Ile-Ife, an ancient town Osun State was yesterday thrown into turmoil as Yoruba and Hausa took up arms against each other in the Sabo area of the town. The Magaji of Hausa community in Ile- Ife and secretary to the central mosque in the town, Alhaji Nasir Magaji, said that over 50 people died in the fracas. A community leader in Ile-Ife, who identified himself as Chief Adewale Adejoba also confirmed that over 50 people died in the crisis. Magaji told journalists that many Hausa men fled the town for secured places to avoid being killed. “Those killed among us are more than 50 and the corpses of those killed were in front of Ife Central Mosque,” he said. The bodies had been deposited at the state hospital in Ile-Ife. It was learnt that trouble started when a Hausa man living at Sabo area of the town was accused of sleeping with the wife of an Ife man. The husband was reportedly devastated when he discovered that the man had slept with his wife.

Naira has continued on its four-day winning streak against the U.S. dollar on the parallel market yesterday to close at N480/$, stronger than the N501 to the dollar from the previous day, as the new foreign exchange policy actions introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) forced more currency speculators to sell off the greenback as sell rates fell as low as N460/$. Also, The buy rate of the dollar also increased yesterday to close N470/$, as against the N490/$1 at which it closed on Wednesday. In all, the naira has appreciated by N39 since Monday when the new FX actions were announced by the regulator. Information gathered has it that, as part of efforts made to sustain dollar liquidity in the market and bridge the gap between the interbank FX and parallel markets, and that Central bank auctioned another $230 million through forward contracts on the interbank FX market yesterday. It auctioned $370 million on Tuesday and sold $1.5 million on the spot market. Comments on the new FX measures, analysts at Cowry Assets Management Limited said the move by the CBN to increase FX availability to end users has been helped by the recent buildup of Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves amid increased crude oil revenues. “Given the improvement in the external sector, we anticipate that the new measures could pave the way for a gradual return of confidence in the foreign exchange market. “We also expect the monetary authority to do more to harmonize the exchange rates and thereby discourage arbitraging,” they added. In the same vein, Ecobank Nigeria noted that the new policy actions would also help to reinvigorate the hitherto illiquid interbank FX market. According to Ecobank, the decision to cap the settled rate for the retail transactions at 20 per cent above the interbank market rate and the restriction of school fees to university education only was a subtle way of partly controlling bank charges and manage likely FX demand pressure in the market. The bank added: “Over all, the impact of the circular could be short-lived, if the CBN does not show strong capacity to support the FX market with liquidity.” Also, Cyprus-based FXTM Research Analyst, Lukman Otunuga noted that with dollar demand for school fees payments overseas and personal travel allowance enforcing downside pressures on the parallel market, the move by the CBN to sell dollars to retail users via commercial lenders was logical. “While the policy may create some transparency, liquidity and efficiency in the Nigerian FX markets, this does not solve the overriding problem of multiple exchanges. source: http://www.weeklypostng.org/2017/02/breaking-osinbajos-new-policy-crashes.html?m=1

Nigerian soldiers fighting Boko Haram in the north eastern part of Nigeria are doing a great job. These men leave their families at home to sacrifice their lives for the service of the country so that others can live in peace. A good number of them have lost their lives in the fight against insurgency but they are still committed to their assigned tasks and responsibilities. The Nigerian Armed Forces is full of heroes who gave their lives for the service of our country so that people like me may live and prosper. Nigeria, the most populated country in Africa, is perceived to be the most corrupt among 60 corrupt countries evaluated, according to data from the 2016 Best Countries rankings. The rankings are a characterization of 60 countries based on a survey of more than 16,000 people from four regions. The USNews reports that in the survey, respondents answered how closely they related each of the 60 countries to the term "corrupt." Respondents were given no further specifications of the term, so interpretation of the word "corrupt" was left to survey respondents. Russia, seen as the second-most powerful country in the world, is also seen as the sixth most corrupt. Meanwhile, Colombia – a country synonymous with illegal drug kingpins like Pablo Escobar – gives Nigeria a run for its money as the second most corrupt country, based on perception. Below are the 10 countries perceived to be the most corrupt, according to data from the 2016 Best Countries rankings. source: http://www.omovibes.com/2017/02/breaking-nigeria-officially-becomes-no.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook&m=1

OSASUNA vs REAL MADRID Marcelo, Pepe, James, Carvajal and Modric are all back with Real Madrid after missing some games with injuries, but coach Zinedine Zidane might decide to keep them out of the starting lineup today as Madrid will play a very important Champions League match against Napoli next Wednesday, when they'll need to complete a very good performance and keep a clean sheet if they want an easier game when they travel to San Paolo for the return leg. Osasuna Predicted: XI: Sirigu, Berenguer, Tano, Oier, Vujadinovic, Clerc, Fausto, De las Cuevas, Causic, Riera, Sergio Leon. Real Madrid Predicted XI: Navas, Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo, Casemiro, Modric, Kovacic, Vazquez, Ronaldo, Benzema. Prediction: 0-2 (Ronaldo, Benzema) Osasuna are currently in the bottom of the table with just 10 points after 21 matches played. They are a weak team with plenty of flaws, but Madrid still have to play with determination and focus as El Sadar has never been an easy venue for Los Blanco |
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has said President Muhammadu Buhari cannot escape death as he is just but a mortal being. In an official statement by the General Secretary of JNI, Dr. Khalid Abubakar, The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has said President Muhammadu Buhari cannot escape death as he is just but a mortal being. The JNI noted that those spreading false rumours of Buhari’s illness and death were unpatriotic, and described as callous, mischievous, those promoting false reports that the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo was being pressured to resign. The Islamic group said it was worried over the several rumours regarding the trip of the President to the United Kingdom. The statement reads: “JNI is indeed perturbed over the series of rumours making the rounds on the state of President Muhammadu Buhari’s health. “It should be however noted that as with every mortal, illness is inevitable, likewise life and death. “Thus, JNI is very concerned about the pandemonium generated as a result of the rumoured illness of the President and the dimension it is unfortunately taking. “Those spreading the rumour will not live till eternity. We must as patriots, be cautioned on spreading inaccurate information. More so, Muslims should be cautioned not to join the bandwagon of rumour mongers. “Nigerians should instead pray for the President’s safe return, restoration of good health and the ability to continue with the task of piloting Nigeria to greater heights with all those in the positions of authority, for Allah’s guidance in the discharge of their respective duties. “We nonetheless, condemn in the strongest terms those calling for the resignation of Professor Yomi Osinbajo, as the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria. “Whatever, the intent may be, we see such calls as callous, mischievous and unpatriotic. Moreover, why must that vacuum be created now, if not for sinister motives? “We therefore call on all Jumu’ah Imams to include the matter in their respective Friday sermons tomorrow and beyond, because in prayers we find consolation,” the statement added. source: http://www.omovibes.com/2017/02/president-buhari-cannot-escape-death.html?m=1 |
A Facebook user, Aliyu Hashim has been putting up threatening posts concerning the rumors about President Buhari’s death. According to him, if President Buhari dies, they won’t spare Niger Delta, Igboland and even Obasanjo. He also went ahead to say the northerners are ready for war to divide Nigeria. He also insinuated that some northern leaders were killed by southerners, hence, the imminent war on Nigeria as a whole. source: http://www.weeklypostng.org/2017/02/just-in-hours-after-this-aboki.html?m=1

The former appropriation chairman for the House of Representative Abdulmumin has accused the speaker of receiving $600,00 from James Ibori. Jibrin, in a statement released on Saturday said the money was received from Ibroi while he was in prison at the United Kingdom, as part of his donation for Dogara’s campaign activities. The former approbation chairman said he has been silent lately because he was strategizing for better approach for his crusade against corruption in the lower chamber. “The propaganda and lies spread around lately by the axis of evil in the House of Representatives to water down my popularity shows how desperate Dogara has become,” Jibrin said. He also said it is a shame that Dogara has denied that the ex-convict gave him huge amount of money in support of his campaign for speaker of the House of Representative. “Since he has disowned Ibori, he should at least have the honour to return the $600,000 Ibori donated to his speakership campaign. I am sure he cannot deny the fact that he collected that money in cash, ” he said. But in his principal’s defence, Turaki Hassan, spokesperson to Dogara said no such amount was given to his boss. Hassan also said an earlier statement by the speaker had debunked such claims. Punch, it its report had also claimed that Jibrin has made attempts to broker peace between him and the speaker. Sources said the former chairman had in various occasions engaged some lawmakers to help with the peace initiative. While, his alleged efforts seem to have been futile, Jibrin had also sent a congratulatory message to Dogara on his 49th birthday. source : https://www.naij.com/1080324-how-house-rep-speaker-yakubu-dogara-received-600000-ibori-jibrin.html

1. Buhari may be killed – Father Mbaka
Earlier in 2016, controversial Catholic
priest and spiritual leader of Adoration
Ministry, Reverend Fr. Ejike Mbaka,
raised the alarm over what he says is a
plot to assassinate President
Muhammadu Buhari in 2016. He said: a
plot to assassinate President
Muhammadu Buhari in 2016. He said:
“Many people are planning, as it is
revealed, to kill Buhari. There are many
plans on how to eliminate his life so that
corruption, embezzlement will
continue....By the end of this year, Buhari
will expose the names of the people who
looted money meant for our roads. What
we are suffering now is the resultant
effect of the last malignant administration
that was intrinsically corrupt. What we
are suffering now arose from past
administration. But the Lord says there is
hope. Many people are going to suffer. We
should all get ready. But after the
suffering, we will all smile.” But throughout year 2016, there were no
reports of plots to kill the President. Also,
the president did not expose the names
of looters. Instead, Vice-President Yemi
Osinbajo explained that the government
did not name the looters because doing
so would jeopardize ongoing
investigations.
2. New STD will emerge — Pastor E. A.
Adeboye
Part of the prophecies that the general
overseer of the Redeemed Christian
Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye,
gave on January 1, 2016 was a new
s*xually transmitted disease would
surface in 2016. This did not happen.
The only new virus that made headline
last year was Zika virus - a mosquito-
borne flavivirus.
3. A woman will win US election — T.B
Joshua
The general overseer of The Synagogue
Church Of All Nations, T.B Joshua, got the
attention of everyone in the world when
he predicted that Democratic Party
candidate, Hillary Clinton, will win the
US presidential election but alas,
Republican candidate, Donald Trump,
won!
4. El-rufai will die if he doesn't revoke
preaching law — Apostle Suleiman
Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega
Fire Ministry declared that Governor El-
Rufai will die if he does not revoke the
controversial preaching bill he came up
with. During a service, Apostle Suleiman
expressed distaste over the bill, noting
that such amounted to suppressing the
freedom of religion. The state
government has not revoked the bill
although the noise over it has died down.
But el-Rufai is still living despite the
non-revocation of the bill.
Also, Apostle Suleiman predicted that
except Americans prayed, President
Barack Obama would seek third term
with a likelihood of the presidential
elections not holding. Well, you know the
end result as there was no such case of
desire for tenure elongation by Obama.
Obama even campaigned for his party’s
(Democratic Party) candidate, Hillary
Clinton, who lost to Trump. At no time,
before or during the electioneering was
any issue about seeking third term in
office raised.
5. The Queen of England may die —
Prophet Joshua Iginla
In January 2016, the general overseer of
Champions Royal Assembly, Prophet
Joshua Iginla, an Abuja-based pastor,
also had many predictions which cut
beyond Nigeria. Some of the predictions
came to pass while one of the most
controversial of them was that the Queen
of England may die.
He said: “The Queen of England should
pray for her health. I see strong challenge
and should pray to see the end of the
year.” The Queen had a spectacular 90th
birthday celebration in the year in
review with no major health issue.
Also, Prophet Iginla also said there will
be a major stampede at a religious
gathering in Zambia which would claim
lives. But in 2016, Zambia did not record
any ‘major’ stampede at any religious
gathering. Instead, it was in India that a
major stampede at a religious gathering
occurred.
6. Osinbajo may go missing after a meeting
— Prophet Muyideen Kasali
The general overseer of the Hour of
Mercy Prayer Ministry, Prophet
Muyideen Kasali, unveiled some of his
prophecies for the year 2016, on January
10. The blind prophet prophesied that
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo would go
missing after leaving a meeting.
Well, in the year in review, Osinbajo
toured the country and attended several
meetings on behalf of the president and
nothing happened.
Also, the blind cleric said the All
Progressives Congress would split into
four groups last year due to numerous
crisis and 'too much success'. Though
there was crisis within the party, the
party did not split into four groups
throughout the year.
7. Fayose will be removed from office,
Peterside will be Rivers governor - Prophet
Christopher Owolabi
The presiding cleric of Christ Apostolic
Church, Ori-Oke Irapada, Omu-Aran,
Kwara state, Prophet Christopher
Owolabi, said Governor Ayodele Fayose
of Ekiti state would be removed from
office in 2016 unless he prayed fervently
against it. He also said the APC would
win the governorship election in Rivers
state. But the opposites are what
happened. Fayose was not removed from
office, and Governor Nyesom Wike of the
PDP is still in charge of Rivers state. |
