ActivateKruger: With a spree of cash-in-transit heists taking place around the country, we need more of these guys. Yes, but more importantly we need a functioning and depoliticised crime intelligence unit which is the most important component with regard to CIT and other high risk crimes. |

jln115: Hornet RDRV(Rapid deployment recce Vehicle) do you understand the bolded?? Nothing you said above has any relevance to how the Hornet RDRV is actually used!
The Hornet is a SFs vehicle NOT and i repeat NOT a troop transport!! We don't use soft skin vehicles to transport troops......That's why we have thousands of Mamba and Casspir!!
Bangui was an example of how the Hornet should NOT be used......as was said 1000s of times, However saying that it still preformed extremely well and not a single SFs operator was injured in Bangui! According to Battle of Bangui by Helmoed Heitmann three SASFB operators including their commander Lechoenyo were injured in the intial skirmishes with Seleka? |

Frumentius, I saw some troops using black unmarked Mercedes Vitos "assaulting" some insurgents in a white Mercedes Sprinter....are these COIN units or Military Police? They are the unit that was outside parliament that caused all the consternation |

Not the hullabaloo nonsense you guys are spamming my mentions with. Not pink, but a very bright red. One of the boffins will have to take this further just know it's their traditional boot with non-marking soles?? |

This is what I saw at the CSIR stand at AAD, didn't notice the cammo wasn't standard though. Pretty intriguing and on that particular poster the helmet had those DEVGRU type night vision goggles. Hopefully no unrest in Lesotho soon. |

Henry240: It's an avenue for the police to generate income. In Nigeria you can hire a police team for a period of time. We don't have armed private security guards here. Although there are many private security companies operating in the country, they aren't armed with lethal weapons.
The actual big guys, those Nigerians who employ thousands of Nigerians in their firms get security from the state .
It's not actually a status thing, and there jobs they aren't allowed to do. Ah I see, but I saw a recent interview with Femi Otedola and he had his own private security from what I could tell. Even the daughter had her own private security in Lagos. So they wouldn't be armed? Is there a reason why they aren't allowed weapons. BTW that guy on Instagram handle is @inspiredautos and he doesn't appear to be incredibly rich and the reason I thought it might be linked to status was because he uses the police sporadically, but thanks for clearing that up. |

A South African soldier was killed on Monday in a rebel attack in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Another critically injured South African National Defence Force soldier was evacuated to hospital in Goma with a colleague who sustained minor injuries.
Four rebels were killed in the gunfight that broke out when members of the Mayi Mayi and Allied Democratic Forces groups attacked the SANDF position near Butembu around 6.30am‚ said spokesman Brigadier-General Xolani Mabanga. RIP hope they snuff out the rest of those rebels. |

kikuyu1: THAT SELECTION IS HARDCORE BY ANY STANDARD! Even military much less police. I doubt any law enforcement org anywhere trains like that. I just passed the Special Task Force IN ACTION by a Shell garage just off the Samrand off ramp in Tshwane! Some were dropped off by a chopper and others by vehicle, seems like a CIT heist to me as there were atleast 8 suspects sprawled all over the scene. Although couldn't tell if any were shot. A lot of onlookers from local businesses, jisses! Apologies for lack of photos as I was in car, so passed the scene in a hurry. Definitely spotted the unmistakable STF cammo |

MikeCZA: Because they were "bad people"!
PR exercise! Similar docie was made of the SASFB. So you mean it was approved because the new government thought they were evil units? I never picked that up. What I have always found ironic is that Eugene de Kock was rejected from the STF, which was supposedly his dream unit, but walked right into Koevoet. So STF has historically done purely police work. |

GreenandGold: They should mount a GoPro just for a single shoot out, the video would go viral.. We're hungry for action. These guys bust brains open and don't get to show us. Not fair. Yes! And I stand to be corrected, but the actual operators probably wouldn't mind. I mean even Spetsnaz is all over the internet and what I don't get is that the last documentary was made in 1996, plainly it's ridiculous that we can't get an insight into STF operations. |

frumentius: At the height of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, yes. Recruitment by private military contractors depleted the ranks but the situation has somewhat stabilised since then. Can't divulge figures but let's just say this: used to be Jozi and Cape Town bases which had full complement and operators had to fly if needed elsewhere.
Now it's bases in most of the metros. We're still losing operators to PMCs (and to the bloody PPU CAT, which doesn't want to train its own! -my STF mate insists I put that down) though, across all of our elite units. Thanks for that insight, I took that figure from an article about Marikana. Believe a colonel disclosed that number some years back. Wish they could do even a 10 minute documentary for old times sake |

giles14: what an irony.one of the best in the world and you can't lower your country's crime rate(one of the highest in the world, internationally known).
and pls if you check my post I never mentioned Nigeria. what i mentioned is Algeria and Tunisia.
so when it comes to ego nobody do it better than you south Africans(we are best in everything) . They number no more than 99 across the country in a police force of over 150 000 officers, so naturally they'll never intercept every common crime let alone every CIT/ATM heist, but they're incredibly proficient at their work. They're well resourced and led by great leadership however the wider police force has serious personnel issues. But for ordinary SAfricans like myself successes like these make me proud. |
