BusinessNigerian Lawyer Sues Access Bank For Failed ATM Transaction, Demands N100m by GODWIN90(op): 3:16pm On Jun 01, 2017
My name is Godwin.
Pls I want to share this. Let's all see this issues as we may all experience it during our ATM transactions. Is mr musa action taking access bank for failed N40,000 ATM transactions really worth going to court?

Here is the stories of what happens.

Mr Musa Baba-Panya, an Abuja-based Legal Practitioner has instituted a suit in the FCT High Court against Access Bank Plc claiming N100 million for alleged defamation of his character.

Mr Chidi Ifeonye, the counsel to the plaintiff, who filed the suit on May 26, made the process available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

The plaintiff had instituted the suit as a result of the bank’s failure to reverse the N40, 000 he claimed was debited from his Diamond bank account while using the defendant’s ATM facility on March 11.

The plaintiff had described N100 million claims as general, aggravated and punitive damages for the defamation.

Baba-Panya said that the defendant’s alleged recalcitrant attitude caused him grave embarrassment, hardship and trauma.

“After a considerable waiting, no response of any sort came forth from the defendant, till date, thus was left with no option than to institute this action,’’ he said.

The plaintiff averred that the money in debt was meant to execute a printing project at the ECWA Church, Maitama on that fateful day.

“The development was most unpleasant to both the printer and I. It especially put me in unwarranted ridicule and scrutiny among the Church folks,’’ he said.

The plaintiff is seeking a declaration finding the defendant liable for the defamation of his character via its negligent conduct against him.

The plaintiff is also urging the court to compel the bank to write a letter of apology copying the Customer Relation Manager platforms of the CBN-interbank system.

He also prayed for apology letter to be forwarded to the Customer Relation Manager of Diamond Bank Plc and to the ECWA Church, Maitama, Abuja.

Baba-Panya was also seeking the award of N40, 000 being the alleged liquidated money in debt.

He also sought an interest award at inter-bank rate on the money debt effective March 11, until final judgment.

The plaintiff further asked for award of 10 per cent interest on the final judgment sum until final liquidation.

He urged the court to grant him an award of N500, 000 as cost of legal cost, including solicitor’s fees.

The matter has however not been slated for hearing.

EducationWhat JAMB 8-keys Device Represent by GODWIN90(op): 5:39pm On Apr 29, 2017
The 2nd Mock Exam to test how prepared JAMB is for the coming 2017 UTME, which starts from 13th May, held today. So much experience and skills has been gathered to ease the smooth writing of the main exams.

Though the Mock exam is designed to test JAMB's Exam Systems, it's also an opportunity for JAMB candidates to have first hand knowledge of the new technologies put in place for the 2017 UTME.

For those that wrote the mock exams today, its a better experience they have gained. But then others who failed to register for the mock but still wish to know what the Eight-keys represent, this post is for you.

What does the Eight button keys represent?

The JAMB eight button keys are A, B, C, D, P, N, S, R. All of these keys perform different functions.

Button A: This key represent option A. Candidates are to press button 'A' only if their choice of answer to the question is in option A. Otherwise, choose other option

Button B: represent option B. It means your choice of answer is option B.

Button C: Choice of answer is option C

Button D: Choice of answer is option D

Button P: This key represent 'Previous'. Candidates are to press this button only when they want to go back to the questions they either left unanswered or want to make changes to previous question. For example, question 1 was like confusing and candidate omit and go quickly to the next question 2. on this case candidates can still go back to question 1 if time permit to pick the correct option. Here is candidate is right to press button 'P'.

Button N: This represent 'Next'. Candidate press this button when they want to go to the next question.

Button S: This represent 'Submit'. candidates are to press this option only when they have completely answer all the questions given. Also check to see that all personal details especially choice of subject correspond to what your course of study demands. Please press button 'S' to submit all your answers. Please if you check and see that your time is almost out, please press button 'S' to submit.

Button R: This key represent 'Reverse'. Candidate press this button only when they do not want to go further to submit again.

This new method will eradicate the challenge of low computer literacy and phobia for mouse by some candidates. For those that are computer literate, this is an added advantage but will not make you score above point if you are not prepared mentally.

On the new arrangements for the visually impaired candidates, the JAMB
Registrar said Digital Bridge Institute in partnership with the board
has agreed to set up three dedicated centres in Abuja, Lagos and Kano in
2018.

But for the 2017 UTME, board has reached an understanding with the
association for the blind persons in Nigeria and blind students in Lagos
that an abridged approach would be used for the 2017 UTME, whereby all
prospective blind candidates would be invited to three centres in the
country for special assessment in their subjects of choice and relevance

PoliticsJONATHAN: Again, Court Orders Temporary Forfeiture Of $5.8m by GODWIN90(op): 5:19am On Apr 27, 2017
Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of a Federal High Court Lagos has ordered an interim forfeiture of $5.8 million belonging to a former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, to the Federal Government.

The fund was domiciled in Skye Bank account of the wife of ex-President.

The order was sequel to the granting of an exparte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking the temporary forfeiture of the money pending the determination of its motion on notice.

In September 2016 the court had earlier issued similar order against Mrs Jonathan but later unfroze the account on April 6 .

Moving the ex parte application on yesterday, counsel to the EFCC Mr Rotimi Oyedepo urged the court to grant the order as prayed. Justice Olatoregun granted the order as prayed.

In the ex-parte application titled, “Action in Rem”, the anti-graft agency is seeking an interim order directing interim forfeiture of the said um of 5.8 million dollars found by the EFCC in Mrs. Jonathan Skye Bank account.

The commission also seeks an order directing the interim forfeiture of the sum of N2.4 billion discovered in an Ecobank account in the name of La wari Furniture and Bath Ltd, which sum is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The commission had also seeks an order, directing the publication in any national newspaper, of the said order, to enable any interested party to appear and show cause why the interim order should not be made final.

In an affidavit in support of the application deposed to by one Musbahu Abubakar, the commission averred that it received an intelligence report that funds suspected to be proceeds of crime were warehoused in a Skye bank account that was opened on February 7, 2013, in the name of Patience Jonathan.

EFCC further disclosed that the said report was analysed and found worthy of investigation.According to the antigraft agency, several cash deposits were made by the former first lady in United States dollars, through one Waripamo Dudafa, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The commission averred that another frequent depositor of funds into the said account was one Festus Iyoha, who it said was a steward of the State House Abuja.

The EFCC said that between February 8, 2013 and January 30, 2015, the sum of about $6.7 million, suspected to be proceeds of crime, was deposited into the account. It accused Mrs. Jonathan of dissipating the funds, leaving a balance of about $5.7 million.

According to the commission Jonathan had dissipated the funds, leaving a balance of about 5.7 million dollars. The commission therefor said that if the funds are not forfeited in the interim, it may be fully dissipated by Jonathan.

Justice Olatoregun adjourned the case till May 15, to enable any interested party to appear and show cause why the court should not make the forfeiture order permanent.

Declaring the results in Abakaliki, the Chairman of the state Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), Chief Jossy Eze said seven political parties participated in the election which he said was peaceful. He listed the political parties to include ADC, APA, APC, MPPP, PDP, SDP and UPP.

He said in Abakaliki Local Government Area, APC chairmanship candidate got 820 votes while PDP candidate secured 65, 036 votes. For Afikpo North Local Government Area, APC candidate got 512 votes while PDP candidate secured 55, 808 votes. In Afikpo South Local Government, APC candidate got 33 votes while PDP candidate polled 50,894 votes. APC secured 608 votes in Ebonyi Local Government Area while PDP got 54, 527 votes. APC got 209 votes in Ezza North Local Government while PDP polled 58, 423 votes.

The EBSIEC chairman noted that APC got 381 votes in Ezza South Local Government area while PDP secured 50, 576 votes. In Ikwo Local Government Area, APC got 756 votes while PDP polled 77, 132 votes. APC got 375 votes in Ishielu Local Government Area while PDP secured 68, 263 votes, while in Ivo Local Government APC got 439 votes and PDP polled 28, 787 votes.

In Izzi Local Government Area, APC secured 728 votes while PDP got 84,088 votes.

According to the electoral commission boss, APC polled 1, 189 votes while PDP secured 76, 428 votes in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

APC candidate got 95 votes in Ohaozara Local Government Area while PDP secured 55, 637 votes.

According to him, APC secured 385 votes in Onichal Local Government while PDP polled 59, 698 votes.

Meanwhile, the candidate of APC for Kpirikpiri ward 3, Nnaemeka Obiegbunam shortly after the results were announced, stormed EBSIEC headquarters along Onwe Road Abakaliki with his supporters to protest the result of the ward.

He noted that he won the election convincingly and should be declared the winner. But chairman of PDP in the state, Onyekachi Nwebonyi said his party deserved victory in all the local governments and wards as according to him, it worked hard for the poll and also mobilised its members.

However, APC has vowed to take over the seat of power in Anambra State after the November governorship election.

The party’s National Vice Chairman in charge of South East, Chief Emma Eneukwu, made the declaration at a meeting of South East leaders of APC hosted by Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, at his country home in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. He said Anambra election was one in which the party must show the nation that Igbo people were fully prepared to play the mainstream politics expected of them in the country.

He said the party, in its efforts to actualise this goal, has set up a seven-member election planning and strategy committee, with a former governor of old Anambra State, Dr. Jim Nwobodo, as chairman while the former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, would serve as vice chairman.

Other members include Senator Emma Agboti from Enugu State, who would serve as secretary, while Senator Ifeanyi Ararume (Imo), Senator Nkechi Nwogu (Abia), Chief Maduba Cosmas (Imo) and Chief Gbazueagu N. Gbazueagu (Enugu) are members.

According to the zonal vice chairman, the terms of reference of the committee are to monitor the political environment in Anambra State as regards the 2017 governorship election and report to the zone. Evaluate the aspirants and advise the zone on how best to achieve crisis-free primaries and to advise the zone on best ways and means of raising resources for the election.

While describing Anambra State as the South East industrial and business hub, Eneukwu said every right-thinking Igbo person strongly believes that the state could not play the leading role required of it to open up the South East economy from the opposition.

He regretted that notwithstanding the alliance the present administration in the state formed with the Federal Government in the past, Anambra State failed to actualise the needed economic revolution in the South East geo-political zone because the alliance was flawed.

“The time to take over Anambra is now. The Federal Government is our own. It is of APC; the Minister (Ngige) is our own and so the governor, come this 2017 election, must be our own for the needed economic revolution to begin to free us economically and otherwise.

“We must utilise this golden opportunity to salvage our zone and our people must be told of this imperative truth.”

Eneukwu said he had it on good authority that the incumbent government in the state was sponsoring some of its cronies to APC, claiming they were governorship aspirants under our party.

He maintained that the sole aim of the cronies wearing the toga of governorship aspirant was to create discord, distrust and disaffection within APC adding that the party has set up a powerful team to uncover the plan and checkmate their activities.

“We have set up a very powerful team to uncover this plan and checkmate their activities. Our members are therefore, warned to be careful of dubious characters claiming to be aspirants in the party.

“We have guidelines and until they are announced, and any interested member meets the requirements of the guidelines, one is not an aspirant.

“I heard one announced his aspiration over the social media, and some days ago, claimed he had joined forces with the incumbent governor. I want them to know that we understand their primary school tactics,” he stated.
