Virus Characteristics

Detection was added to cover for a malicious 32 bit PE file originally called "Raila Odinga.exe" , having a filesize of 97.579 bytes. The file is a nullsoft installer file.

Upon running, it drops and displays a picture file of "Raila Odinga", this is just an attention drawer. Apart from copying itself to the system Raila Odinga.gif  is also placed on the desktop and repeatedly opened.

In the meantime, the Raila Odinga.exe binary file is being copied silently copied to the windows directory and creates a registry entry to it:

   *  c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Raila Odinga.exe
   * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "(Default)"
       Data: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Raila Odinga

It drops an innocent file called "system.dll" having a filesize of 10240 bytes.

   *  c:\Documents and Settings\userxyz\Local Settings\Temp\nsf5.tmp\System.dll
   *  c:\Documents and Settings\userxyz\Local Settings\Temp\nsv3.tmp\System.dll

A link file is added as:
#  c:\Documents and Settings\userxyz\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Raila Odinga.lnk




Indications of Infection

   * Presence of a malicious 32 bit PE file originally called "Raila Odinga.exe" , having a filesize of 97.579 bytes
   * Picture file "Raila Odinga.gif" being placed on the desktop and repeatedly opened automatically in photo editor.


Method of Infection

   * Manual infection - there's no exploit associated to it


Removal Instructions

All Users:
Use current engine and DAT files for detection and removal.

Modifications made to the system Registry and/or INI files for the purposes of hooking system startup, will be successfully removed if cleaning with the recommended engine and DAT combination (or higher).

THis will sell decently, i suspect.
Not everyone needs video recording. and i strongly suspect that video recording can be added via software update. The hardware's already there.

of course it will sell but i am speaking generally.This a mobile that poses no probs to the Blackberry;not even to talk about the Apple iphone.

@donjon i think u are getting him all wrong; he wants to claim the phone back but needs to know the imei no through another means.That doesn't mean he has stole the fone.It might be given to him or bought i fairly used in a careless manner.

@poster; IMHO your phone is gone since you don't even have any document relating to it; what you should have done first is what you are doing last.

The first in product in a line of series usually don't do well.Imagine she excludes the video recording feature.I don't think she will do well in the market.Of course people would rather not buy what they don't need.Maybe pricing might help her.

Thats why i insist that when buying any flash drive; you try to get two pcs and test them by copying data of their sizes(4GB in this particular case) and check on the system if it really holds it.Most of them are fake.Or make sure you agree with the seller that it can be returned if it has got issues.Also make sure you buy from a shop and not hawkers or roadside sellers.
