Europe's top leagues shows the following: Spain's la liga - - - - - - - - - - 15 times English Premiership - - - - - - - 13 times Italian Serie A - - - - - - - - - - 12 times Germany's Bundesliga - - - - - -- 7 times Going into the pot for next season's champions league will be 5 teams from Spain ( Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla). Sevilla will be in the champions league because they won the Europa league. I think Spanish domination of the champions league will continue next season. It could be a hat trick of titles for La liga clubs next season and their domination of European club competitions could also extend to the Europa league where they will also be going for a hat trick of titles. |
