PoliticsAmotekun And The Unity Of Yorubas by Gabkosh(op): 11:32pm On Jan 17, 2020
By Chidiebere Nwobodo

In the midst of the grandstanding, shenanigans, hullabaloos and controversy plaguing the Amotekun security initiative, one thing any keen observer should have noticed, is the impregnable unity of purpose amongst the Yorubas. All the stratas making up Odua nation are solidly behind the Amotekun Project. The governors put aside their partisan differences to bring this initiative to limelight. It is worthy of note that out of the six governors of Southwestern states, not even one has openly kicked against the outfit. It's reassuring! a great sign of hope for southern Nigeria.

Mind you, five governors out of six are among leaders of the APC (ruling party), yet they didn't allow their connection to the center jeopardize this timely idea to safeguard their people. I practically "fell in love" with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State after watching his brave and pragmatic analysis on Channels TV yesterday night. He did not mince words at all—he literally told AGF Abubakar Malami to "go to hell".

In his capacity as chairman of South-West governors forum, he marshalled out his points like a passionate leader that knows his rights, privileges and responsibilities. As a renowned SAN, he made nonsense of Malami's legal jargons. Femi Falana helped him on the program to flush it down the toilet. And let me remind you that Rotimi Akeredolu is a first term governor, who has re-election to face. What other indices of courage are you still looking for in a man? In fact, at this juncture, he has more to gain, politically, by standing by his people than aligning with the north in order to secure his second term mandate.

Afenifere and other socio-cultural groups in Yoruba land have rose in strong defence of Amotekun; calling the bluff of federal government. The Lagos/Ibadan Expressway media houses, under the firm control of the Yorubas have unleashed their media power in support of Amotekun. Influential columnists, opinion moulders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders of Yoruba extraction, have all thrown their weight behind Amotekun. Tell me how Fulani-controlled FG will not back-off? Yorubas just reaffirmed age-long philosophy that: there is strength in unity. No one, or group of people can enslave an indigenous people without their consent.

The Buharideens, Jagabantics of Yoruba land, who might not want to be openly identified with Amotekun project, for the gamble of 2023, are maintaining STRATEGIC silence. I call it "strategic" because AGF Malami and his Fulani hegemonic cabal in Abuja cannot force their illogical position down the throat of Yorubas, without the willing collaboration of traitors in their midst, slaving for the Caliphate. I salute the courage and unalloyed unity of Yorubas as regards Amotekun. You guys just won a war without a fight. The greatest wars are usually fought in the mind.

For the first time in a long period, a region unanimously stood up against arrogance of the north. Northern-controlled Presidency and its overbearing cabal, are not afraid of the local, though regional vigilante group called Amotekun, their nightmare is the unity of purpose and the audacious spirit behind the initiative. Not being able to recruit traitors—at least for now, that will kick against the project, amongst Yorubas, is the biggest vulnerability of the Fulani oligarchy today.

They are terrified that the same resilient spirit of unity that gave rise to Amotekun, could birth Oduduwa Republic; what they dread most—a disintegrated Nigeria. I think Ndigbo and other ethnic groups, especially in the South have something learn from Yorubas now. I use this medium to urge IPOB and Ohaneze Ndigbo to harmonize their ideological cum social differences and forge a common front as a people. Each group should come down from its highfalutin arrogance and hardline positions to achieve the level of flexibility we are seeing in the West today. Indeed, there is strength in unity.

chosengocap:
Over Buhari, especially between 2014 and 2019, no tribe
insulted me more than my fellow Yorubas.
In 2014/15 especially, if you didn't join them in selling Buhari,
you were either a paid PDP agent or you did not want the
progress of Nigeria.
They created the impression, especially those in diaspora, that
if you supported Buhari, you were GOOD. But if you opposed
him, you were EVIL.
On many occasions, I read people, my fellow Yorubas, saying
"your PDP paymasters."
I have quite a number of Hausa friends but it would surprise
you to know that these guys would just say "Said Baba" but my
fellow Southerners would call you names for daring to criticise
or write against Buhari.
After the Elections
Buhari won and my people "retained their jobs". The "duty" of
defending Buhari was carried on their (Yorubas')heads. The
MORAL SUSTENANCE of the Buhari Presidency was
championed by same us. No one called us wailers more than
our fellow Yorubas.
"Get over your loss" was said to me severally.
The first set to rediscover their brains did not do until after the
Fall of 2016.
Close to 2019, many sold their brains back. Some of those
who were criticising Buhari reverted to default mode.
Suddenly, the song, "Atiku is a thief", rented the air again.
I asked a cousin of mine who was always claiming he couldn't
vote Buhari again but started rooting for him why he was
doing so and he said he had the right to change his mind.
He was right.
Just like the North was right to say Amotekun is illegal.
The crowd of "think-Osinbajo-vote-Buhari" has fizzled into air.
If it was the Southeast that started a security outfit like
Amotekun and the FG declared it illegal, it is Yoruba's Buhari
e-slaves that would have been defending the pronunciation by
the AGF.
The North never saw the Yoruba race as a stakeholder in the
Buhari Presidency. We were used as tools to give legitimacy
and an intellectual slant to a campaign that would have been
rudderless but for the Tinubu's propaganda machinery.
They used us to sell a product that would have been gathering
simmering dust in the shelf of political redundancy forever.
Those abroad caught the bug while those at home demonised
their tribal compatriots.
As Amotekun is destined to be dead on arrival, we can look
back and cry for a race that chose to hold the short end of the
political stick while the longer end remained un-held.
Obafemi Awolowo, Adekunle Ajasin, Dauda Adegbenro, Ooni
Adeyemi, Abraham Adesanya, Olaniwun Ajayi, Francis
Adekunle Fajuyi.
I can see these men shedding tears as they watch helplessly a
race they gave their all but chose to sell its soul.
And the tears won't dry soon...

PoliticsRe: Amotekun: Ebonyi Said South-West Governors ‘Stole’ Their Security Idea by Gabkosh: 1:11am On Jan 14, 2020
[s]
celeiyke:
The Ebonyi State Government on Monday said it was the brainchild of Operation Amotekun security outfit in the South-West that was launched by governors in the region last week.

It said governors in the South-West region ‘stole’ the security idea from it, saying, “When the Governor of Kano State, muted something about this kind of security architecture in the South, recently,” he was referring to the South-East geo-political zone, in particular.

According to the State Government, until the launch of Operation Amotekun, last week, governors and leaders of the South-East zone, had had elaborate and far-reaching security meetings on how to curtail insecurity in the region, saying the South-West zone only ‘borrowed’ a leap from its South-East counterpart, in its establishment.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, Mr Stanley Emegha, stated this in a telephone interview with our Correspondent, in Abakaliki, on Monday.

Emegha, who disclosed that governors and leaders of the zone, last year, appointed Gen. Obi Umahi, to coordinate the security architecture of the region, added that much was being done to mitigate all forms of insecurity in the land.

According to him, by the end of January, the security efforts and plan of the region would have been made clearer. He added that the creation of the Ministry of Homeland Security, in Abia State, was one of the moves being made by stakeholders, to reduce crimes in the zone.

“The launch of Amotekun in the Southwest is what is already in vogue in Ebonyi State, in particular, and South-East, in general. This is so because traces of insecurity like kidnapping, car- snatching, armed robbery, etc are no longer found in Ebonyi State.

“The actual region the Governor of Kano was talking about for this security initiative, is the South-East, not the Southwest. What they have done is they have just copied what is already in existence in Ebonyi. This kind of security strategy is being put in place and has been made possible by the South-East Security Consultant, Gen. Obi Umahi (retd). But we have been silent about it because we are waiting to launch at the right time.

“Security as a technical endeavour, and that was why many efforts of governors of the zone in this regard, had not been made public. Security is a very serious thing. No dull person can be a criminal. Those who go into criminality are smart and intelligent persons. So we downplay what we do because we don’t want those we are targeting or fighting to cash in on our strategies.

“This is why we don’t disclose some of the things we put in place, in order not to create room for the criminals to strike. Currently, all the happenings in virtual all the Discos in Abakaliki metropolis, are monitored in our server room. Nobody knew when we mounted those cameras and CCTVs.”
[/s]Not surprised at all. Na so their children are claiming to develop the whole world.
