Properties along that corridor were getting flooded. The fear was that the entire VI would eventually be flooded and overtaken by the sea and it was getting worse and worse.
I still remember vividly visiting Nigeria in the year 2000, the road off the coast (Ahmadu Bello Way) was flooded hence most cars had to turn back for fear of getting sweapt away or having the cars stalled in the ocean water.
