Gradual fading out of the fuel subsidy makes no sense, none at all!

This is so for two reasons.

1. The price of crude oil isn't static. Today, it can be $35 per barrel, tomorrow $80.

If at $35 per barrel petrol cost N200 litre, would it cost the same thing at $80? Nope. The price may hit N400 per litre/

So, if the if at $35, and the government was subsidizing it at N50 per litre to sell at N200, what happens when the price hits $80 per barrel? If the price of petrol increases to N400, government would have to increase the subsidy by N200 per litre to sell at N200 per litre.

2. eThe second is that the Naira is likely to depreciate in valu

In year 2000, Naira was going for $1-N100. Today, it is N1,600

Now, imagine you are the importer petrol. You bought a barrel at $35 in 2000 and at the same price this year.

A barrel in 2000 would cost $35 x 100 = N3,500 while this year it will be $35 x 1,600 = 56,000.

For you to sell at the year 2000 price today, won't you ask government to add to it? That "adding to it" is called a subsidy.

Thanks a lot. They all look intellectually brilliant. Only that you ignore a lot. Most of these leaders you choose only listen to their masters, that is why they make useless policies. Stability of a currency is achievable. Look Dubai currency for 10 years back and see if there is any huge difference with the dollar! Look SA money and some other stable economy. They are plenty. Of in fact some countries stability are over 20 years.

Did you know that your currency was devaluated? You borrowed a lot and run a dollar base economy. All these affects you. I no just get time to Dey type, for your eyes now subsidy na bad thing, but the countries you look up to do subsidies one thing or the other to make life comfortable. The subsidies were only bad cause of the corruption in it.


All these yr analysis would be needed if we are not producing the oil, but here we have the oil. Is just like because palm oil is $30 in international market, then it should be same price in Ibadan Nigeria. No be same fuel wey Iran Dey waste? Or Libya selling lower $0.032 or N52

The problem started from not refining our products ourselves. You forgotten that the country also run a petroleum base economy. Where petroleum determines production. You are now comparing yourself with countries that already achieved stable power.

Was there no gradual fading out of fuel subsidy during Obasanjo/Jonathon time. Devaluation and floating the Naira is what has led us here. 2 years, economy never bounce back! 4 years it will still be same story.

The most painful part is that we no see effect of the floating. The subsidy was taken from the people to the politicians. Either fuel or naira floating. The two favor that elites alone. I am now confused if Nigeria is a communist state, capitalist or socialist.

Nigerians currently doesn’t benefit from the country! This wasn’t the founding fathers intention.

Suffering and smiling

You are part of a reason the term backwardness is used for us! You would rather employ who has a certificate in a field than who has experience in the field? Maybe you need more schooling! In every profession there are training to be taught. Some profession are so flexible that you don’t need formal education to do it. 60 percent of Nigerian teachers are not educators! I guess they all need to go back to school and study education as a course? How many of your lecturers actually went through the faculty of education. I don’t have time to school you!

Terms like on the job training, in service training were originally used to describe professionals with basic qualifications but need the trained so as to acquire the requisite experience to make them better at their chosen profession. Those terms did not really apply to people who didn't have the basics in qualification. I know this because I have had to go through the system after my university education because I studied a professional course in the university.

I'm my field, your experience only counts after your basic university qualifications and you would be required to work and understudy a more experienced professional who would guide you as you climb the professional ladder.

People like you would be looking at jail terms if you think you can become a professional just because you are looking at how people do the job alone.

Rufai Oseni is rude, unprofessional and has zero ethics of journalism because he never studied the course in school.

I think you need to go back to school and study terms like ‘in service training ’, ‘on the job training’ and more. I am an educationist. Not all profession requires basic certification to practice. I must tell you journalism is one of the most flexible profession that anyone can grow a career.

Even if Rufai no study Journalism… with the years of experience he had, he is over qualified. Lere should stop attacking people’s personalities. He should answer questions for his boss.
