Professors are not technicians, this applies all over the world. And the scientists you were talking about, who told you that they were out in the field with spanners and hammers building the nuclear reactors in Iran or in any other place? I mentioned earlier that our educational sector, like every other sector in Nigeria has issues...but that isn't because you have professors that can't fix broken down generators. Moreover, different field of studies require different approaches. What's required in theoretical physics differs from what's required in mechanical engineering and medicine.

Do you know how much the people you are using as an example spend on researches and education? How much do you pay your professors that you are expecting something extraordinary from them? Go and check the amount budgeted for education in Nigeria for 2025 and check that of Harvard university alone. Check and tell us what you discovered?

You are advocating for more grants, I know we have PDTF, TeTfund and some independent international grants, focused on individual gurus, still these universities are making a lot of money from various part time programs , some lectures in two or more universities on the side dictating notes only , for more money,
Some are more focused on printing businesses while other pay attention to their farms ,

The US took out two professors for their practical contribution to nuclear energy development in Iran , because they know and are useful in their fields in the practical field

How many Nigerians engineering professors has published engineering books used in other universities abroad unlike their colleagues in the medical fields that are doing well.
This is because all they know is theory not practical, you can’t teach buy going to classroom to dictating notes alone , it’s not sufficient

There is a Medical Prof in one of our university in Nigeria that buy foreign books, read, correct mistakes in those books and send the books back to the writers in advance countries, and he returns they do acknowledge and thank him, we’ll recognized , he was honored in the US years ago, we don’t have such in our engineering faculties, still the point I’m trying to make you understand

The problem of your country is not that you have too many professors. The problem is that you have few technicians and your education sector is underfunded. Professors don't build physical infrastructures , the design mostly. The two are different. There are no Chinese professors in Nigeria but technicians and laborers. Go and research how much it cost to fund researches. Who is going to fund those researches you are talking about.

The input of the professors should give birth to competently trained technicians, majorities of engineering professors here lack practical knowledge, you just don’t come to class dictate lecture note , Nigeria university should study German apprenticeship program for engineering courses

We are doing well in medicine because the students were made to learn on the job during their clinicals , but reverse is the case for engineering students, that’s my point

In technical field those designed to handle practical work are called technicians. Those below them to manufacturer the tools used by them are called craftsmen. Those above them are called technologist before the engineers at the top.
