Hassana was only 12 when her mom gently pushed her into a deep ditch in the backyard one morning in August 2014. The push was not to kill her, but instead to save her from being becoming a child bride to the Boko Haram foot soldiers who had just invaded their hometown of Madagali in the northeastern Nigerian state of Adamawa. Since 2009 when the death of its founder Mohammed Yusuf triggered the insurgency, hundreds of women and girls have been abducted, sexually violated or killed outright even as the sect continues to wage war against perceived ‘Western ideals’ including education for youngsters like Hassana. In April 2014, the high-profile abduction of over 250 schoolgirls from the village of Chibok in the neighbouring Borno state made the headlines. The capture of many other girls remains under the radar; some of those released have admitted to suicidal thoughts, due to the trauma of living – and being sexually and physically abused – in the terrorist camps with the Sambisa forest base. Girls aged 15 and younger have also been used in carrying out suicide bombings in the worst hit Borno and Adamawa states. Knowing all of this, Hassana’s mum, the 47-year old Zainabu Hamayaji hatched a plan to outsmart the terrorists as well as save her four children. Her instincts warned her that Boko Haram would consider Hassana, her eldest daughter to be of marriageable age and would kill her husband. She was soon proved right. “They killed my husband and many of the men here”, she tells this reporter in a school-turned-camp in the mountainous town of Gwoza, declared by the insurgents as the seat of their caliphate in August 2014. “Some of my children ran off but the rest of us could not leave the house because they were killing people running out of town. So many people were dying and couldn’t escape.” Hamayaji loosened her hair to look mentally unstable and began to roll on the floor for several hours a day outside our house and in various parts of town. She urinated on herself. She defecated on her clothes. Then she rubbed both all over her body. Her neighbours avoided her just as flies swarmed to her. The Boko Haram extremists were sceptical at first. They had come knocking after a villager mentioned that Hamayaji had a daughter old enough to be carted away into captivity. She denied it and for that, they beat her mercilessly, dislocated her shoulder with their guns and knocked out a tooth from her mouth. “They didn’t believe me so they came every day. I continued to strip myself naked, unplait my hair, roll in trash, put shit on my hair to make it seem like I was really mad.” Still, she stuck to the script she had written – and so did her two young children. “They asked my two children if I was okay because they kept doubting me”, Hamayaji reminisces. Both kids – aged seven and ten – swore that their mother’s insanity had begun a while ago and that she used to frequent a psychiatric hospital in Maiduguri, the state capital. “My children would cry as they were talking and the terrorists became afraid of hurting a mad woman so they don’t have a curse on their heads.” Driven by that fear stemming from a ‘precedent’, the insurgents inscribed a warning on the house to deter their Boko Haram comrades who might subsequently visit, from attacking the Hamayajis. “They believed that if they killed a madwoman or took her child, their military operations would fail. One of them reminded the others about how their people killed a mad woman on another raid and her curse affected them badly.” Many of the other women gave out their daughters to the insurgents in exchange for food items and property stolen from other villages so they could take care of their remaining children – some reluctantly and others happily. But Hamayaji was unflinching in her resolve and methodical in her madness. While in the ditch, Hassana cooked the food items that her mother had pushed in along with several jerry cans of water and matchboxes for her to cook and survive. She defecated in nylon bags that decomposed around her. Outside in the compound, her mother continued her class act for nine months until Nigerian soldiers recaptured the town in March 2015 and helped bring out the young girl from the ditch. “The soldiers asked if I was a wife of Boko Haram and I said no”, she recalls. “They didn’t believe my story until we went to the ditch.” Hassana, now 14, was profuse in her gratitude for the depth of her mother’s love even though the older woman does not believe her actions were extraordinary. “She told me, Mama na gode (Hausa for ‘thank you’). You saved me. Thanks for your wise choices or I’d have been dead.” The soldiers put them in a vehicle that brought them to the Gwoza camp. It is here that Hamayaji tells her story without breaking into a smile at all. As if by habit, she peers intermittently beyond the large bullet holes in the wall to watch the open yard where children, including hers are playing. Young Hassana is wandering somewhere within the camp, celebrating the Eid festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. “We are safe now”, she says, even though her worry is still clear to see. “We are safe.” Source: http://springsbury.com/the-story-of-the-woman-who-countered-extremism-with-her-own-extreme-measures/

A 98-year-old mother has moved into a care home to look after her 80-year-old son. Ada Keating and her son, Tom, have always lived together as Mr Keating never married. He moved into the Moss View Care Home in Liverpool in 2016 because he needed more care and support and one year later his mother followed to help look after her eldest son, the Liverpool Echo reported. “I say goodnight to Tom in his room every night and I’ll go and say good morning to him,” Ms Keating, a former auxiliary nurse, said. “When I get back he’ll come to me with his arms outstretched and give me a big hug. You never stop being a mum.” Mr Keating, who was a painter and decorator, said he was happy to have his mother at the care home. “They’re very good here and I’m happy to see my mum more now she lives here.” Care home manager Philip Daniels said the pair are inseparable. “It’s very rare to see mothers and their children together in the same care home and we certainly want to make their time together as special as possible,” he told the Echo. http://springsbury.com/mother-aged-98-moves-into-care-home-to-look-after-80-year-old-son/

A dangerous driver killed a five-year-old boy in a horror smash, then married his mum. Twenty-three-year-old Dean Collins seriously injured four others when he crashed head-on into another car in Cardiff, Wales. Witnesses saw Collins, in a borrowed grey Ford Focus, overtaking other motorists and pulling quickly away from traffic lights. He then drifted across the road into the opposite carriageway and collided head-on with the other vehicle, a court heard. He caused the death of his partner Laura Bright’s son, Joseph Smith. The youngster was pronounced dead at the scene. Laura, who sat in the front passenger seat of the car at the time of the tragedy, suffered bleeding in her brain. Part of a tooth was also found in her windpipe. But despite the crash, she and Collins wed just months later, Wales Online reports. The pair even posed in their wedding outfits beside Joseph’s grave. During his trial, Collins said the couple had “kept each other sane” as they grieved for little Joseph following the tragedy. He said he saw Joseph as his own son. Collins had passed his driving test just three months before the collision, which took place on September 13, 2015. Other victims suffered a range of injuries, including fractures to the spine, arms, legs and ribs, memory loss and blindness in one eye. Collins was seen holding a mobile phone to his ear prior to the smash. He had also taken cocaine. During Collins’s trial, Cardiff Crown Court heard that Joseph had not been strapped into a booster seat at the time of the crash. He broke his neck because his seat belt was in the wrong place. The court was told that the little boy was actually six inches too short to be made to sit without a booster seat. Janet MacDonald, prosecuting, said: “Joseph suffered serious injuries including broken limbs, fractures to his spine, bleeds to his brain, bruising to his spleen, a perforated bowel, and loss of sight in one eye.” The child died at the scene of the smash on Western Avenue. Yesterday (Tuesday), a jury had unanimously convicted Collins of the five charges against him following a five-day trial. He was found guilty of causing Joseph’s death by dangerous driving and four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to six years behind bars by Judge Eleri Rees. The judge told him, ” You demonstrated a cavalier attitude to both your own safety and the safety of others.” Collins was also disqualified from driving for eight years. http://springsbury.com/dangerous-driver-kills-five-year-old-boy-marries-his-mum/

"I have been told that I have marine spirit aka mamiwota. Which is ironic because I can’t swim. What type of mamiwota is that that can’t swim? A rubbish mamiwota that is. I have tried to learn how to swim and have had probably about… 50 classes in different London boroughs? I remember when I lived at Ealing, I did swimming lessons. I think I also did when I lived at Neasdon. I definitely did when I moved to Thamesmead. I think I will just get private tuition now. This is what happens when I am being taught to swim – the teacher tells me that I have to relax in order to be able to float. At first, it is difficult to do that so, I cling to the side of the swimming pool for dear life. The teacher coaxes me and gradually, I start relaxing and with more coaxing, I feel myself relaxing and floating so, I let go of the side of the pool and I am really relaxed and floating. Then my brain shouts ‘BUNMI! ARE YOU CRAZY? YOU ARE IN DEEP WATER AND YOU CAN’T SWIM! YOU WILL DROWN!’ And of course, I start panicking and start tensing up and start floundering and going under the water and the teacher will quickly leave the other students to come and attend to me before they have a casualty on their hands. That is what happens. Every. Single. Time! So, isn’t it strange that I have mamiwota spirit and can’t swim? How do I know I have mamiwota tinz? Ah ha! B’on se’n bi ni niyen. That is how we ask persin. I followed my friend to a church. A popular Naija Penticostal church here in England. Her church was having a visiting minister whose anointing was deliverance. So, I went with her. So, we were asked to come out for deliverance sha. I went and the man of God laid his hands on me. That was how o, I started feeling one kain one kain. Before I could say Jack, I was on the floor!" You will not believe what happened next... http://rednaira.com/bunmi-the-rubbish-mamiwota/

If you had to guess the number one cancer killer of women, what would you say? Breast cancer? Cervical Cancer? Here’s a shocker: Lung Cancer kills almost twice as many woman as any other cancer. And according to a recent survey by the American Lung Association (ALA), only ONE percent of women cited lung cancer when asked to name cancers that affect women. No wonder ALA is advocating for an increase in funding for lung cancer research. And together with CVS, they’ve launched a new movement called Lung Force, dedicated to raising awareness of this deadly cancer. First up on their agenda: ending the sale of cigarettes at all CVS stores by October 1, 2014. Huge news, right?! Award-winning television and Broadway actress Valerie Harper was thrilled to join this powerful campaign. After being diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, she was surgically cured, but the cancer returned in 2013. At that time, doctors told her she had just months to live. “It was a shock, because I never smoked,” says Valerie. Now a year and four months later, Valerie is ready to raise awareness and remove the stigma associated with lung cancer. “[They say] ‘Oh, you smoked, huh?’ I go, ‘No. I’m in my seventies, and I never smoked a day in my life,'” says Valerie. “But there’s second-hand smoke, there’s radon, there’s behavior, and your genes.” Yet nearly half of more than 1,000 women in the recent survey said they aren’t concerned about getting lung cancer, because they never smoked. It’s a damaging misconception that needs to be corrected, says Valerie. But even though lung cancer is certainly possible in non-smokers, ditching cigarettes is still the best thing you can do to lower your risk. “We’re here because women should not be dying in these numbers and with so little research funding,” says Valerie. “It’s getting better all the time. It needs to be getting better faster.” How to prevent Lung Cancer - http://gocare.ng/prevent-lung-cancer/ |

Within the last 365 days, at least 4 Nigerian celebrities have died as a result of same kidney disease. I want to show you how to avert this menace of kidney disease. Very easy and effective. And don't forget that there is no copyright on this. So feel free to share, copy and disseminate. Here are the top 6 Causes of Kidney Disease: 1. Delaying going to a toilet Keeping your urine in your bladder for too long is a bad idea. A full bladder can cause bladder damage. The urine that stays in the bladder multiplies bacteria quickly. Once the urine refluxes back to the ureter and kidneys, the toxic substances can result in kidney infections, then urinary tract infections, and then nephritis, and even uremia. When nature calls – do it as soon as possible. 2. Eating too much salt,You should eat no more than 5.8 grams of salt daily. 3. Eating too much meat. Too much protein in your diet is harmful for your kidneys. Protein digestion produces ammonia – a toxin that is very destructive to your kidneys. More meat equals more kidney damage. 4. Drinking too much caffeine Caffeine is a component of many sodas and soft drinks. It raises your blood pressure and your kidneys start suffering. So you should cut down the amount of coke you drink daily. 5. Not drinking water. Our kidneys should be hydrated properly to perform their functions well. If we don’t drink enough, the toxins can start accumulating in the blood, as there isn’t enough fluid to drain them through the kidneys. Drink more than 10 glasses of water daily. There is an easy way to check if you are drinking enough water: look at the colour of your urine; the lighter the colour, the better. 6. Late treatment . Treat all your health problems properly and have your health checked regularly. A new test by the makers of the First Response pregnancy test, which promises women that they can find out “6 days sooner” than other leading pregnancy tests, has just launched their new product line, the Male-Response pregnancy Test, which can actually tell a man if the woman he slept with has gotten pregnant. “Our new line of tests is the most advanced in the world,” said company spokeswoman Jeanne Curtis. “Normally, a pregnancy test can only tell a woman if she is pregnant within a day or two of a missed period. We know that’s not good enough for the guy who likes to raw-dog it with a one-night stand. So we invented a new test for men. The man just has to urinate onto the stick first thing in the morning following sexual intercourse, and the test will let him know if he did, indeed, ruin his life the previous night.” According to lab technicians, the new test works in a unique way. They claim that a man who has sex with a woman who he has gotten pregnant picks up some of her hormones through his penis and they are stored in his urethra. During his morning bathroom stop, those hormones are released onto the stick, and he can tell – probably even before the woman – if she has gotten pregnant. “When a woman pees on our stick, it has to be a few days after a missed period to actually be accurate,” said Curtis. “Not the case with the Male-Response stick. These new tests will tell a man within 24-hours if he has impregnated a woman, giving him ample time to flee the country, change his name, and disappear.” The new product is set to launch nationwide in October. No word from the developers if multiple tests would be needed for orgies or swinging parties. In the meantime, men are urged to wear a condom when having sex, or at least pull out and aim for her face. Source: http://ecruzi.com/new-male-pregnancy-test-can-inform-men-woman-slept-pregnant/

A doctor in Tennessee has admitted to performing the wrong procedure on a newborn baby without consent, and now the child’s parents are unsure of the infant’s future. Nate was born at the University Medical Center in Lebanon , Tenn., and was “perfect, healthy and beautiful,” according to the child’s mother, Jennifer Melton. Shortly after Nate’s birth, an employee at the hospital took the infant for what Melton thought was a routine physical. When the baby was returned a few hours later to Melton, a nurse told her he underwent a procedure. “The nurse started to mention the procedure they had done [and] that they had clipped his tongue,” said Melton to WTVF News. “At that point I began to cry hysterically.” The procedure performed on Nate was an frenectomy, which in this case was the cutting of the flap located under Nate’s tongue. This is done, usually on a newborn, when there is a restriction of movement of an organ, therefore allowing more mobility. However, Nate’s tongue was normal. “Essentially they took our child who was healthy from the room and cut his mouth,” said Melton to WTVF. The unidentified doctor, who performed on the baby, has admitted to his mistake and wrote in a progress report: “… I had asked for the wrong infant. I had likely performed the procedure on an infant different than the one I intended to … and I admitted my mistake and apologized.” Melton’s attorney said the apology doesn’t right the doctor’s wrong. “There is no excuse on operating on the wrong baby, none,” said Clint Kelly, Melton’s attorney to WTVF. “It’s recklessness. There’s no excuse for cutting on a healthy child. There’s no excuse for mixing up babies at a hospital.” It’s unclear what the lasting impact, if any, on Nate will be. “We don’t know if the child will have speech problems or eating problems. The concern here is this was a healthy baby that was supposed to leave the hospital, but instead was harmed by the hospital,” said Kelly to WTVF.

A bill seeking a two-year jail term for any person who makes allegation or publishes any statement or petition in the newspaper, radio or medium of whatever description against another person, institutions of government or any public office holder, passed second reading in the Senate, yesterday. The bill also prescribed that anybody or group of persons who send any false text message or post false message on the social media against another person shall be jailed for two years upon conviction by the law court. The bill, tagged: “A Bill for an Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and other Matters Connected therewith”, sponsored by Senator Ibn Na’Allah, APC, Kebbi South, compels petitioners to accompany their petitions with sworn court affidavit, failure of which attracts a six- month imprisonment upon conviction. But the bill provides for an option of N4 million for persons convicted of false newspaper, radio and television statements and N2 million for offenders of false phone text messages or messages on Facebook, twitter, Instagram, or WhatsApp. “Where any person in order to circumvent this law makes any allegation and or publish any statement, petition in any paper, radio, or any medium of whatever description, with malicious intent to discredit or set the public against any person or group of persons, institutions of government, he shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment term of two years or a fine of N4,000,000.00”,the bill specified. On the social media, the bill read: “Where any person through text message, tweets, WhatsApp or through any social media post any abusive statement knowing same to be false with intent to set the public against any person and group of persons, an institution of government or such other bodies established by law shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment for two years or a fine of N2,000,000.00 or both fine and imprisonment.” The bill said it shall be an offence for any petition to be submitted without a sworn affidavit from the law court. “Not withstanding anything contained in any law, it shall be an unlawful to submit any petition, statement intended to report the conduct of any person for the purpose of an investigation, inquiry and or inquest without a duly sworn affidavit in the High Court of a state or the Federal High Court confirming the content to be true and correct and in accordance with the Oaths Act. “Any petition and or complains not accompanied by a sworn affidavit shall be incompetent and shall not be used by any government institution, agency or bodies established by any law for the time being enforced in Nigeria. “Any person who unlawfully uses, publish or cause to be published any petition, complaint not supported by a dully sworn affidavit shall be deemed to have committed an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment for six months without an option of fine. “Any person who acts, uses, or cause to be used any petition or complaints not accompanied by dully sworn affidavit shall be deemed to have committed an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment for a term of two years or a fine of N200,000.00 or both, “the petition read. Senator Na’Allah, in his lead debate, during the plenary, where he sought support for accelerated consideration of the bill, said: “Our past has portrayed us as a society where by mere expedience of writing a frivolous petition against public officials, you can have their right abused by taking certain measures that practically took away their right of presumptions of innocence only to be found later that the petition, as strong as it appears, on the paper actually lacks merit.” “This sometimes, lead to a lot of innocent and most times honest civil servants being taken away from the public service only to be replaced by the dishonest ones, which invariably lead to the draining of the public service of civil servants with the desired integrity to move this country forward simply on grounds of principles. “As a nation with strong desire to move forward, this negative trend must be reversed, if only the desired objectives of the country,” he stressed. He added: “the bill which appears ‘sunset’ in its nature consists of four sections which in clear terms spelt out the punishment for frivolous petition, and what constitutes frivolous petition. “The bill seeks to provide punishment for frivolous petitions by making sure that only credible and. Verifiable petitions are presented for public use. “The utility of the bill is to equally save the time for good governance and resources that go into investigating frivolus petitions. The bill would equally assist in shaping our negative thinking by elevating hard work over and above sychophancy and indolence,”he further explained. “The question to ask is, whether having passed the Freedom of Information Act which gives unfettered access by the public information from government offices they would be right for this government to continue to waste valuable time and resources in investigating frivolous petitions from the same public and I am sure you would find no difficulty in saying no to the ugly situation,”he stressed, while soliciting support for its consideration. |
When next his Excellency Bashorun Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose (JP) rushes out to defend Dasuki's $2 billion and Dokpesi's N2 billion share of it, the mathematicians among us should render a public service by breaking down the heist into a language that the Governor can understand. You have to translate the figures involved into his instruments of governance. In other words, how many kilos of ponmo, shawa fish, atarodo, palm oil, ajinomoto, la casera, zobo, salt, and rice can $2 billion supply to the bellies of Ekiti? If you break it down for His Excellency like that, he will scream:"Ori iya mi o"! |
OK. So you’re just out of a relationship and you’re fresh in the dating market. You’re thinking of hooking up with a beautiful young woman irrespective of where or how you meet her. It could be at the bar, a red light district or even the club. All you’re concerned about is the fact that she’s single and you should make that move simply because she’s a potential fling or girlfriend in the making. Even though she seems to be a good catch, you may want to watch some subtle signs she may be giving off that may be an indication of the negativity she would bring, if you ever considered dating her. As a result, here are five types of women you should do all you can to avoid (at least till you get to know them well enough) when you’re on the lookout for a woman to date. 1. The One That Dislikes What She Does A lot of women are around who don’t give a hoot what happens to their jobs or careers simply because they would rather not work but get someone who would shoulder all their responsibilities. It is important for you to deduce if she’s on to you for different reasons that have nothing to do with the real you such as your account balance. You can ask her about her career and be on the lookout for how passionate she answers your inquiry. If she’s also driven to leave her present job for something bigger, then that’s a good sign. If she’s however the type that isn’t too keen about what she does and jumps around from one job to the other or repeatedly tells you she dislikes work, she may be out for the money. Women that are like this mostly do not appreciate how generous you may be on the long run which has a negative effect on whatever kind of relationship you plan to have with her. 2. The One That’s Always Stuck With Her Phone Someone that’s attached to their phones are problematic in that they have a need to constantly stay in contact with people perhaps as a means of feeling secured. They may not necessarily be chatting with their friends or acquaintances but they feel a compulsion to check their phone for details. Dependency on social media through their smart phones would present a problem as time goes on if you end up dating them. 3. A Lady That Just Came Out Of A Broken Relationship There are a lot of reasons why these type of women should not be atop your list of potential dates. Though they are very attractive, passionate and wild, chances are they would break your heart. A woman that just got out of a relationship is doing all she can to avoid any new pain. They usually want to be around people and will connect with anyone around them that would make them feel better. Such women would easily jump into any relationship that comes their way which increases the chances of you getting hurt if you ever get attached to them. 4. The Lady Seated Alone Downing Drinks In The Bar A lot of men are attracted to women that can hold their own and do typically the kind of things men do on a regular. It is however important you avoid throwing caution to the wind as she may just be at the bar to blow off steam after a bad day or worse still a breakup. More so, she may be the type that gets emotional after one too many drinks and the fun night you might have been on the lookout for could turn into a night of tears and petting. 5. The One That Blames The World For Everything That’s Wrong With Her Rolling with a pessimistic woman is something you don’t want to do especially one that never sees her fault in things. Such people are basically incapable of accepting responsibility for their actions and would rather blame everyone and everything for whatever wrong befalls them. They would never change any of their problematic attitude because they never see anything wrong in their actions. If you find her constantly talking about how everyone messes up but her, you may want to reconsider going ahead with a relationship. Source: http://ecruzi.com/5-types-women-never-consider-dating/ |

modath:Bello is not reaping where he did not sow. He contested in the APC primaries and Audu only edged him out with marginal votes. Intact most APC members preferred Bello but were parcified by the fact that APC need a big wig like Audu to displace Captain Wada. Guess Audu have done that work and have moved on, now is time for the real choice of the people to be governor and not disappoint. #PrayForKogi |
