A controversy surrounding VDM, GTBank, and EFCC has been dominating social media discussions over the past few hours. Many Nigerians, whether well-informed or not, have already formed their opinions and taken sides. Here are my thoughts on the issue, both biased and unbiased - and as they're my personal opinions,You're welcome to disagree with my views, but let's maintain a respectful discussion - no name-calling or abuse will be tolerated. VDM is allegedly viewed as a freedom fighter, and the specifics of his case against the EFCC remain unclear, as many of us are still awaiting details of the alleged offense. GTBank's involvement in VDM's arrest by allowing their premises to be used for the operation has sparked criticism, and convincing the public, including myself, of their claimed ignorance will be a tough sell. The bank's reputation may suffer as VDM's loyal followers have vowed to close their accounts with GTBank in protest. To mitigate the damage, GTBank should promptly address the issue, acknowledge their role in the arrest, and work to pacify their customers. The EFCC also needs to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding VDM's arrest, including the nature of the alleged offense and why such measures were taken. Transparency is crucial to address the public's concerns and questions The President should step in to ensure the EFCC conducts its operations transparently and lawfully, warning against arbitrary arrests and promoting accountability. VDM, as a self-proclaimed freedom fighter, should be aware of the risks and challenges that come with this role, especially in Africa where human rights and rule of law are often compromised. True freedom fighting in Africa goes beyond social media posturing or knee-jerk reactions to trending issues; it requires substance, strategy, and a deep understanding of the complex issues at play.Freedom fighting can come with severe personal costs, including loss of liberty, life (as seen in Dele Giwa's case), or even the lives of loved ones (as experienced by Fela Kuti). Once VDM regains his freedom, he'll face a crucial test: proving his commitment to freedom fighting by continuing his advocacy, regardless of when his release happens – be it in days, weeks, months, or years. As VDM continues his activism, he should anticipate further arrests and potentially even harsher treatment from those in power who may feel threatened by his efforts. I hope VDM emerges from this situation unharmed and stays committed to his cause. However, his actions so far haven't entirely convinced me of his activist credentials. Proudly Yoruba demon. |
He is a freedom fighter (allegedly) so arresting, detaining, torturing and even killing is part of been freedom fighters. |
