I had a female employee one time...

I asked her to go on maternity leave. She refused. Infact, when the pregnancy was in the last trimester I practically begged her to take a break. Because I saw how hard she was working and felt pity for her condition.

I promised to give pay her complete salary if that was what she was worried about. But she kept coming up with excuses... She couldn't stay at home idle in her condition, she wanted to remain active, her family were known for being hard working even with pregnancy and when her mom was pregnant she used to go fetch water from a distance with the big bucket on her head... So many bla bla bla.

I left her... The last month of her pregnancy she blatantly refused to reduce her work load, even her fellow workers were talking to her to take her feet off the gas pedal. I never understood why she was so adamant.

Well, long story short she had a still born... Baby died and rot in her womb. She was lucky to survive according to her quoting what the doctor said.

I think they had to do some sort of evacuation of the dead baby from her womb.

The shocking thing was seeing her resume back to work less than a week after losing her pregnancy and going through what she did.

This time I had to insist and practically chased her away from the premises to go and rest.

Make nobody come implicate or "koba" me for wetin I no know Abeg!

Chaii.. my God. Blame their husbands for this. You did well by chasing her out of the office vicinity.
Some of these women think that by being pregnant and still working means they are strong and hardworking. But that's lie. It's the height of stupidity. if this colleague of mine collapses while on duty and the loses the baby now, what would people say about my place of work? Sometimes I blame the husbands for not stopping their pregnant wives from work.
Could it even be due to poverty or what? They feel they won't get paid when they are not working or what? In the sch I teach, once a pregnant employee goes on leave, she gets half salary till she's strong enough to resume and it's usually three months leave.

Hummm. I'm already a teacher here.
Can someone pls be kind enough to spare me something so I can get some food items to cook? I'm without a dime here. I'm sorry. Thanks

I have a pregnant female colleague who teaches Mathematics, Chemistry and biology. She's heavily pregnant, she's over six months gone yet she's still working instead of taking a maternal leave. Imagine the stress associated with this teaching job especially being a teacher of Mathematics where she has to climb up and down the school from Monday to Friday. She's currently pregnant with her second child. Her first child hasn't even started walking yet. I feel really sad seeing this. I would never on earth allow my wife to go through such. It's not like her salary is big.
I also teach mathematics for three classes(Jss 2,3 and SS 1) since we are yet to have SS2 and 3 while same woman teaches both arm of Jss1 and an arm of Jss2 plus Chemistry and biology for SS 1 science class. Sometimes I am being tempted to ask for her husband's number to speak with him, and to also tell my Boss to grant her a leave. I'm very close to my boss and he is a compassionate and empathetic Man who shows understanding in such situations.
