Mission’s Appeal To sponsors especially Nigerian states governments and institutions, parents /guardians and students and University authourities in Sudan; the fast changing dynamics of studies and competitive academic pursuits in the global arena would suggest a rethink on how things can be done differently from this end. The Embassy once again is willing to continue its services through its Education Section to all .Please consult directly without the use of agents and respond in timely fashion to inquiries of this Embassy in order to usher in a win-win situation for all stakeholders |

Accreditations. This Embassy is yet to receive an updated official list of accredited universities and courses from the Federal Ministry of Higher education. Mission's request for such a list is pending. The information is important as it will enable Mission and home authorities sensitize students and parents on the suitability of schools and courses. Already the federal Ministry of education in Nigeria and organizations like the National Youth Service Corps and few employers have started turning down students from seemingly well-established schools in Sudan. As an interim measure the professional bodies in Nigeria especially Nigerian Dental Council and the Nigerian Medical Association have inspected most of the institutions and have reported to have found them of good standards. |

Regularization policies There are cumbersome layers of permits and approvals for stay regularisation, exit from Sudan and re-entry that do not even spare students. Although these procedures are applied across all nationalities, they affect a lot Nigerian students who are caught between requirements of compulsory class attendance and pursuit of regularisation papers in offices. There are instances of new undeclared regulations that come on stream often suddenly. This erratic form of policy administration have been of concern to Mission because of its disruptive effects on studies and added unbudgeted costs on students. |

3. There are diverse challenges that have set in recent years . Some of the major challenges that affect Nigerians include: Admissions The common problem here is that intakes or admissions are conducted through agencies or agents most of whom are of Nigeria origin. The absence of streamlined information and even formal registration for these agents and agencies has left ample room for abuses. There have been instances of rip- off and frauds committed against unsuspecting parents and students. Parents and students have lost fortunes often without possibilities of getting redress over these inter-state crimes. |

2. These universities that have emerged within the last 20 years are non partisan and have no religious biases such as in the case of older Universities .The only common challenge they face is that there is brain drain among the ranks of professors and teaching staff in Sudanese Universities. This is as result of huge wage difference especially in the oil rich Gulf countries in the neighborhood. In fact of recent some state universities in Nigeria for example Yobe has joined the porching spree and attracted some good number of these staff. The only mitigating factor for Nigerian students is that they are in privately funded universities that pays higher wages and therefore able to retain the staff longer. In addition the governing boards of these institutions are usually made of highly influential, some in western countries, who are able to attract staff on exchanges and sabbaticals from reputable institutions across the globe to these private Universities in the Sudan. Challenges of Specific Impact on Nigerian Students |
