It’s becoming a serious problem in the East. The First Ladies in these states need to start campaigning seriously against this wickedness towards maids. An average Igbo woman is very mean to their maids and young relatives. My mum is a good example. I heard she drove her niece from our house just because she doesn’t wash dishes clean. My mum now lives with me and initially she wanted to start that rubbish with my son but she got the memo real fast that any attempt to do that, I won’t hesitate to arrest her in the US. SE women and maltreating of housemaids are like 5 and 6, especially nursing mothers among them. A ten year old girl as housemaid If you cant raise a child, don't bother bringing him or her into this world. Poor people can never make rationale decision. They keep procreating, thinking that fortune will smile on any of their children, through which they may be lifted out of poverty. They fail to understand that if you fail to put a child on the path of success, success will not come. That house girl may NOT have been eating properly and she may be lacking in sufficient nutrition for a child of her age. Reason why she cave in to the beating, as her body's immune system was already weak and could NOT withstand trauma. So pathetic!!

They should arrest the husband of the woman join for negligence. The action of most men these days baffles me. It is not that the man is not aware that the wife has been maltreating that poor girl but he rather chose to maintain silence. He should be sued for negligence, as he has a duty of care on the poor innocent girl. I made it point of duty that all the people that comes to my house to stay as nanny, house girl or boy will address me as "daddy" and my wife as "mummy". That places an obligation on both of us as "daddy" and "mummy" to them, even though they are not our biological children. For me, it is symbolic as it would be against normal norm and custom to harm anyone that calls me a "father" or "daddy". That was one of my take aways from the respected novel, "Things fall apart", where "Ikemefuna", the boy that was sold as slave referred to "Okonkwo", his master as a "father" and was well protected by "Okonkwo" , who took him as his son, till the gods thought otherwise
