lilflipnerd: Now Obj's Quote seems to b accepted by Tan OBJ has criticized every past regime and head of state apart from Buhari's. He did not only not criticize Buhari's regime but went on to sing praises about the man. Given that Buhari was a serving Minister of the Ministry of Petroleum during OBJ's tenure as a military head of state where $4billion went missing under his Watch, it will be safe to state that Obasanjo's criticism stops where his shady past starts. |

Despite its relative autonomy in those early years, NNPC was hopelessly inept. In the wake of allegations of massive fraud, including an improper withdrawal of more than $4b from the corporations accounts in the late 1970s, the newly elected President Shehu Shagari (1979-83) in March 1980 instituted a tribunal to probe allegations.
NNPCs oversight and regulatory role over the industry was virtually non-existent, due to a combination of low capacity, sheer inaction, and simply a proclivity of the corporation to break the law.
Agreements with IOCs lay around for years without ratification, and the IOCs often acted as if the corporation never existed. NNPCs accounting system was an unmitigated shambles; the corporation had never prepared and submitted audited accounts.
The industry under NNPC up to 1980 was so dismal that the tribunal even with its full judicial powers to subpoena witnesses and information could not reconcile crude oil production and sales figures from the various arms of government. The panel recommended the pruning of the power of NNPC and the streamlining of its operation for increased efficiency.
The limitation of the panel is underlined by the tribunals failure to summon Generals Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari, who as national ruler, and oil minister NNPC chairman respectively supervised the NNPC and controlled oil sales during the period in question. http://bakerinstitute.org/media/files/page/9b067dc6/noc_nnpc_ugo.pdf |

"Muhammadu Buhari as a member of the SMC & as the head of the petroleum dept was by nature taciturn & introvert. But he took any work given to him very seriously & if he failed at whatever he did, it would not be because he did not put his best, in fact, his very best. He was as reliable as he was hard working & HONEST" – Olusegun Obasanjo ("Not My Will", University Press Ltd., Ibadan, 1990, Pg 59) Why Buhari no go honest for your eye? |

Amaechi's VP ambition is no secret so also is the fact that Amaechi is one of the chief financiers of the APC.
Amaechi was not only instrumental in a Buhari nomination but alo for the re election of Rauf Aregbesola by sponsoring his campaingn and even going further to use Rivers State resources to offset a backlog of unpaid salaries owed by the APC led government which was heavily indebted and in the red.
Now that his ambition has been dashed with the choice of VP going to the SW this should serve as a reminder and notice to the SouthSouth of how the APC, north and southwest view the region as a place where they go to get money.
If Amaechi for all his antics and money can be used and dumped without regard how then will these people treat the average man, woman and child from the SouthSouth?
How will our agitation for environmental and ecological degradation by oil companies be treated?
How will the lingering issue of full resource control be treated by these same set of people?
Only una know the answer to my question.
Hope that Amaechi's adopted Hausa and Yoruba brothers in the APC would have taught him that blood is forever thicker than water. |

Curlieweed: All I can say is that you were smarter when you were younger. What could be responsible for this?
Regarding the highlighted, have you ever heard of the term "stolen crude"? Regarding your second psuedo-economics point, if the jobs are created near the source of the crude, they won't really be jobs? Would they?
And here you are talking about sentiments. Out of it's 30 odd years of existence, how many years of full operation has it actually achieved? Even in the US which is a net importer of crude, majority of the refineries are located either within the source or in proximity to coastal ports. Building a refinery in Kaduna was and still a waste. What would have sufficed would have been building depots serviced by networks of pipes conveying refined fuel. |

omenka: The lies being peddled by a section of the media, some of whose agents are here on Nairaland, is staggering. This is the umpteenth time one would deal with this issue. I think it's about time to let it rest. Some people are hard-wired to denounce the truth whenever they see it or hear about it, they thrive in lies, filth, and of course darkness!!
I wouldn't bother joining issues with anyone who imagines that Buhari deserves no credit for the establishment of some of the refineries we have in this country. I know what I know and no amount of uncanny alterations and propaganda can dent the squeeky clean reputation of the People's General.
God bless APC. Congrats! You just did the near impossible task of stringing words together without making any sense. |

Obiagelli: I think the argument had always been about 2 refineries, warri and Kaduna.
In my opinion, he was massively involved in both refineries and he actually started the Kaduna refinery and finished the warri refinery. He also was instrumental in the birth/transformation of the NNPC.
You may not like the dude but his achievements (over exaggerated at times) speaks for him.
MY OPINION. Did he supervise the work or was the construction carried out by NNPC engineering dept? Was it not contracted to a foreign company? |
