Years ago, married gospel musician, Lanre Teriba, popularly known as Atorise, impregnated another woman.

In a recent interview with The Sun, the musician was asked about an event that made him cry, he said: “I cried when I lost my mum. Another event was when I had a child out of wedlock. The reason why I felt bad about it was that some people were using it against me. I regret it as well. Certain things happen in your life that are beyond you. I am human.

But I don’t know why some people think I should kill myself because of that singular mistake. Some Nigerians will see one mistake and magnify it. When I read stuffs about me on the Internet, I feel so bad and I wonder why people are doing that to me. But I have some wonderful fans that encourage me. And I thank God for my wife for being a great encouragement.

My wife knew about it, she really appreciated God that the marriage did not break. Today, the two of us are husband and wife. I have prayed to God for forgiveness. My wife has also forgiven me. So, those who still use it against me are haters.”

The De­fence Minister, Air Marshal Mon­sur Dan-Ali and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abuba­kar, yesterday night departed for Russia to purchase vital military hardware needed to sustain the tempo of aggression against the terrorists.

The duo left for Moscow to inspect the war planes ordered by Nigeria in order to give the Boko Haram el­ements a final putsch and ensure they never harassed any commu­nity once such an area is cleared .
Specifically, the top brass offi­cials left Abuja to purchase two Mi-35 Attack Helicopters and 10 Mushak Super Trainers from Russia.
According to the source, which pleaded for anonymity, “this is towards the commencement of re-equipping of the Nigerian military. This time, government wants to ensure that Boko Haram insurgents never return to any community once they are flushed out.
“The military will utilise these war planes to carry out recon­naissance missions and rescue operations and also provide need­ed aerial support to our troops. What happened in the last dis­pensation is gradually being sur­mounted.
“Because of the current successes recorded against Boko Haram, they have not just been degraded but the morale of the officers and men fighting in the war theatre is very high”.
Nigeria suffered severe interna­tional military blockade since the insurgents began their debilitating activities leading to the take-over of more than 12 local government ar­eas in the North-East geo-political zone.
Also, efforts made by the military authorities during the President Goodluck Jonathan administration to purchase needed ammunition were frustrated, leading to sourc­ing of arms from the black mar­ket and the consequent embar­rassment to the country.

1. As part of the promise of the Theatre Command to keep the public informed of our activities, this Press Conference has been organised to brief on the activities of the troops in the past few days. Accordingly, in furtherance of the ongoing offensive operations to clear Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) in the Northeast, on 17 January troops conducted a clearance operation at Shentimari general area and cleared Boko Haram enclaves and recovered 78 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

2. Similarly, on 18 January at Chukun Gudu, troops encountered and destroyed terrorist’s camps along Jillam, Bula Butube general areas. During the exchange of fire, 10 terrorists were killed, 2 AK47 Rifles, 2 AK47 magazines, 2 solar panels and 2 GSM handsets were recovered, while 1 Isuzu vehicle was destroyed.

3. On 20 January 2016, troops cleared terrorist camps/enclaves at Ngwalimiri and Gazama in Damboa Local Government Area. While conducting operations in Mufurundi village along Damboa-Bale road, our gallant troops intercepted 10 Boko Haram suspects from Bego, Mesemarri and Bale villages carrying bags containing food condiments, soaps, and other items. Suspects are presently undergoing interrogation. Also, troops had an encounter with terrorists during advance from Wajirok to Ajigin. During the encounter, 3 of the terrorists were killed.

4. In another development, one of our units located in old Marte repelled an attacked by BHT and in the process, killed 21 terrorists, while 3 soldiers were wounded during the encounter. One Anti Aircraft Gun, 10 AK47 rifles,1 FN rifle,7 x 60mm mortar bombs, 342 rounds of 12.7mm, 507 rounds of 7.62mm ammunitions, 1 Toyota Hilux, 1 Land Cruiser vehicle, 1 Improvised Explosive Device with charger were captured from the terrorists.

5. In a related development, troops took custody of 3 suspected Boko Haram terrirists who voluntarily surrendered themselves to Damboa Vigilante Group at Kaya village. During interrogation, they claimed to have been forced to join the Boko Haram terrorists group and also participated in the Group’s previous attacks at Askira and other locations. As about 1719hrs yesterday, 21 January 2016, ahead of Cashew Plantation near Maiduguri, an unknown civilian tried to gain access into the village but was confronted by a civilian JTF. In the process of the ensuing interrogation, he stabbed a member of civilian JTF to death but was shot by another Civilian JTF.

6. In continuation of the ongoing operation, troops advancing to clear Dure village, came under Boko Haram terrorists ambush at Rugga Fulani but were cleared. During the encounter, 8 Boko Haram terrorists were killed, 2 AK47 rifles, 2 locally made Dane Guns, 3 AK47 Magazined with 38 rounds of ammunition were recovered. Similarly, a unit of troops cleared Boko Haram terrorists hideouts in Wala, Tirkopytir, and Durubajuwe villages. During the operation, troops recovered 1 rusty General Purpose Machine Gun barrel, 1 grinding machine and 1 locally made Dane gun.

7. Equally, troops conducted a fighting patrol in Afe, Kudiye, Souma, Dika, Mijigeta and Mida. During the operation, the team made contact with BHT at Kudiye, Mijigete and 20 BHT were killed, while 3 rifles, 41 motorcycles were destroyed, and 370 hostages rescued and brought to Internally Displaced Persons’ camp at Dikwa. Also, around Huyum, Jeje and Diba villages. The terrorists sighting own troops, abandoned their families behind which include 5 women, 12 children. However, own troops killed 4 of the BHTs. The women are currently undergoing interrogation.

8. Today 3 suicide bombers attempted to infiltrate into Maiduguri a kilometer ahead of Mafa roadblock. Gallant troop of the theater shot one dead, while the other detonated and in the process killed the third suicide bomber.

9. The Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Major General Hassan Umaru commended the efforts of the troops and renewed call for the troops and the public to be more vigilant and security conscious at all times, particularly at check points, markets, worship centres, motor parks and schools. He equally appreciated the support from the public in rendering useful information on the activities of the terrorists. The public would be kept informed of the situation as the need arises.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the plunge in oil prices has some advantages for Nigeria because the country will no longer have to subsidise fuel.
Speaking at a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, January 21, Osinbajo noted that the decline in oil price “means that we are not paying any subsidies, which frees up something in the order of about $5bn (about N985bn), according to Bloomberg.
Reuters reported that US oil prices crashed below $27 dollars a barrel on Wednesday, January 19 for the first time since 2003, caught in a broad slump across world financial markets with traders also worried that the crude supply glut could last longer.

The crash in oil prices keeps getting worse, heightening concerns about the health of the world economy, particularly those like Nigeria whose budget are heavily depended on oil price.

But Osinbajo has explained that “with adequate governance around budget management and around expenditure management, we can do quite a bit. If we are able to do those things, we might be able to come away with under $30 a barrel oil”.

“Low oil prices have freed up $15 Billion in subsidy costs for Nigeria. This is a plus for us, “ he added.

On the Boko Haram insurgency, he said the “real existential threat of Boko Haram no longer exists but there are pockets of suicide bombings”.

Meanwhile, Senator Ben Bruce has lamented over Nigeria’s continuous decline in economic growth, hinting of the trouble that might befall the country if something is not done urgently.

The socio-media savvy senator who is representing Bayelsa East constituency in the National Assembly, took to twitter and highlighted very pressing issues affecting the Nigerian economy. He raised questions regarding the Nigeria oil industry and the sustainability of the Nigerian people.

A young woman saved herself from a gang of rapists after biting an attacker’s penis in Amiens, northern France.

The victim, in her thirties, was reportedly attacked by two men in a small flat on Olympe-de-Gouge road, where one of them lives. But instead of panicking the woman managed to sink her teeth into the would-be rapist’s penis, leaving him in blood.
In response, one of the enraged attackers hit the woman, hard enough to leave her in hospital in a “serious condition”. She later filed a complaint with police. A 22-year-old man has been charged with rape, while his 31-year-old friend, who was watching the attack, faces charges of complicity.
Police is searching for the third suspected rapist who remains at large. According to local media reports, the incident took place on Saturday, January 16, and the trio were allegedly drunk at the time of the attack.
This is not the first time women use their teeth to defend their dignity. Several months ago Nigerian lady had bitten off the man’s penis in self defense. He was rushed to the hospital but forgot a part of his penis at home.

Several high-profile Nigerians are facing charges as part of a drive against corruption but there are concerns the government is settling old political scores and flouting due process.

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to recoup what he said were “mind-boggling” sums of public money stolen under previous administrations to fulfil a campaign pledge to end graft.

This week, the government claimed just 55 people stole more than $6 billion between 2006 and 2013, leaving Nigeria in the lurch as its economy struggles due to the global oil price slump.
But it is former national security advisor Sambo Dasuki who has become the key figure in the anti-corruption campaign.
The former army colonel is accused of looting billions of dollars that were aimed at buying weapons and equipment for troops fighting Boko Haram Islamists.
Cash is alleged to have been diverted instead to members of former president Goodluck Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to fund his failed re-election campaign.
Dasuki was granted bail last month but has been kept in custody without access to his legal counsel as he awaits the start of three trials, his lawyer Joseph Daudu told a court in Abuja on Wednesday.
Dauda said the detention was a “brazen affront” to the judiciary and the judge agreed.
“I don’t see how I can be conducting a criminal trial without the presence of the accused person,” said judge Adeniyi Ademola. “You can set a dangerous precedent as it is.”

Dauda later claimed Buhari was reverting to his old autocratic habits from his days as military ruler in the 1980s.
“He (Buhari) emphasised he was a changed man, open to democratic principals. But interfering with the court system, trying to find your own rule of law, is not good,” he told AFP at his office.
“It makes the outcome suspect.”
Prosecutor Oladipo Okpeseyi, however, denied any impropriety. “The federal government has obeyed every order made in respect of this case. We are not acting illegally in any way whatsoever,” he said.
But Buhari’s own comments about Dasuki and two other cases involving the pro-Biafra activist Nnamdi Kanu and the Shiite Muslim leader Ibrahim Zakzaky have rung alarm bells.
He told reporters in December the men should be kept in custody because they had committed “atrocities” against the government — despite none of them having been tried and convicted.
Kanu was arrested in October. He was granted bail in December but remains in secret police custody, pending a trial on “treasonable felony” charges.

Zakzaky was detained after a military raid on the headquarters of his Islamic Movement of Nigeria that it is claimed left hundreds dead. It is not clear whether he has been charged with any offence.
- ‘Nothing to fear’? -
Buhari was voted into power in 2015 after vowing to stamp out corruption and usher in a new democratic era free from bitter partisanship.
He won over sceptics by preaching forgiveness and pledged an impartial war on graft in the interest of political harmony.
“President Jonathan has nothing to fear from me,” Buhari said in his acceptance speech last April. “Let’s put the past behind us, especially the recent past.”
But with the prosecution of Dasuki — a powerful member of Jonathan’s administration — the former head of state could yet be dragged into the case.
