Wonderful piece.
I remember when I was in school, some folks seeking to market their certification programme came around instilling fear in us that we would remain unemployable if we do not go for a certification in entrepreneurship . They told us of how employers now want graduates with entrepreneurial mindset and that we remain doomed without a certificate in entrepreneurship. A lot of students fell for that paying a whooping N5,000 for a 1 week training. Imagine if a 1000 students registered. That's cool N5 million in the pocket of the phony organizers. The certificate is in the cleaners now for all that subscribed.
Same thing when I was serving. All kinds of people coming with all kinds of offer for certifications. They sell youth corpers the dummy that they can only get jobs if they register for the certifications they are offering. All corpers fall for it easily.

Most of the people shouting that certifications are necessary are doing that for their own selfish reasons. Maybe they are one of the organizers of the several insignificant certification programs.

Syenite: U mean Physics with Production Technology option? Well breaking it down; Servicing firms employ physics graduates alot. They work as MWD/LWD Engineers, Wireline Engineers some are even Petrophysicists and Pore Pressure Engineers.And also Production technology (P. Tech) is d next big thing in d oil industry these days.

Sir, do non-technical grads have a chance in the industry? like social science grads e.g. economics, philosophy, business admin?
