A second US warplane has crashed in the Persian Gulf region - around the same time a F-15 fighter jet carrying two crew members was shot down over Iran.

Tehran claimed it had targeted the A-10 Warthog attack aircraft in southern waters near the Strait of Hormuz. The pilot was safely rescued, according to US officials cited by the New York Times.

However, US forces are still hunting for one of the crew members of the F-15 warplane who has had a bounty put on their head by Iran. The other crew member has been found alive.

Pictures of what appears to be an ejection seat and other debris from the doomed aircraft have been displayed by Tehran's state media.

Videos circulating on social media appear to show American jets flying low over southern Iran as part of the search-and-rescue operation.

Other clips seemingly show Iranians shooting at the planes. It comes after civilians were promised a 'valuable reward' by a television anchor if they successfully bring in the pilots.
